How Sonic Frontiers Rebuilt it's Reputation 

The terrible IGN coverage was SEGA's way of getting back at them for saying "Sonic was never good."

What I wanted for my "ideal" sonic game is linear, but not straight level design (Say something like SA2 with Gens act 2's platforming), better controls, as boost Sonic controls horribly (although I didn't think the boost had to go, fortunately that's not the case), and a big, open area to play with Sonic's abilities, an "improved SA1 hub world" as I used to call it (which just happens to be the Open-Zone concept of Frontiers). I'm scared, because this game's hit every single point that I wanted in my dream Sonic game, and is a modern title, so this could either go very badly or amazingly great. Whatever happens from now on, I just want to say that this Sonic Frontiers ride...seriously, it's been a blast.

I’m really excited for this game, but there are still flaws that need to be addressed. The collision seems to cause Sonic to glitch out on tight edges and going airborne off a slope. My biggest worry is bugs, and especially pop in. Although better than the first trailer, the pop in is still extremely bad. One clip in the overview trailer showed what I would call a pop in animation, where it spawned in as blue light and faded to reveal the platform. If they can’t fix the issue, it would be great if they implemented this animation for all of the platforms and rails.

And literally 1 hour after this video came out they released the new "Vandalized" song. And if you weren't already sold in Frontiers, *you darn well are now* because man is that song good!

Have you heard the ending theme for this game? It’s so catchy that I couldn’t resist to upload it myself. This game honestly looks amazing. I can’t wait for this game.

Another cool thing that has everyone's attention is the ending theme Sega's released a day or two ago. "Vandalize" by ONE OK ROCK. You made this video in a way that really felt professional. I really enjoyed it.

This is probably the most anticipated game for Sonic since 06. Only now, we have a company that seems to be learning from their mistakes. I hope it turns out well and that Sonic finally gets the comeback he deserves.

4:22 is when I realised I had nothing to worry about.

If theres a couple of things I'm still taking issue with Sonic Frontiers is how the platforming doesn't look well thought out in the overworld, and the janky animations. Sonic still looks as stiff as a board when he runs, and his combat animations look equally rigid, he just snaps from one pose to the next, there's no weight nor flow to attacks, specially that one tornado kick move where he spins while stuck in an upward kick pose, it just looks clunky and awkward. Yeah, I know, those are just nitpicks, but I'm someone who believes good animations goes a long way in making a game feel satisfying to play, even something as simple as a good running cycle makes just the act of running around in a game feel good.

It's great that you're excited for this game but me personally, I'm don't really want to get my hopes to high. I'm still gonna say mostly neutral but I hope that this game can exceed my expectations.

I'm looking forward to the open zone and to see the cyberspace stages. This game might be on par with Mario Odyssey. Nov. 8 can't come soon enough.

As someone who was very critical of all the Frontiers demos we’ve gotten since the initial reveal. I gotta say I’ve had a complete change of heart after the last two trailers. The game just genuinely looks like a lot of fun to play. I’m still skeptical and will wait for the reviews to come in, but I’m definitely cautiously optimistic that this will be a fun sonic game!

From controversial IGN go showcase to this, I wonder what Sega and Sonic Team is doing anyway. But at least, this game got me hype!

I’m really glad that sonic frontiers is getting good reception from the FANDOM because sonic as a franchise Has a bit of a rocky situation its sometimes good and other times are bad but for me I can omit the games throughout the years could be bad but I wouldn’t go to the extent of what most Internet reviewers tend to say and always defend it and I especially got a little bit frustrated with the first trailer of sonic frontiers on how people say “oh this doesn’t have this or this doesn’t have that” but it doesn’t matter anymore seems like sonic is getting a better future can’t say the same for silver 😅

I very much was on the fence until the latest trailer. It sold me, and I know it won’t be exactly what I want, but it seems much more than I expected of Sonic Team. Cyberspace can be Special Stages reused and new. The open zone looks legit like it encourages speed and constant movement and yes it’s not super momentum based but…considering we assumed we are gonna get Sonic Forces in a Unity engine, there seems to be a lot more. I’m hyped, this will be the first new Sonic game I can play with my kid us together and I really hope this can have the magic for him that Sonic 2 and later Adventure did for me at his age. If I have to eat my words then this is the death knell for Sonic Team but for once since generations I’m super interested. Ragnarok be damned ( extremely isolated hot take lol )

Please let this be one of the best Sonic games of all time!

I feel relatively comfortable that Ian Flynn, the old writer for the Archie Sonic comics had a hand in directing the story here. Factor in the advice that Christian Whitehead gave to the team in charge of this project and you can be certain the game has a good foundation. Im praying to high heaven that it all works out in the end.

Pretty excited that this game will be the first Open-World 3D Sonic game and it'll be gorgeous. I also love how they're now letting Sonic have some combat for his gameplay. Something we haven't seen since Sonic Unleashed and even later since Sonic Battle. They're also adding in his natural Air Manipulation ability to his skill and versatile as yet another major gameplay mechanic. Since last time we've used Sonic's wind powers was from Sonic Heroes. Sure there was Sonic 06. But that required you buying some item to use it. Overall, I can't wait for this game to come out. I'm very positive about this game as of me making this comment. And I hope that this game is the start of the Sonic Renaissance era we Sonic fans hoped to be.

One of the most important things for me that not many people appreciate is that we're finally getting a game with several moves, and an interesting combat that isn't just homing attack spam or button mash. I've always dreamed of a Sonic game like Spark 3

I hope they can make sonic more faster later on in the game. I do wanna feel that sense of overwhelming feel of speed in unleashed where it rewards you the more you memorize the places and stages.

If this is the future type of content you'll be making than i'm glad to be here before 1k! I haven't felt this much hope for a Sonic game in so long! I was always a big fan and always hoped that the reputation of the games would get better, so seeing that they finally allow Sonic to move just as a car would in a 3D open space like GTA or sum; It makes me so unbelievably happy. I still want them to improve and optimize as much as they can not just on Sonic's gameplay and collision but the collision of all environments and how well they can aid Sonic in his traversal through them. There's already so many games who can pull this aspect off, so i hope great consideration for the world design has beentaken with care!

I'm still a bit down that the level designs are reused. I mean, the first 20-30 seconds of Chemical Plant are 100% IDENTICAL to the Generations version, I consistently play Generations so I'd know. But I'll be able to look past that, because the rest of the game looks great to me. And Vandalize goes hard.

I’m confident all the flubs with Frontiers early advertising was entirely intentional.

I personally fail to see the problem with reusing old assets as long as there's enough new assets to stand on its own.

Holy shit. Sonic Team is utilizing everything they've learned from all of their previous games and adding them into this game. What worked in those games, like some parkour in Lost World, and adding that. Im excited for this game

The truly baffling early marketing decisions could possibly be explained by the SEGA listing for marketing leadership around the time of the IGN first footage. Regardless, I was always going to buy this game and probably enjoy it, but seeing the marketing just look better and better with time has been something to behold. I think people are going to look closely at how this game was presented to consumers as a case study for future marketing campaigns.

I've been on board for sonic frontiers since it's announcement, it's nice to see the tide and opinion changing for the better. This feels like sonic is finally back, the slightly serious tone is where sonic shines brightest. I can't wait for this, i really have faith in it. Super excited

i think one of the things i think would make this game even better is the option to play as other characters in the franchise, even if they are just a simple reskin, like, maybe if you rescue one of sonic's friends, you unlock that character as a skin, for those who like the gameplay but wanna play as say, rouge, knuckles, blaze, etc etc

I’ve taken a stance with sonic content not to really pay anyone any attention or humor their opinions until I’ve gotten my hands on it myself. That being said I felt like I was the only one excited for this game from the start since it’s reveal. I like Sonic, I buy Sonic has been the way I see the series regardless of the quality. I also don’t blindly support the decisions Sonic team makes. I do believe that they learn the wrong lessons from their past games. Sonic 06 got horribly dragged for years and as a result one of my favorite characters in the whole franchise is delegated to nothing more than an extra cameo in spin off games. I think they’re taking steps in the right direction for now this game has looked more appealing than anything they’ve released in the last 10 years for me at least. I’m glad that other people are also getting excited for it as well. So let’s hope we can all enjoy it together!

For me, the story trailer sold me over. So much so that I pre-ordered this game as soon as it was available.

Praying this isn't a Forces situation..cuz i remembered those days when we were sorta hyped for that and then was sorely disappointed. I want a good sonic game and sonic needs it. I'm not one of those sonic haters who just want find any reason to bitch and whine about every sonic game *cough*cough*name rhymes with "Karen"*cough* lol. But yea, things are looking interesting this time and do look more polished and better marketed.

Actually from the first trailer it looks great to me. Idk maybe im weird

The gameplay is looking nice and polished, but part of me is still worried about the story. I know that the narrative isn't the focus, but it feels like we haven't had a well-written Sonic game since Black Knight, and Sonic himself feels like a generic hero powered by friendship instead of the free-spirited maverick with a heart of gold that he was before. My main hope for the story is that it handles a darker tone better than Forces did.

i will forever say that SA2 was the single best 3D sonic game in my opinion, and up there in top 3 sonic games, period. there’s a lot they could do with this series in that regard. pulling from mainly SA2, a bit from unleashed and a bit from generations and you could have one of the best sonic games ever made. hope this game is up there! (also please just give us back the chao garden🥲 the amount of ppl who STILL play SA2 to this day solely for the chao garden is ridiculous. they struck a gold mine and never went back to it)

I just want Sonic to have a win in the video game genre. It's been so, so long since we've gotten a great Sonic game, especially since I didn't especially care for the boost era of Sonic games (it felt too much like I was trying to drive a fast car that can do homing attacks, rather than play as the Sonic I learned to love in the Adventure era). This game is extremely ambitious and has so much potential, but I can't help but to think of another extremely ambitious Sonic game that had a ton of pre-release hype but was so flawed on release that it nearly killed the entire franchise, Sonic 06. I desperately hope that history doesn't repeat itself and that this game is great. It would make my entire year to have a Sonic success story.
