Biodegradeable packaging will almost always lead to a worse customer experince. Being more easily degradable, it won't hold up as well during use. Given how common paper straws have become, I'm sure most people have become painfully aware of this fact.

I brought up Trump for two reasons. 1. I felt India and China were unfairly targeted as producers of World's waste by someone who "MIGHT" have a Donald Trump Thinking Complex. 2. In the video it was said that legislation should be made to reduce plastic. You think Donald Trump will introduce legislation? He does not know the difference between India and hindu. He has no idea about how the world works. He took your country out of the Paris agreement. Just because you live in a continental island does not give you the right to waste or pollute especially after knowing there is a problem. Yes there are a lot of plastica on the beaches in India. Do you think that we only threw it there? Have you heard of ocean water currents? Where were we in the 1960s. The use of Plastic in India by the masses is a recent phenomenon and we are already trying to be more environmentally friendly by making people buy plastic bags at almost a 1000% markup. I personally take bags when I go to shop. Many do too. Yes we have coal powered plants. We've been using it for 40 years in the scale that the West has been using for the last 120 years. We still use bullock power because we can't afford it. You want to roll back emissions standards because "Donald thinks about the environment?" You know what, I'll let you in on a secret we will also get out of coal faster than your America will. Its funny with all the education in the West you cannot do more in your own country. It beggars belief that in a country with so many brilliant people there are people who don't believe in climate change, who believe that Obama was an Arab, that Nazis were good somehow, that owning slaves was a good thing, that all muslims are bad, or that somehow wearing a turban makes you a terrorist. Hope you don't wear a turban mate. Why hate the illiterate farmers in Haryana who burn crops because they don't know any better. At least our illiterate Indians listen to reason and by the next few years the crop burning will stop as the waste will be bought to make electricity by burning it in waste power plants or composting it to make fertilizers. As for our illiterate chaiwala PM. I don't like him. Because of his social and religious views. But at least he has brought about good change. We are using more LED lights in our house. Less electricity consumption. We will install more solar and wind power. Less coal burning. We will try to reduce ICE vehicles. Less pollution. And what America do. Go back to gas guzzling V8s. I grew up loving the US. Hollywood did a great job. The US was always right, just and the good people in everything. But after getting an education and especially after the 2nd Gulf war it seems that maybe I was wrong. America was Great. Now she isn't Great. She will not be Great until she understands that she maybe a different country but in onle ONE Earth.

A valid point. Growing up, the kitchen was often the biggest room in the house. It's where people gathered, ate, drank coffee, sometimes wine, and a now near obsolete social exercise, conversed. And none of us were fat. Today, homes, condos, apartments are build with minimal hotel like kitchenettes. We're fatter, sicker, and more socially disconnected than ever. Times sure haven't changed all for the better.

Step 1: Standardize reusable takeout containers Step 2: Deliver/hand out the food in these containers, charging a deposit. Step 3: Customer returns standardized container at any point that gives them: Next time you eat takeout, just hand over your used containers to the cashier/delivery driver. Customer gets the deposit back. Any foodmaker will take them because they're standardized. Step 4: Implement a container exchange network so foodmakers can exchange excess containers and unneeded types (for example a fries container at a pizza place) as well as obtain needed types. Step 5: Thoroughly clean the containers, taking care of allergens. This can be done either by the acceptor, the next giveouter or at a third party. Step 7: See Step 2. Final Step: Implement this whole system into law.

Rainbow Dash I've looked into it before, it's because they get shredded down and then broken down to be able to make new plastic products, but when there's food residue the plastic is impure, and since it's biological matter, it'd result in bacteria and foul odors unless extra cost is spent trying to purify itm
@imzjustplayin
@imzjustplayin 6 лет назад
paper needs to be clean to be recycled. However, some cities are accepting soiled paper and cardboard for compost which makes more sense. Having all take out food and their containers be compostable is the most logical choice because then consumers don't have to be bothered with cleaning and recycling them. Recyclable plastic is irrelevant if it doesn't get recycled which most of it does not.

America should try the South Korean way of take out. People that work at an office or mall get sent food on stainless steel containers on trays, then when they're done, the customers leave the trays, utensils, and containers on a designated shelf located in the office or mall for the restaurants' delivery persons to pick it up in the end of the day. this video essay is all over the place. Like what the main idea how food containers came to be or how they are ruining the earth?

I usually just go to my local grocery store and stock up on frozen pizza, meals, and other long lasting foods every now and then. Cheaper, and nowadays, most containers are recycle as long as you clean them first before discarding them.

I personally would bring my own clean glassware from home to transport any food (meats, poultry, fish, etc) from store to home. That would certainly cut down on plastic use - if not eliminate it.

takeout is near 20% cheaper than eating in where receipt explicitly spell out 15% tip = $$$ and it's 15% of after tax, thus near 20%. If you got problem with creating waste from take out, then it's not much different than buying frozen food from supermarket or vegetable/seafood/meat from the supermarket. it's not like you are keep grounded meat in your pocket instead of being wrapped.

I eat out 3 or 4 times a week and have never got take out, either make food at home or I’m gonna sit down at the restaurant

Eating take-out containers... that's an excellent idea! This is why I always get ice cream cones rather than eating ice cream in a cup. Just make sure the container is delicious though.

The edible container is a step in the right direction, but sends the wrong message. What the restaurant industry wants, along with every environmentally minded consumer, is a 'Golden Container' in reference to a take-out container that can rapidly breakdown after use, but can maintain its durability while actively being used for storage. I couldn't give an actual product, but I remember a few paper take out boxes from restaurants years ago, made from recycled newspapers, but if the restaurant forgot to put a wax paper lining in the bottom, the condensation or heat would make it crumble (Imagine a fresh out the oven hot pizza). When it came to take-out orders like teriyaki chicken, even if there wasn't much sauce, the juices soaked into the package, and if it was sitting in your lap, there was a good chance you'd be wearing your meal by the time you were finished eating. They didn't last long (too many complaints, I suspect), but I feel that bringing those up are relevant to this video. If they were redesigned, and made marginally more durable, (recycled newspapers with corn perhaps? I hear you can make Everything out of corn these days), then that would be the 'Golden Container' the food industry, and the conscious-minded consumers are looking for.

What I don't get is that in 2015 we created 80M tons of packaging waste, but there are 13 Trillion tons of plastic dumped into the ocean each year? If their own facts are true, then packaging waste is hardly the issue in ocean pollution.

Tony Walsh it's because most of the waste comes from China and India, they just conveniently left that out
