Ronnie is a genius all round but Hendry's play was absolutely autonomous & methodical. I think people forget how good he really was. I would love to know how much further he could have went if his cue didn't get smashed to bits, or if he kept the same enthusiasm for the game
^ 'As if' 😨. Aye, still Smoke & Drink, but never near Jan Verhaas etc. They didn't mind ole Hurricane Higgins necking Gin though! Bless him.😳 @@leighhills1👏'S
@@leighhills1 I think hendry was a genius himself. People go on about Ronnie been a genius and he is. Hendry changed the game. Long red straight into the pack no safety at all went for every pot. Didn’t see miss a ball in the middle pocket for what seemed like years. The cue getting smashed killed him. Imagine him in his pomp with the amount of tournaments they have now
I love watching young Ronnie. Not nearly the smarter player that he is now but boy could he long pot and hit shots with amazing power and confidence back then. Astonishing.
The vibe and atmosphere of the big tournaments in the 90s was so much better somehow. You could even feel it to an extent watching on tv. I find tournaments now have so little atmosphere or special feeling to them. Part of it is the way the arenas are all so tacky, plastered all over with online gambling ads. At least the cigarette companies put some real effort into making the arenas more stylish and grand. They didn't have about 50 of their brand logos everywhere. I think also more young players were driving the game at the very top and putting some real personality into it. Audiences seemed to really ROAR more often and possibly the commentators didn't talk over everything quite so much and were more soft-spoken. All these things served to draw your focus into the battle and emotion of a good match far more and the top tournaments also just had a far more bespoke and special design and feel to them.
Because back on the days they allow audience to really enjoy and express themselves when watching snooker, now they almost force the audience to stay like they're in a funeral... That's why shoot out event is special, still get this old tournament vibes, when snooker wasn't so snob
And if you see an late 70's or 80's game, players also allowed to smoke and drinks alcohol while they're playing 😅. Somehow they're forgetting the origins of snooker, was invented to stay in that old English pubs and despite the controversy of the alcohol/, tobacco thing, the truth is that kind of the thing makes the game much more enjoyable to watch
Hendry was an absolute juggernaut. Nobody compares in my opinion, the way he dominated the game was just unmatched. Unfortunately before my time. I love that he still keeps his hand in now, and is still such a joy to watch/ listen to him in commentary
O'sullivan is the goat period. He's the best to ever pick up a cue and his longevity is astonishing. Hendry was good for 10 years, very good. O'sullivan has been good for 30 years and counting.
@@LCFCV9 at one point Hendry reach a level higher than what Ronnie ever did and thats what make him the GOAT.When Ronnie himself tell Hendry is the GOAT i think you should all listen to what the maestro is saying.
Was only a matter of time he's the greatest with 21 majors 39 ranking titles the most centuries and 147s keeping snooker relevant and on the front pages entertaining us for decades his longevity is legendary and will be his legacy and now going for 8 masters 🙄 and world number 1 at 47 🙏
Cant see that happening but truly hope Jimmy gets to the crucible for one last Hurrah. Even Hendry, if he was to practice enough he is capable of qualifying for the WC. He just doesn't want to suffer an embarrassing defeat all over again.
I am surprised you have not updated it he has been winning by 10-7 in his last 3 wins , and going for ,888 and triple crown in April , there seems to be something in the stars .his snooker has been unbelievable like in a higher level ,higher gear longer in matches
It makes you wonder why Ronnie O’Sullivan, with all his achievements and the fact that he made snooker what it is today, has not won Sports Personality of the Year
Ronnie is so much better now, his match play especially and his safety game is one of the best in the world since around 2000 when he started working with Ray Reardon. The main reason he is world number 1 again and still playing so good. You could see how bad Stephens safety game was in this and was always a big weakness especially later on in his career. You never fancied him to win any scrappy or tactical frame with all the hard match players. Is is beyond any doubt what so ever only to a blind and negative Scotsman that Ronnie is the GOAT, Stephen is still in my top three of favourite players behind Ronnie and Selby though. What Ronnie is achieving in snooker winning triple crowns in 4 decades and being world number 1 in them and nearly 50 years old. He really is a freak of sport in any capacity, the guy is up there with Pele Ronaldo, Messi, Federer Nadal, Schumacher Phil Taylor in darts.
@@josiewallace7968 The only good match player Hendry faced in a WC final was Doherty in the 97 final and he lost convincingly and was out played. Doherty is not half the player Selby is and would have gave Hendry nightmares trust me!
Quanta diferença o Ronnie quando mais jovem nem mirava direito e acertava kkkkkk é mesmo hj é o melhor jogador q eu vi ganhou técnica hj em dia ele busca a bola onde quer
Ronnie 0sullivan is in my opinion the greatest snooker player of all time. 0f course Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry were up there as professional sportsmen who were both determined to succeed on the greenbaize they are all members of an exclusive club.
@@fizzhogg23 titles doesnt mean better... Hendry is the greatest of all time then Ronnie who is the most accomplished then Davis who saved snooker and was the greatest ambassador for the sport.
@mikescorpio13 hendry was the GOAT in his prime, but you can't say Ronnie isn't the GOAT he is still at the top of his game at 48 and has surpassed or equaled all Hendrys records (maybe not all id have to fact check that) Higgins is playing better at 48 than hendry did in his late 30s If ronnie didn't suffer from mental health issues (watch his documentary), he would have 10+ world titles.
Ronnie is the Best as he has proved over and over again but when he over cut the blue then just got the Yellow barely and rushed the green, i thought this has missed and he did by a mile. SO FAST even for him, in the safety at the end too, he was just getting down and hardly feathering and BANG, balls going everywhere, Hendry is so careful and measured and that ending could have gone either way very easily...
It was all about these two in the 90s. Hendry was the disciplined master of the craft and O'Sullivan the eccentric natural genius, often his own worst enemy. The golden age of snooker imo.
Two of the greatest for sure, no one can deny that fact, but Ronnie has become the greatest with his records, loved Hunter, too bad he did not have a chance to prove his Greatness.
Great times. I loved Stephen very much, but sometimes thought he was a little bit slow player. Now what a pleasure to watch them both young and quite fast.
Surprising that he should beat Stephen Hendry and then lose to Steve Davis. Extraordinary that Steve Davis won the Masters more recently than Stephen Hendry. A travesty to seed Ronnie O'Sullivan 8 when he had been in the previous 2 finals, making these 2 meet in the quarter final. He should have been seeded 2.
A wonderful calm expression - from each player - when they've left a possible winning position for their opponent, as though they hadn't made a mistake but that the 'gods' had made it happen. Calm when many would feel shame, and an expression of peace when most of us would panic! THIS i s what the modern use of the word "tight" is about! John.
This was a true clash of the titans back in the day.Hendry was the man to beat for sure and ronnie was just getting into his stride...now hendry commentates on ronnies matches...how time changes things.
What good revenge for lose one year before! The people loves ronny much before he had a name the rocket. And still 30 years later when he started more support have today. I am started warch a snooker like 10 years ago when ronny came in Slovenija 🇸🇮my little country and play friendly matches. Before I never see the snooker only biliard. And now I Don, t miss when ronny play and all his matches, records.... I love this guy and respect! The best is for me when he destroy shelby! 🇸🇮💪😂
Revenge is way too strong. These are professional snooker players. They know full well that you win some and you lose some. Personal feelings rarely come into it unless you are a bit of a dick as some players can be from time to time.
Hendry will always be the best & the main reasons why I got into snooker like thousands of others yes Ronnie's great but it's Hendrys all attack that does it for me just look at his 1st shot no thought whatsoever of anything but the pot
When this Guy decides to put his cue away, can see snooker dying a little as the Rocket is why snooker is watchable, And can just picture it when Stephen Hendry also lost his World Title the first time as his face soon dropped, But got to be in it to win it as can't win them all, only the crowd,
@ebell kwontol He's admitted it himself that after his dad was jailed he just went out partying etc from1995 , foe five years. He was always good enough. He just needed to mentally grow up.
As it seems to be with all fields the current elite are there because they stand on the shoulders of giants. In tennis Nadal, Federer and Jockovich at their prime would beat Connors, McEnroe, Lendl, Sampras etc. at their prime but only because there was a Connors, McEnroe, Becker etc. before tham. Science is the same, and snooker greats of today would beat the Reardons, Alex Higgins, Steve Davis, and Hendry in their prime because those guys had their prime to push the sport forwards.
Peter ebdon was a master of the game in his day ,ronnie shit on him over and over again as he was more traditional and its a measure of the man thar ronnie is ,a genius but also a twunt.
Hendry had to much pride and that was his downfall. He refused to get help with his game in any form and ended up retiring too early. Player like ronnie looked for extra help throgh ray readon for example. Hendy felt as tho he was so good that no one could help him in any way.
Pride? Hendry actually said recently that he regrets getting as much help as he did because in the end he wasn't sure which coach to listen to when taking a shot. Higgins said it was strange that Hendry got coaches in when his game was natural and he never understood why he did. Hendry's downfall is likely because he was so dialled into snooker in the 90s over everything else and burned himself out. Ronnie obviously was very different and maybe we see that in his longevity.
I wouldn't say he got revenge more like a consolidation. A prime hendry was someone who imo ronnie just couldn't play against because of how much a animal he is.
13:36 After playing the EASY green, Ron deliberately raised the club rest in the air, waiting for the old referee to put it back.. . 14:17 definitely this old referee said something mean and nasty to Ron, making both players look so weird... . 🤣🤣😂
