RItesh Lakhi is recalling the investigation and land mark probe conducted by renowned human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra who was kidnapped and killed by Punjab police in 1995 after his sensational and pathbreaking expose on fake encounters, extra judicial killings and disposal of dead bodies of youth in Punjab as unidentified and unclaimed.
Ritesh Lakhi recounts the circumstances leading upto a direct confrontation between Khalra and the then Punjab DGP KPS Gill and Tarantaran Police chief Ajit Singh Sandhu, both of whom ordered the illegal abduction and elimination of Khalra in the month of September 1995, a record which is duly established in the CBI investigation which followed later.
Ritesh Lakhi traces the journey of Jaswant Singh Khalra from a Student to a village Panchayat Secretary who rose to the occasion in the highly critical times of mass human rights violations in the Indian state of Punjab eversince assuming of charge by Beant Singh as the Chief Minister in 1992.
