With mall shootings, always remember that all stores in a mall have back doors to back hallways that lead to fire exits. When you here gunfire, run into the store that you are in front of for safety instead of running with “ the heard”. Running with the heard gives a shooter an easier time to pick off victims. When sitting in a food court, sit near a pillar so you have cover AND concealment.

I used to work at a subway, and I would always tell my friends and family, if shit hits the fan, run into any of these food places, there's a back door with LONG ASS hallway leading to the underground parking lot. Where I live mass shootings are not a thing, but you still have to be ready.

@austincummins7712

Was thinking the same thing, and I don't think people realize that it is more difficult than it looks. When you first see it demonstrated in training you think "oh that's simple, I can do this no problem" and then you actually step up on the range for the first time with another student to do the most basic and linear version of this and you are fumbling around like an idiot, not communicating effectively, hitting slide lock at the worst moment possible, and just all around fucking it up. Then you realize- shit...alright that was much harder than it looked. It's funny how you can "college-brain" your way through a dry run of a drill just fine (off to the side during a break or while other students are running the drill or whatever), but then when you step up and the adrenaline gets moving that "lizard-brain" takes over and you are making the stupidest mistakes again (and then you remind yourself that the small amount of simulated stress fucking you up on the range is hardly comparable to the adrenaline dump you would experience if the targets were shooting back at you). In short, yes, these guys made it look easy. I would love to train with them or have the chance to pick their brains for the little tips and knowledge transfer.

@dillydoor

I'm sure it helps you but as a non military trained civilian i prefer less is better and faster. "Moving!" 2nd guy "move!" 1st guy "set" Rinse repeat. That way you don't need to focus to hear an entire sentence. As long as I can pick a good spot and I know my partner isn't going to drill me soon as I'm moving all should be fine.

When I was a conscript in Singapore, we did a similar leap and bound movement but shout "On" instead of "Set", and we were also taught to only get up and move after the section mate who had just moved resumes his cover fire from his new position even if you hear the "On" call-out. Noticed that in the final movement when Mike shouted "Set", DJ and Cole left their positions even though Mike hadn't started giving cover fire yet. Of course I'm no expert but im just sharing my observation and what I know from my limited time as a conscript.

I have played with this stuff with my wife for getting out of situations where things are crazy, but not to the shooting stage yet. Since she is tasked with evacing our child we try to use bumps instead of bounds. That way, I as the security element always stay between our child and danger, even though my wife has her CCW and carries as well. If things are to the shooting stage then SOP is for her and the kid to get out and not stop while I hopefully stop the threat, or just lay down a base of fire to cover their movement. I then would try to get out myself once they are safe. Glad to see you talking about this stuff and how it can apply to the civilian world.
