When our motherland, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 was hit by Tsunami in 2004, Mr. Shane Warne was one of the biggest stars to visit here and bring a lot of help from all around the world for the the needed families, especially the children. That alone proves there's nothing permanent in the great game of Cricket, when it comes to the rivalry or any other conflicts that happen on field. Thank you for your kindness! 🫶 Hope Aussies will tour here soon and have a great time like in the last occasion.

This was by far the best coverage of Sri Lanka’s 96’s glory. They changed cricket forever. Ranatunga was an absolute pioneer who took brilliant tactical decisions, built the team, nurtured them like a father figure, and fought against oppressions like a true lion. You correctly pointed out - without Jayasuriya’s destructive approach- there wouldn’t any of what followed in the upcoming years and decades.

One important to note is that at that point a civil war was going on in Sri Lanka between the Sri Lankan Army and the Tamil Tigers. The war actually caused quite a lot of divisions between the majority Sinhalese population and the minority Tamils. Murali, being the youngest and the only Tamil player in the squad, receiving supporting from the a team full of Sinhaleses, really helped in promoting national unity.

8:49 the earliest cricket story I was told of was by my uncle, who'd gone to Kotla to watch this game. After India has batted and set a formidable score, he went to take a leak during the innings break. There was a huge line, apparently, but he was calm that the Lankans would take their time in the first few overs. When he'd relieved himself, he came back to see Sri Lanka at 55 in the first 5 overs. It was something no one in the crowd had seen before, Jayasuriya and Kaluwitharna ripped our bowlers to absolute pieces. People were stunned.

In the shadowy realm of Cricketania, where bats creak and balls haunt, the Indian fanbase's egos cast a spooky spell on their own team's fortunes. Despite the Indian team's ghostly good performance, a growing crowd of spectators turned into disenchanted specters, their love fading like mist. Indian RU-vidrs and TikTokers, brewing their cauldrons of toxic potions, hexed teams with their digital curses. Meanwhile, the Aussies, like wizards of the willow, rose from the ashes to seize victory, cheered on by a massive, 130,000-strong army of phantoms, not just there for mere mortals, but for the true sorcery of cricket. "You always pick pitches bewitched for Indian bats, don't you?" taunted the spirits. "Such a typical charm of third-world sorcerers, always conjuring up money spells." Ghosts from every nation joined in a spectral chorus, rooting for Australia's triumph, eager to hush the overwhelming thunder of the crowd. It was a spine-chilling day for indian cheaters lmao (pitch doctoring, bcci controlling icc) a moment of eerie awakening for aussie warriors. (can't buy the aussies, we are too rich, we have gold) And oh, the ghastly antics of the Indian fanbase! Like mischievous poltergeists, they haunted Pat Cummins and other Australian players on Instagram. Such third-class, spine-tingling shenanigans from fans!

In my opinion, the Sri Lankan line up in 2006-7 was a much stronger side when you consider the skill level compared to the 96 team, but they missed something the 96 team possessed, that grit and fighting spirit. 2009 world cup was theirs to take, but missed that second coming in that final. This was my first cricket world cup. I was 4 but I remember both the semi final loss and the group stage loss of this world cup for India. In the group stages, I thought it was a clinched deal when both Tendulkar and Azharuddin (our only two good batsmen in the team) played a brilliant innings, however Sri Lanka just rampaged past it. But Aravinda De Silva deserves a lot of plaudits for his performance in the semis and finals of this tournament. He doesn't get the credit he deserves but he pretty much stopped the batting order from collapsing for Sri Lanka in the two crunch games.

That Sri Lankan team really lifted the interest of Aussie cricket fans that summer. The season before, we had the tour of a mediocre England and feeble Zimbabwe side, so much so that we had Australia A playing in a four team "triangular" series, with both Aussie sides in the finals. The season after, we had just been through a dour test series with an uninspiring Pakistan and when Sri Lanka arrived and started blazing away, they were an absolute breath of fresh air. Sachin was in his imperious best and only after he got out, we realized what a minefield the pitch was. Seeing a batting collapse after Sachin getting out was a thing we were very used to, and we knew that was a mountain to climb. But what happened at 120/8 was a disgrace! Vinod Kambli sobbing his way back to the dressing room after the match was called off, has ever since been etched in my mind.

Mate, this is as good a narration as it gets of those events in 96. Brought me back to the 10 year old kid who watched those events unfold without knowing how profound they would be in years to come. You have truly done justice to a brilliant story of our game. Kudos.

First up. 10/10 for your effort. On a sidenote, I appreciate your transparent journalism when it came to mentioning who's responsible for the bomb attacks in Colombo. Because I've recently read an article by Andrew Fidel on the 96 triumph, and as much of a gifted writer as he is, he didn't have the spine to even mention the LTTE. Thank you. Keep doing your thing. And if Sri Lanka wins this world cup(2023), make another one of these. :)

From 1996 to 2014 other than the 1999 World cup Srilanka finished in good position in the world cup. In 2003 Semi-finals, 2007 Finals and in 2011 Finals, even in Twenty20 world cups

First video. But a great one.. I wish good luck with your channel. It was amazing. A small country with unique talent always impressed world cricket. Sri Lankans performance was questionable recent years due to the mismanagement by Sri Lankan cricket authorities. But still all the nation behind them. I have a one pain point that all the Asian countries backed each other in a major tournament like World Cup. Those days my family backed India and Pakistan in World Cup finals if we couldn’t make it. Because we are Asians. ❤❤
