I always interpreted it as a serial killers first murder. Like Jack the Ripper losing his sanity shortly after the fact, and the song just describes his mental snap.
the song was already written completly on the first old slipknot album (mate feed kill repeat). they just refurbished it. the original title was "killers are quiet".
People always said IOWA is the most fucked up song but in fact the recording process is the genuinely messed up part but sometimes going to extreme lengths is worth it, even it it's not my favourite song on the record.
Now when he said he was strip naked, and if you listen to the song backwards you can hear him saying "DONT LOOK AT ME" wonder if he was talking to clown....
Iowa honestly has to be one of my favorite Slipknot songs, it's just so...Different...I don't really know how else to describe it. Way better than Killers are Quiet in my opinion.
Kinda disappointed by the fact that Corey never mentions that Iowa is a remake of the song Killers Are Quiet from their first album (Mate Feed Kill Repeat).
Hoodie Allen No, at the time of release it was supposed to be their first album (according to Anders Colsefni, their singer at the time). It's just that Corey for whatever reason would rather act like it just doesn't exist, so he just pretends like it was always supposed to be "just a demo tape."
+Icantdothatrightnow shouldnt the decision of releasing it be up to the members that were in the band before him? Paul, Shawn, Joey and Mick were already in the band before Corey. Sounds kinda retarded that Taylor is the one who called the shots. Im not talking shit here, i just find it very strange that he is to be the only reason why it wasnt released when he wasnt in the original line-up.
@@zZ_N0TH1NG_Zz it's a reference to the very start of their song "get this" where you can hear someone saying in the background "give me a scream Corey" and he then does it lol
"GIVE ME A SCREAM COREY" Edit: I still wish I could've seen clowns face when corey took his clothes off while recording Iowa. I'm just picturing his reaction now and I'm screaming
Slipknot's closing tracks are almost always amazing. I probably love Scissors the most, but Iowa is great and The Virus of Life with Danger - Keep Away is great, and the new one, If Rain is what You Want, is probably right up there with Scissors. Not a big fan of All Hope is Gone though. It just doesn't seem like a closing track to me.
All Hope Is Gone is a good closing track in general. When you listen to the whole album it feels like sort of a "Final Boss" song that concludes what the album is about. I do agree that compared to the really sick and dark stuff like Iowa or Scissors its nothing but still an awesome track. It just has a different vibe to it :)
ShipudPargit I can respect that. I don't find All Hope is Gone to be a bad song in general, in fact it's actually a really good song by itself, I just don't like it as a closing track. But I do see what you mean. Maybe I'll have a newfound appreciation of the song now, so thanks.
Sounds like fun times. Been on a binge of Iowa lately, it's such good shit. I had some fucked up dreams after my first listen, laying down with earphones in.
I remember listening to all the songs on Iowa one week during a summer since my grandparents were driving me fucking crazy. That album was what literally kept me sane but insane
Everyone says Iowa is so fucked up but I actually really like the song like it's not as bad as others I've heard, does that mean I'm just naturally fucked up?😂
Funnily enough, Iowa is the first and only song that has endearingly made me want to vomit. I'm not joking, I fucking love the song, its so fucking scary, but every time I'm by myself and I sing along to it, I get right into it and almost every time I feel like I'm gonna be sick.
he was in the middle of a completely unrelated story though lol...if Corey was answering a question like "what kind of practice does it take to withstand all the screaming that you do?" itd make sense...hed go into 'well, eventually, as they say, Scar Tissue is tougher than the Normal Tissue that it replaced--' ("gimme a scream!") '--which eventually lets you just YAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH....! yknow?'
Iowa I heard it during the knotfest 2016 and it had bein 3 years since I heard the song again and when it played I had a dark chill down my back and I couldn’t turn it off his horrific screaming I began to shake
Velvet Acid Christ - Blood Eminem - Kim Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy Nurse With Wound - I Cannot Feel You As the Dogs Are Laughing and I Am Blind Throbbing Gristle - Hamburger Lady
I find all the people talking in the background while he's talking really annoying.. The guys a legend and you've got a chance to really hear how his mind works and yet you're sitting there having your own private conversations.. The give me a scream guy was funny though 😂
To be honest i've misread what your original comment said, I thought you'd said songs that were similar to the Iowa album. Which I think there is throughout the new album. The actual Iowa song isn't really going to reappear anywhere else due to being such a unique track. Appologies for the confusion :)
Iowa is a bit more immersive Id suppose, scissors is in the same direction but with more musicianship to it. I'd say scissors is more structurally balanced. I might be wrong though I've only listened to Iowa all the way through a few times and I can't remember all 15 mins of it lmaoo
