The list of recallls and issues you found are not minor. They're major quality issues, imo. And the mileage you have is not as much yet. Wait till you have 50k or 100K even just like most of the Japanese cars that you don't see the same issues as what you have at 35k.

I don't know how deep Mr. Edmunds' pockets are...but a long term fleet of option for option 1/4 ton diesel pick ups from Ford, Chevy, and Ram would be interesting to me. Each offers one and I haven't seen any real apples to apples comparos over the long term for any of them.

Old ones are better. 5.7 on new have oil starvation for cams at idle. Design flaw. I had 2006, headers and air box made big difference. New probably wouldn't help because of new computers, would have to tune it. Still didn't like it. Only because the windshield design made me car sick.? Never had a problem with any other car or truck. Even driving, got better after time.

Your Tundra hasn't gone through ANY changes in years despite some exterior looks. Ram made a all new truck so a few minor issues are to be expected but there isn't anything serious in this video that would push people to go the other way. My dad just got one and he has no problems with it even with those minor issues that some of the trucks have had.

I purchased a 2019 1500 Rebel last September. I have just over 12k miles on it. I've pulled a 30 foot travel trailer from Chicago to the Great Smoky Mountains and back, done some off-roading and it's my daily driver. I have to say, it does all three exceptionally well. This is my first truck and I couldn't be happier with it.

sukhman marwah like any vehicle, you take care of it, it will last. I’ve had four cars in my 40 years of driving. I’ve gotten ten years and 150,000 miles out of all of them. And all were in excellent condition when I traded them in. Because I wash them once a week, detail them twice a year, change the oil every 5k miles, and other major fluids every 30k miles. With that I’ve never had a major repair on any of them.

After 30 years of owning Mopar products, I have learned that this is typical. I never had one (of the many, many I've owned) that went past 50k without recalls, warranty work (much of which there was), electrical issues (most of what I experienced) and general poor workmanship, fit and finish. Lots of disappointment. Why did I keep buying them??? They attracted me with price, warranty, incentives , and design. I also wanted to by AMERICAN, Unfortunately, NONE of that equated to quality and reliability. I have since quit wasting my hard earned money and have had to admit that Toyota is where I have to go to get what I want. I don't like it, but that is the brand that has been the most solid performer for me.

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn Ecodiesel with about 73,000 miles on it now. I have had to replace the steering rack and pinion, water pump, vacuum pump, brake master cylinder, ABS pump and the cruise control button cluster. The tires that came on it lasted about 10,000 miles then needed to be replaced. I will say this, the brake pads lasted for 70,000 miles, which I didn't expect, and just recently replaced them, along with the fuel filter. My biggest complaint is the lack of redundancy in the critical safety systems, such as the braking system. When my master cylinder failed, I had absolutely no braking power. When the rack and pinion gear box electric assist failed, it locked the steering wheel. In my opinion, these should be engineered better to handle failures in a default safe condition rather than a complete loss of functionality. Needless to say, after my lease is up, I will not buy another Mopar product.

So here's the thing - shade visors and door trim probably shouldn't fall off of a new, $55k vehicle. Possibly chalk that up to a first model year problem. I bought a last generation model in 2013 and was dreading the MOPAR chintzyness factor (childhood memories of bits and pieces falling off on mom's a mid-70s Cordoba) but overcame my anti-MOPAR bias and purchased it anyway. As with your truck lots of recalls and TSBs over my years of ownership, which I actually take as a positive. Just prior to that Daimler-Chrysler (which it was in 2013) had been fined in the US for NOT doing recalls that they should have done. They've pretty clearly toggled the other way as a result. There are still many carmakers who have issues for which the "ought" to do recalls or TSBs but don't to help the bottom line. As for reliability, the 2013 MY was in the middle of the very long 4th generation (still being sold as "Classic" along side the new 5th generation model you have), and has thankfully had many fewer gremlins and glitches than your new model experienced. The one truly irritating issue that has affected the 2013 truck since new is a flaky 8.4" headunit; it randomly reboots several times per long trip. It's been reflashed, inspected, updated, etc., but because the dealer service techs (3 different dealer service centers) can't reproduce it, I've had to live with it. Other than that the truck has been rock solid in reliability and capability on-road and off. Hopefully by year 3 of the new 5th generation version they'll have the QA/QC sorted out. The 5th Gen with a 3L turbo diesel, 33 gallon tank and 4WD has approximately 900 miles of range per tank. I don't consider 500 miles to be "good" for road tripping or offroading in a 4x4 pickup. My 2013 has the Hemi, 3.92 rear, 4WD, 20" wheels with D load rated LT tires (not the light weight p-metrics that are standard and are as you discovered also "nail magnets", and I typically get 450 miles per tank on pavement cross-country. It's really not enough. I like to go places with signs that say things like "next fuel 215 miles". Assuming the 5th Gen truck does overcome it's early teething pains, I will become a repeat buyer and replace the 2013 truck with a 2021 MY version with the diesel and a 3.21 rear end for range - oh and a standard length bed - the short bed is, well, too short for doing truck things. Parking in cities, of course, is NOT a truck thing.

I had a 2019 with the auto start/stop. While I think Ram is doing it right, I still hated the "feature". We had one issue with the truck in the 10 months I owned it, which was the driver's side mirror popping loose when you tried the power fold. I traded it for a 2020. Better deal. No auto start. While it was way more expensive, I am so much happier. And, yea, my 4wd 3.92 Ram 1500 is seeing averages in the mid 17's. And I wish mine had the 33 gallon tank. When I tow my boat its gets around 10mpg. But, hey... it will pull that boat as fast as i'm willing to feed it.

I have a 2016 1500 Hemi - 392 gears. Heres what will happen. You'll get the Hemi tick eventually - its due to the exhaust manifold bolts breaking. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if your fuel pump gives you problems. This will give you a check engine and you wont see and MDS (ECO Mode). I ended up paying for a new fuel pump and FCA took care of me on the tick problem ( told them this issue has been going on for a decade with their hemis, and they paid for it ) - even having 95,000 miles on the truck. Other than that, love my truck.
@sc12100
@sc12100 4 года назад
@BriceGarrett86 The only thing I can say is that they are using the same HEMI in the new body style. To me, that probably means that FCA hasn't fixed it - however I could also be wrong. The HEMI tick has been around for over ten years. I believe the reason I got my bolts replaced on their dime was due to the fact that I called them out over the phone and told them that they are well aware of this problem. They acknowledged that and paid for it. The Hemi tick is a legitimate design flaw and FCA should put out a recall.

Had a 2015 5.7 Hemi with the tick and thought it was the lifters from an oil flow design flaw. It went away after a few seconds on start up. I also heard it went away because the manifold and heads swell after they warm up and seal smaller leaks.

I had a 2014 1500 hemi 8 speed big horn this truck has the same drivetrain as the 2019/2020 let me start by saying it had a ton of tow power but I'll say this 80k miles on it was all problems water pump went out manifold bolts snap off in the head this is a known problem since the hemi came out and it still happens. service 4wd light would come on only when below 40 degrees. I will say the truck was well maintained serviced and washed also ceramic coated. The hood was aluminum it started to corrode where the pinch is in the front where it was rolled together. This caused the paint to bubble and push up. Dodge would not fix it. According to them it was not rotted through. So I'll say this I traded it in for a f150 I'll stick to ford I had a lariat prior to the ram no issues ever and sold it with 130k any truck will last to 35k miles not a long enough review

I own a 2012 I bought from a dealer in 2015 with 33k miles on it. Though its been useful it's also been the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned over 40 years and probably 30 cars. It now has 94k miles on it in January of 2022. Let's see...all four brake calipers seized at various times, ruining the rotors, calipers and pads. Wheel bearings ruined on 3 out of 4 wheels. Exhaust manifold cracked. Starter, alternator and water pump went at various times. Heater blower fan control went. My favorite? The entore top end of the engine had to be rebuilt due to a commonly known lifter problem- seizing and ruining the cam. Luckily the 6k repair was covered under the CPO warranty. This happened at only 66k miles btw. The truck was never used commercially nor never towed anything. Rear sliding window leaked. There's currently a water leak from under the driver's dashboard when it rains. Rust bubbles are appearing on the passenger front fender- also noted in forums as a common issue due to a sound absorbing mat behind the panel staying wet all the time. Today I see there are rust bubbles forming on the driver's rear wheel well arch. I'm sure there's many more issues I can't remember. For a "truck"- supposedly built "Ram Tough" and only having 94k miles it's had an incredible number of annoying, serious and potentially fatal repairs- none of which I ever experienced on any other car or truck I've owned. I'll never buy another Dodge/Ram product. Total pain in the ass and expensive to own. At last count it had incurred 15k in repairs over the 7 years I've owned it. I paid 33k for it btw in 2015. It also had god knows how many recalls along the way. Other than that, great truck.
