Here at Montana Knife Company, we spend a lot of time talking about how we craft our blades. It’s time our handles got some attention, too.
I’m often asked why we make our knives with G10 knife handles. Wouldn’t a wood handle be better? Not necessarily - and it’s time I explain why.

G-10 does seem like it makes the most sense for your application. We used it in fixturing with success and I can tell you it definitely holds up.

I agree with you on the look of the G-10 but Micarta seems to be more grippy to me when wet which is nice Another one I really like is the Suretouch G-10 with rubber in between the layers. If you do eventually add other options please offer thoughs scales separately so we can put them on knives that we currently have of yours. Thanks

I have always liked G10 grips. The older Strider, Emerson, or slightly softer Zero Tolerance were rough G10 slabs with very practical handles. Your magna cut blade finish/patina on my olive Field Craft Survival Knife is beautiful. Now the handles are rounded slightly sculpted a bit thinner for fingers to be slightly swollen in the palm area. But it has a great horizontal texture. It seems like an intentional very slight milling left across the handle. Comfortable but has an excellent grip. The metal tang also has a cross texture almost like file marks rather than polished smooth metal. The slightly rough rustic quality makes a firm handle to grip and hold. Could you explain your technique? Also, I have this Benchmade custom Crooked River that is all black but they over-polished the G10. It is so smooth really almost slippery. I am not sure if I should return it or try maybe a 600 or 400-grit wet dry sandpaper going across the handle. I am not sure if that would work. Any suggestions? I am going to catch one of those light Mini Speed Goat beauties this week. Happy Trails.

Thank you so much! We mill the G10 to be somewhat checkered, if that makes sense. As far as taking sandpaper to the Benchmade, we are not sure if that would void any kind of warranty they have or not so we can’t say we would recommend it!

Yes, it makes sense and really works well. Thank you.@@MontanaKnifeCompany

My guess is the tang rough edge texture is from belt sanding.

I wish you used it on ALL of your knife handles. Please add an option of this handle for the Speedgoat Series. 550 isn't exactly a durable or useful handle for the working/hunting man.
