Who's your favorite artist from Russia, if any?

Being labeled such a foreign agent by putin is a badge of honor.

More playlists, please! 😃 Most of us don't know anything about Russian non-classical music. I'd love to see a few regular videos about your own favorite artists, or the most popular ones, so we can share that part of Russian culture that is not just about war... Maybe videos presenting just one artist in one category and a few select songs of them. Maybe also a link where to purchase these songs or albums on an English web site, as I find that even when you know the name of an artist, it's often impossible to buy their albums if you're not fluent in Russian (and Cyrillic). I often find that many songs with good music also have meaningful lyrics, be it poetical, political or plain popular, and you can feel it even if you don't speak the language. Actually, songs were my top motivation as a teenager to learn a few foreign languages. My favorite genre is "text singers" as we call them in French, where the lyrics of the song doesn't just mean something powerful, but also elevates the language itself. The music itself can be anything from jazzy to rap, just a guitar or orchestral. I also like traditional folk songs, and I have listened to and loved a few in Russian, probably from around the 1960-80s, but I can't remember who. A great thing with folk is that big countries have several different regions with different cultures, even languages, and folk songs. But then I am ashamed, as I realize that asking for such an introduction to Russian music without doing the same with my own culture is greedy! Well, sloppy rather, as I don't have the peace of mind to take the time to do so when I have so many things going on at the moment...

Thanks, Niki, for saying the names of the artists slowly for those of us who don't speak Russian, or haven't heard of them before. NFKRZ speaks so fast that I wasn't able to get the names. Also, showing them written is a big help. Bravo to those brave artists who have spoken up. It's easy to imagine what you'd do in a similar situation, when you aren't immediately faced with it. Quite another when you are.

I have watched many of your videos, and this was easily the best and most educational one I've seen. I'm a huge Zemfira fan (drove from Las Vegas to Los Angeles just to see her in concert several years ago) and I know her stance on politics. I appreciate her sentiment, "I'm apolitical, but this war is wrong." Never heard of Noize MC before, but in watching this, I'm struck by the contrast between American pop stars, who pay lip service to political activism because it's the popular thing to do, and this guy, who risked so much for causes he believes in.

While not a favorite, it's rather an oddball singer named Vitas. He's Ukrainian but I first heard of him when I was visiting in Moscow one day. So strange, but fascinating in an odd way.

I personally dont get oto see people protesting or Russians (except my group of youtubers) speak out against the war and Putin. I guess i need to research more on this. Im so glad, sad and frightened for those people with the courage yo speak up inside of Russia. I assume they end up in jail at some point. I admire and appreciate their courage but worry what has happened and will happen to them. You were one of them speaking out in the beginning, im glad and sad you left. If you want to be safe you had no choice. I always think all of you that have left need to buy an island and start your own country. I dont like how some have discriminated against Russian refugees. This is wrong also and makes me angry. I wish there was a human rights lawyer who could work against thiese issues. My favorite Russian artists are Leonid & Friends and the incomparable Mariya Mashkova, who has spoken out against the war on RU-vid, while her father remains in Russian and is a vocal supporter of the war and of Putin. The beautiful actress is now living in exile in Los Angeles. You may enjoy her romantic comedy Poor Liz, which is viewable on RU-vid with English subtitles. I've watched it several times!
