In this video we will compare the real Mosasaurus to the larger than life Jurassic World rendition of the animal! The Mosasaurus was the mightiest ocean predator of it’s time, but how different is the real animal from Hollywood's take? Watch this animation to find out!

Hello everybody! First off, I've finally linked all of my sources, including the test footage from Fallen Kingdom I used for scaling the Jurassic World Mosasaurus. However, be mindful that some sources I used may not be accessible to the public, and I'm happy to clarify anything on my discord server. I would like to thank you all for the support and overall positive reception of the first full scale animation for the channel! It really means the world to me and I'm excited ti make more animated videos going forward. In terms of the subjects I would like to cover, and the reasoning behind the new channel name "Nature's Compendium," I would like to encompass a variety of subjects pertaining to the natural world and the history of life on earth. My main focus will be on the evolution of certain animals, marine biology, tropical rainforest ecology, and reconstructing lesser known prehistoric ecosystems like the Pisco formation. While "How Scientifically Accurate" is not going to be a focal point of the channel, I will continue to produce them alongside the main animation projects I hope to create. Lastly, while the general reception of this video has been very positive, I am still grateful and appreciative of all constructive criticism. One of the most frequently brought up points is how the audio balance with background music and sound effects was distracting and too loud in certain parts. I will be sure to address this in future videos and be more mindful when working on the SFX design. Again thank you all for watching and I hope you look forward to the future of the channel! The next animation video is going to be on Sperm Whales, so stay tuned! 🐳🐳🐳

The Mosasaurus in Jurassic World is twice as big as an IRL mosasaurus. My guess is that the reason the creators went with this feature was because if the Mosasaurus was accurately sized, it would not be able to drag the Indominus down into the aquarium.

True, but at least JW wasn't presented as a documentary, so it's more forgivable in that regard. Of course, that opening scene where Lio plucks the Eustreptospondylus from the edge is iconic, so... Give and take.

All of the animals in Jurassic World also were created with accelerated growth hormones so that they would be ready for exhibition faster, so perhaps the mosasaur's growth rate went far beyond what it was supposed to, thanks to the genetic amalgamation (or they gave it too many growth hormones to make it way bigger in order to impress guests, like you say).

The JW Mosasaurus does appear to be within the range of 60 to 70 feet in the first movie, it's just that in the sequel it inexplicably turned kaiju-size (likely due to lazy filmmaking not paying attention to continuity).
@1Morey
@1Morey 5 лет назад
I think it is more closer to roughly 84 feet in length, which is still massive. Forced perspective on some scenes does change how we perceive objects. ILM stated they made it larger than its fossil counterpart so it was big enough to take down the Indominus rex.

Superb animation work, my dude! And I like how the video is structured too. And to all the folks preparing to spam the "Jurassic World isn't mean to be accurate because they're not real dinosaurs" line, I will mention again that since they are using the real taxonomic names of the animals, they are not exempt from criticism. I'm not even touching on the fact that the "Genetically engineered" excuse is super vague and hand-wavy anyway.

Nice to see this series of videos again, and with Mosasaurus this time. I really love how designed the countershading on the creature, including the little marks between the top and bottom halves of the body.

1:23 I think you meant toxicoferans, not "toxiferans"? 1:40 You misspelled Aigialosaurus. 5:26 What are the five stats? 8:06 You misspelled pseudo. The lack of a forked tongue is another inaccuracy that could be considered major. Great video and production value! You've come a long way since the first PK update vid and JWFK Carnotaurus video! Looking forward to what you have in store for the future! :)
