I can recall CP's Minneapolis dispatch contact the road crew of slow orders going in either direction from this milepost to this # milepost some were 20 to 25mph perticuallary between Nescopeck & Catawissa quite often. Miss the talking draggers stating axel count & air temperature especially at Mifflinville talk 📦!!

ALL of those trains from BUFFALO, south and northbound, were re-routed over there to the Sunbury Line (actually D&H) once NS purchased the majority stock to gain control of that line a few years back. ALL of those trains (with verbatim cars and loads as you video) came and went through Renovo, PA and on up the Low Grade to reach Buffalo-Enola connections (the shorter route thru Renovo-Emporium). Nowadays the trains that used to stop-re crew at Renovo, are doing the same at Binghamton NY instead Renovo. A lot of forces at work (behind the scenes) effecting all of these train moves, not the least of which is stockholder smoke and mirrors to make it look more appealing to explain the purchase of that line? Love the videos either way!

yeah I grew up in Renovo I remember seeing trains All the time come through town I lived Right next to the tracks they would stop on occasion to switch crews bc the one engineer Lived right there too he would come or I his house and jump on the train when it was still Conrail and then a Lot of times too the train would stop in town at Sockys restaurant and grab a snack and a drink get back on the train and keep rolling
@rickprobst5757
@rickprobst5757 6 лет назад
it's sad to see no trains going through Renovo anybody Except Maybe once a month and that's Only bc they are servicing the factories in Emporium from the Lock Haven yard

OMG! The confusing train id's between CP now NS operations would be enough to make any railfan spin!! The good thing about all this train traffic coming from 🇨🇦 & new england is that the rails r goin to be shiny for the time being from Scranton to Sunbury. Even NS rebuilt the line after the takeover track speeds r better when compared to CP's way of operations alot of slow orders were issued on their trains in either direction!

Also I was just wondering, are there any updates coming to this line? NS seems to be putting the new "Darth Vader" signals everywhere, and I noticed at Taylor Yard that tracks are jointed rather then welded. If traffic for Taylor increases, (as you predicted in your former videos) will they likely change the track from jointed to welded? And also, on the River Line they have been lengthening sidings for trains like Q409 which was 14,000 feet. Are they doing that to accommodate trains like the huge 11Z?
@Trains21
@Trains21 7 лет назад
I'll have to make it a point to do that!
@Trains21

Since NS bought the line they've made a lot of improvements to it and I witnessed the trains going by first hand.. The Herzog ballast trains, the welded rail trains and dozens upon dozens of gondola cars coming up on 11A filled with crossties.... Most of the work has been done on the "Freight Line" between Bingo and Albany, but work has been done on the Sunbury too. On the Freight Line numerous sidings and have been put back in along with tie replacement and resurfacing. On the Sunbury, some new welded rail has been laid (about 6 miles of it) and as I write this, M.P. 671 will be getting new tie plates (they've already been placed so I'm hoping that ties and rail will be part of the deal). NS posted all of this on their website, here's the link to the news release: www.nscorp.com/content/nscorp/en/news/norfolk-southernhighlightsinvestmentimprovedcustomerserviceonfir.html As far as the yard is concerned I can't really say what the future holds for it other than J.B. Hunt. NS says that traffic there had double-digit increases there since the buyout so that's a good sign. I was told by an employee that J.B. Hunt wants to bring in 4,000 feet of train a day (with their trailers on it) so we'll see if that actually happens. A JB Hunt driver from Chicago left a comment on the Ep. 2 video. Here's what he said: "I drive for JB Hunt out of Chicago and Taylor will be a new hub for the Northeast Corridor. Most containers would terminate at the Harrisburg, Pa hub or New Jersey to be delivered up there." Welded rail in the yard?... Maybe, but again, I can't say but the line itself is welded except for a few miles down by M.P. 680 (Hudson). I don't know of any sidings being lengthened but the one at Hanover that CP put in back about a decade or so ago is at least 11,000 ft. since it was the only one that could accommodate the 11Rs when they were that big.

One thing I forgot to mention.... At some point changes will come to the line.. If nothing else, PTC kicks in, in a few years and any line that runs passengers and/or hazmat will have to have the new compliant signals and such.... For now, I'm happy to have the searchlights and to me, the Sunbury Line comes about as close to "old school" style railroading as you can get in this day and age of today.

I saw in your text at the top of the video you sayinng something about salt do they haul salt by rail and if so what kind of a car would they use? Dave
@Trains21
@Trains21 7 лет назад
Yes, lots of salt is moved by rail and it moves in covered hoppers.

Why do NS consists have CP rail and CN rail box cars and hoppers in the mix?
@Trains21
@Trains21 7 лет назад
It's just the way that freight cars move.. You will typically see a larger portion of them up this way because of our close proximity to Canada.

Foreign power is common in railroading, there's several reasons why this may occur.. The most common is foreign power hours being repaid..
