As Tails was going very fast, the gravitational force of the level begun to give. This explains the wall. As the wall was where it was supposed to be, the gravitational force was in a different area, which was close to tails. And as the gravitational force begun to warp, it eventually was able to crush tails inbetween the level and said gravitational force.

It's because of the corner of the platforms being glitchy, i think, they put collisions so the moving wall be able to smash, you were going to fast that you got in a corner without collision and then got smashed by the other collisions around

So he went too fast... this reminds me when you play with tails in sonic 3 (alone) and when you do ice cap zone act 1 and fall down after the 1st giant ring you automatically die.
