This startup was founded by Shark Tank shark Vineeta Singh in 2015 when Shark Tank shark Vineeta Singh identified a very big gap in the consumer market of cosmetics in India. Vineeta Singh is an IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad graduate who got an offer of a 1 Crore package from an investment banking firm but she declined the offer. Vineeta identified that big brands like Lakme, Maybelline, Revlon and MAC were operating in Glossy cosmetic segment when Vineeta decided to enter the Matt cosmetics range. Today Sugar cosmetics is dominating the Indian cosmetics market through its value for money products along with its genius marketing. 2:37 boat used the dame strategy too,before boat there were very less products between 400-1000rs. Either you can buy a cheap one which doesn't work properly or a very costly one. boat filled that gap (Source - Think school)

It didn’t eliminate competition. It’s just co-existing as people like trying new products when it comes to make up. Nobody would buy the same product again until and unless it’s something like irreplaceable and that’s rare. It’s like maybelline mascara or lip balm which is a staple, I guess. I mean who hasn’t used colossal or baby lips. You can’t say the same about sugar yet.

What ever he saying here was already being fulfilled by Lakme. Because Lakme had products suitable for Indian skin preference. And Lakme was better in quality than the initial products of sugar cosmetics. I remember buying sugar lipstick from health and glow which turned out to give me chapy finish and also pigmentation on lips. When I mentioned it in the shop, they told me that all the products were taken back by the sugar cosmetics because they were flooded with complaints. But later on they came back with many products and this time quality was better than before, not exceptional. The reason why any outlet would let the product back on their shelves after being flooded by complaints is offers and marketing. There are funders of big businesses who don't come out as investors due to many reasons ranging from being a backstab investment (those who are already involved in others similar businesses as working partners) to politicians and bureaucrats with money for which they can't show accounts. That seems to be the success formula of sugar and similar businesses. It's not wrong and sugar cosmetics has many worthy and good products now. And Kyle cosmetics has way less quantity compared to Lakme, sugar or K beauty but that product sells because of its owner/ambassador. That's how corporates and businesses work now a days. Hype beats quality and customer is the most innocent target. Nothing wrong in this either because business is business.

For me, when I watched the first episode of Shark tank, that's when I ordered the combo of Sugar products. And I have hardly used 3/9 products that they've given but I feel proud to own it. Not because of the brand name or whatever but because a lot of time and creativity has gone into the aesthetics of the products. Be it Revlon, Lakme, Maybelline etc . Whenever you use their product, they have a similar kind of packaging and that leads to a rough handling of those products.. but as soon as you hold the box of banana powder by Sugar or even it's highlighter, you feel like you're owning cute japanese mini toys or something 🤣 I mean It is so aesthetically pleasing to look at or to even hold that you feel bad for unwrapping the whole thing.. It makes my entire make-up shelf look pretty.. It is Indian but it doesn't feel like it and that's why I would always prefer Sugar above Nykaa as well .

I think one underrated point is the way Sugar named it's lipsticks... Choosing names which represent iconic fictional women for the shades close to what they wore. Many women will relate to those characters by having lipsticks with their names and shades resembling what they carried on those shows.

I have use luxurious brands like Bobby brown, Mac, Milani,cliniq they are very high end products...but but but sugar cosmetics won my heart. It's packaging, lasting power, pigmentation is jaw dropping 😯 I know little bit costly than lakme and Maybelline but it's worth it. It's my current favorite brand.

Same thing happened with me too, my colleague bought some Sugar lipsticks and I tried them a few times from her and loved the texture a lot and went and bought 3 lipsticks worth 799 each and it was before the lockdown in 2019, the brand was not very popular at that time, not many advertisements were available, no celebrity endorsements too it was just my colleague who told me about the products and the products itself were so good that I couldn't resist from buying them.

Sugar didn't eliminated brands but created good competition. Sugar has something unique in each of their products. Lakme has its premium range known as 'absolute'. So it is not about price gap. Sugar markets long lasting makeup. For example sugar liquid lipsticks has unique shades and they are really long lasting.

You missed few big points in your review. 1. Velvette lifestyle in the real name of the parent company of sugar cosmetics. It owns fab bag, a beauty subscription service ( till date active). Fab bag is the reason why sugar cosmetics is so successful. Its because of the consumer data. 2. Sugar cosmetics first product was an eyeliner and coal pencil. Then it went to nail paints ( now discotinued ), lispticks came later. I have been purchasing sugar cosmetics for a real long time. 3. They are the one of the first companies to invest heavily in influencer marketing. 4. Sugar cosmetics actually caters to all skin tones. It does not exclude dark skin. 5. The brand always has amazing offers.

Sugar cosmetics have terrific quality. I have used many international brands but found that some products by Sugar Cosmetics are relatively hard to replace. Also none of their products have had a negative effect on my skin which is quite sensitive. They are now a burgeoning force, if they play their cards right it has the potential to be a made-in-india multinational company in the field of cosmetics.

I'm not satisfied with sugar powdery lipstick worth Rs.479 as it's not long lasting as said ..remains hardly on lips about three hours n fades away while eating anything..have to be careful 🙂

I have been using Sugar cosmetics since it’s inception Today they have a wide range of cosmetics . When it was launched they gave so many rewards and gifts . Now they have limited gifts , which is understandable.

It might have killed competetion but Lakme can't be beaten in terms of quality let it be in lipsticks eyeshadow..and also in genuine price .my reveiws about sugar is just another cosmetic brand..Lakme ll be best as always ...another brand colourbar is far way better in terms of eyeliners offered my sugar .

this brand is not very affordable and expensive and lie in mid range give you a experience feel there packaging is just amazing👍😍😍 and personally i feel they are connected to their audience both offline and online 💓 i do think some time there products are Overrhyped but there lipsticks are amazing i have tries them

Whatever you said is correct as an avid cosmetics user i personally didn't like Lakme and other usual brands because I am dark skinned and when sugar was getting popular due to the mid range segment u felt like if I have to have this instead of the cheap Lotus vlcc products. The entry of Sugar was kinda refreshing in the beauty community as i finally saw shades that could match my skintone. Also their reviews were very good on RU-vid, that's how it became the new Lakme ig
