I taught Korean Kung Fu in the US for 22 years, and you are 100% right. The forms we use look ugly, but they actually have practical application. I trained a couple of “shaolin” forms recently and was instantly able to see that the stuff I learned was ONLY for calisthenics and has nothing to do with actual fighting. Thank you for sharing this info, great video.

@@itsaboutgongfu I will add, it's a VERY hard fight. The circus acts look so convincing to people that don't know martial arts. Then they see our humble forms and think that what we are teaching isn't authentic. It's especially more difficult if you are not of Asian descent, people think you are a charlatan. Well, until they tie up with you and then they are on the floor LOL :) THANK YOU for sharing this information, we need more people pointing out the differences.

Very insightful! Today’s kung fu dance is originated by the regime who afraid that normal people learnt Kung Fu would be hard to suppress so they distract and distort the true idea of Kung Fu for the easiness to govern. That’s why you can see in those kung Fu dance you can see running in tai-chi performing😂. A little more gift to you, the original Shaolin kung fu is a martial art system based on Psychology.

I believe it was actually the 1940s when they separated fighting from kungfu and decided to emphasize forms. Prior to the 60s. The dissertation paper / book of Antonio Graceffo gives the exact quotes and references in “The Wrestler's Dissertation: Shanghai University of Sport PhD in Wushu, Chinese and Western Wrestling”

@@EliteBlackSash thank you so much sir... 🙏🤗❤️ I will certainly look into it... 1940s was a troublesome time in Chinese history... Monks indeed started street performances to earn a living on that time... Though I won't say they separated forms and fighting... That time they needed fighting skills even more...

Hello, can you make a list of names of those masters/instructors who appear in [5:40]? I know about and can recognize from a picture only two: Shi Dejian / Shi De Jian and Hu Zhengsheng / Hu Zheng Sheng. Could you maybe make a video where each master's name is under each photo? That would be very helpful and educative. If they have online websites, profiles, fanpages, channels, etc., could you also somehow let us know hot to find them and maybe learn from them? Thank you for all the interesting and worth thinking about content! Very helpful, useful and educative channel! I need to study more, because I only checked few of your videos, but it looks like you've done a lot of work and the topics are very important!

That was very informative.. This modification and simplification of the art is killing the true essence of Kung Fu.. It is due to this very fact that nowadays Kung Fu is seen more as a “dance” form than a martial art, even though Kung Fu is a 100% legit martial art.. These so called modern “masters” need to shut down their mcdojos because all they work for is money, and not the art
@itsaboutgongfu

@@blazingdragon9607 absolutely correct 🙏🤗❤️... I was in a lot of dilemma as I started my gōng fū journey with Shaolin quan fa... But watching people turning gōng fū into circus, was simply unacceptable... I decided to do something about it...

You see a lot of this in modern Karate, as well. Look at Kata performance competitions and ask yourself if you would use a single movement in their dances vs a person trying to hurt you. Then look at something by say, Tatsuhiko Asai and see the chasm of difference in presentation. Like most things, the buyer must beware, and do as much research as possible before spending time learning dances vs something practical.
@blazingdragon9607
@blazingdragon9607 2 месяца назад
@@Kamawan0 Katas actually have real life applications.. But then again, the modernisation of karate too, has watered down the art.. The existence of mcdojos and fake senseis.. Sparring and old school training methods cannot be seen in most dojos nowadays.. It's really difficult to find a legit dojo when only a handful of them exist
@Kamawan0
@Kamawan0 2 месяца назад
@@blazingdragon9607 Not all of them. There are many that are dressed up for performance, and worse, many that outright are useless outside of keeping one healthy and limber. Very easy to see the difference if you watch side by side. I taught Korean kung fu for 22 years, there's a marked difference.
@blazingdragon9607
@blazingdragon9607 2 месяца назад
@@Kamawan0 Yes, but then again, it all comes down to the mentor.. a pupil will always follow their mentor.. If the teacher chooses to teach his students only forms, then all his students will learn are forms.. An ideal martial art teacher is someone who has complete knowledge abt what he's teaching.. Also, I'm not really familiar with Korean Kung Fu.. Could you explain what that is?

Wushu is Kung Fu with Gymnastics. The old masters from China got killed by the communist and others moved to Hong Kong, Taiwan, or California. Supposed I heard from my Sifu and learned from a Chinese.
