G10 ranks higher in all durability areas, including tensile strength, compressive strength, and flexural strength. Even though micarta and G10 are both resin-based composites, G10’s glass properties give it an advantage over the cloth properties of micarta. I recently had a custom canvas micarta scale break under minimal use on my TOPS TIBO.

Great testament to how much of a good material it is and how good you bond and process it.

Crazy material. I wounder if cars and houses could be built out of this.

They’ve been using it to make sail boats for years. It’s arguably the strongest building material on the world.

This is why I don't understand why some people, including the judges on Forged in Fire, are concerned with a hidden tang knife only being epoxied in the handle without a pin or any mechanical connection. There's no way you're pulling an epoxied tang out of a handle without destroying the handle, just like that pin wouldn't come out. Sure as heck not gonna come out during normal or even abusive use.

Most informative video on G 10 handle material toughness. I would like to see one like this on micarta, since the two are both common handle materials. Keep the videos coming.

super sharp camera focusing mate, and there's some legit rock pattern going on with the walnut. jokes aside great videos buddy, I'm planning to make habaki with G10 for my IPE wakizashi mounting. your content showed some serious durability that will help my build. cheers mate!

I think the pins were what made the handle look ugly. Really interesting to see how much it takes to get that off, though.

yeah, the pins whern't my cup of tea. but solid as heck though

Aloha from Hawaii DB Blades and fellow youtubers. After all the hammer blows you’d think it would look really bad but from my perspective it totally did wonders. Sometimes that hammered look just gives it that pop. Even in demolition mode your artistic prowess shows through as the pattern flow shows. G10 is good stuff. I would’ve stop at the point of drilling clean up the piece with a few more blows then sand and knock down anything that feels or looks bad and call it good:)

I liked the video, thank you! I am lucky because one of the first knives I have owned were G10s. Later I bought a custom made knife with walnut handle. It was not a good choice even I tried to protect It from water and mechanical injuries It started to come loose and dried out at the pivots. Do you know that micarta is as strong as G10 or is it something less durable? Hope you will answer, thank you again.

Was the grinder broke mate? Lmfao😝 Just kidding! Face on because of the compression process G-10 is crazy strong...like you demonstrated only splitting its layers side on works. And what about the Epoxy! That’s some tough shit, and even though it varies brand to brand the shear strength of any of the good stuff is amazing. You’ve made way more knives than me, but I work in the Auto-body business and use 3M epoxy in-place of welds on cars these days (OEM spec) and that stuff is bulletproof. Any customer that has any doubt about the bond strength of epoxy should put any such doubts to rest. Great destruction video Dom👍👊
@armageddonknives
@armageddonknives 5 лет назад
absolutely, I'd wager its probably the toughest synthetic handle material on the market today. Modern epoxies are crazy as you said, with proper cleaning and a nice surface to grab on to your not getting that stuff off without serious work
@evaderknives

I had a guy from one of the facebook knife groups I'm in, have this problem, he put it in the oven at 250f(121c), then the epoxy melted & the handles came right off... As long as the temps are under temper, it should be fine...

Wow, solid! Blade and handle. I didn't think the handle looked all that bad, but it did make for a great test/video! Will you ever be doing another titanium build? Or some bushcraft/survival knives (fixed blade) with 1/4" (6-7mm) tangs?
@armageddonknives
@armageddonknives 5 лет назад
It looked better on camera, I pins looked really grimy up close for whatever reason. I've got the material for another Ti build so probably. As far as survival knives I might make them but they aren't really my style

@@jbfthree1 that's irrelevant to my question, it was to see if g10 would work to make a stab resistance vest, on with my work, 1/4" HDPE works well.
