First of all, all charging stations should be standard for all electric cars.

In the UK non Tesla chargers you have to create an account before charging. They are trying to force brand loyalty but in reality it is a barrier to adoption of electric cars.

I have owned and driven my Nissan LEAF (fully Electric Vehicle) since 2017. In my home city of San Antonio, TX, I noticed that there was a small but decent EV Charing Station infrastructure here. However in early 2019 I noticed that some of the charging stations were actually being shut down or removed. This concerned me yet thankfully Chargepoint installed their own EV stations in those places and many times they are free or simply cost $1 per hour of charge. I routinely "fill up" my EV on $2 of charge or in a few places with no cost at all. I strongly wish the US and my home state can use policy and government funds to bolster the slim EV charging station network. This will encourage more buyers of EV's, which by the way, have incredibly small maintenance costs; no oil changes, less moving parts, less to repair.

In Norway where I live, apartment buildings is required by law to offer charging possibilities for inhabitants. The user must pay for the charger of course, but they cannot be denied charging at home

Also re. charging stations - in suburbs (which is most of the US), you don't need more than a couple of charging stations as everyone can just charge at home. Most likely it will also be closer to the highway so people can just pop into town, charge up and go. For those around the city, they can just hop over to this if needed rarely or just charge at home. In larger cities you will have need for more charging stations because people will park on the street or in public garages with charging stations there. What I see then is just Super charging stations along Interstates and places like say a large mall in the town/city along with destination chargers at hotels and other business areas.

I just did a 1300mi trip from the north coast to the south Central Valley in CA using nothing but EA and it all worked well. Spent no extra time to charge bc all the chargers were at places (retailers) that we wanted to stop at.

Fix charge times, fix EV pricing (make them cheaper), and increase the range. Only THEN will EVs become widely accepted.

Tesla's can handle 30-35miles/hour charging on a level 2, and although their supercharger networks are specifically engineered for their cars' batteries which is why they can achieve a full charge in under an hour, it would be nice if Tesla made them compatible with other EV's. Given that their overall mission is 'to accelerate the worlds transition into sustainable energy' its a shame they only offer charging infrastructure for their cars. Glad to see that the technology is developing more and more with each day!

Just curious. Was my garage counted in the number of charging stations? And how many of those gas pumps were in car owner garages? For most EV owners, there will be a charger in their garage for everyday use. As for Tesla, there are enough charging stations to allow road trips to almost anywhere in the US (and there are more being built to account for the small areas that still need them). I have driven from NV to WI as well as CA and the GPS planned where to stop to recharge. The other EV manufacturers mostly depend on independent providers for road trip support. BTW, even my grandkids figured out how to plug in the charging cable.

11:53 in the video... in most states Tesla charges per minute. The cost is around 22 to 26 cents / minute. Charging slows as the battery fills, so I usually charge for 17-20 minutes... that’s $4.50 to $5 to get 200 miles in my battery. We charge at home each night.... our fuel costs are 40% of what our 2016 Honda Civic cost us to operate. We used to spend $250 a month on gas for a civic and Honda Fit... we now spend $110 on electric.

80% of ev's are charged at home at night. How many ac outlets are in your house vs how much gas is in your house. So 80% of the infrastructure is in place plus location chargers and supercharger in the thousands. More ac outlets than gas stations.

I’ve never seen such a video that missed the main points by a group of so called experts that talk about how they want an industry rather than what the consumer wants. Electric vehicles WILL NOT take off until 2 things are solved. Speed of charging - more and more are moving into smaller block homes or apartments. They do not have home chargers. Plus those with homes do not always have the money to install dedicated chargers. So no one wants to wait hours to recharge batteries - why swap a gas car that takes 5 minutes for something that takes 5 hours. Specially if you live in a small property. The second reason is large countries like the USA and Australia and Africa and South America - all of whom travel long distances. No one wants to have to so frequently to recharge OR take hours to recharge. You travel 300 miles, stop to recharge and only get 100 miles out of a rapid chargers, then travel another 100 miles and recharge to get another 100 miles. Jesus. Plus this stupid difference in recharge companies where you can use one chargers but not another; or they are different PIN types. That’s just ridiculous. Can you imagine your gas car that restricts you to just one type of gas bowser because other browsers don’t fit into your gas tank. Or one brand of gas. Stupid. And these idiots; designers, builders and the industry heavyweights are so wrapped up in themselves they don’t see any of this.

Another problem that isn’t addressed is the problem of taxing charging like how we tax fuel. Those taxes pay for road maintenance, and as more electric cars are driven there will be less fuel tax received, meaning even greater shortfalls in road budgets.

There is more electric chargers than no. of gas stations! Each home can charge at least 1 car for a routine commute. That's is millions of chargers!

I can see 2 scenario's high-voltage direct DC charging at numbers similar to gas stations, or class 2 chargers so ubiquitous that they are at most parking spots so every time you park you can top off your charge for however long you're there be it 45 minutes or 4 hours. The only way the 2nd can work is if the utilities put up those chargers and they can talk to your car and just add it to your electric bill as if you're charging at home. If individual municipalities do this they'd have to make you pre-pay for a set amount of charge like a parking meter.

The fact that manufacturers aren’t using a universal charging standard is a deal breaker for me.

I remember about 5 years ago, the Tesla supercharger station at the Culver City mall in LA was usually only half full with some Model S’s and Model X’s but ever since the Model 3 came out, there’s been a line around the block to get to it. Elon said he’s working on adding more here but if you don’t have your own charger, it’s a hassle.

Charging is ready 1/2 the cost of gas

I think Tesla nailed the tech from the start and everyone needs follow. High voltage AC with low amps. NOT expensive AC to DC with a huge plug and tons of resistance. For example 128 KiloWatts = 32 amp x 4,000volts. So the transformers can simply ramp up/down the voltage to meet the demand. NOT have these crazy expensive AC-to-DC converters for each charger unit. For home you can use your included Tesla mobile charger to handle up to 8 KW. And up to 11.5 KW with the dedicated wall charger. The complexity is inside the car, not in the charger.

Most people do the same round trips most of the time.... So charge point stops can be planned... And if you have a solar panel and batteries in your main residence even better...

If you live in an apartment, isn't it possible through some simple wiring to install an electrical socket in the parking lot that would draw power from your apartment?

PG&E in california is now 51 cents per kWh peak and 43 cents off-peak, 5 times the cost anywhere else, the cost of electricity is now equal to buying gas at $6 a gallon for a car that gets 30 mpg, the reasons to switch to electric have evaporated in california.

Right now, at a fuel pump it may take about 15-20 minutes with a few cars ahead of you in line. Also right now, there aren't many evs at charging points. But consider how long one would be tied up at a charging station with only 3 vehicles ahead of you at each available charging point. When everyone drives an ev, there will have to be parking lots full of charging stations in order to have an available spot to charge individual vehicles as soon as they pull in when the state no longer allows fossil fueled vehicles! Just something to think about..

The electric ford transit connect has a range of about 80 miles per charge. And it doesn't even have fast charging capability. It has been available in the UK since 2015

Can you imagine travelling long distance then waiting at a charging station in the heat or cold for an hr while it charges? I can’t. Not to mention the added time it’ll take to get where your going. They said on a normal home charge it can take an hr to get 2-5 miles of travel. If your car has a range of 250 miles that’s a lot of hrs charging. In my opinion at this point you can stick the plug where the sun don’t shine.

Its ok that Tesla is not sharing there charging stations (for now) so that other companies would force to make quality charging station which helps accelerate the death of range anxiety (because there’s more charging stations)

When it's 30 below in the winter here in Canada the last thing I want to do is stand out in the cold for 20-30 waiting for a battery to charge and at those temps the battery is going to useless in milage. Gas is here to stay for quite some time.

I have a Model 3 and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. The charging network in the UK isn’t the best but I’ve had no issues relating to never having enough charge to get where I need to.

They should make roads as wireless chargers and with solar panels along the sides. No worries about finding a station, waiting for a charge, or very long trips. This obviously would cost a ton for the infrastructure though, but if phones can charge wirelessly then cars should be able to also. Starting with major highways should be first so that long range trips are viable and then work on secondary routes.

The biggest problem for people who dont own a garage is to have to spend 30mins just to charge the car. It is creating an extra chore for driving. Adding gas is so convenient and fast, you dont need to put it into consideration. Now you have to plan a time slot just to fuel the car.

Hmm, what about the lithium battery waste when all these cars get junked...that’s the scary part!

As a 2020 Tesla Performance Model Y owner using Tesla's Gen 3 Wall Connector (Level 2) at home, I receive over 40 miles per hour on an 60 amp circuit providing 48 amps. At the 3:51 min mark on your video, you state that you receive 10-20 miles per 1-hour of charge with a 240 volt level 2 charger. Level 2 charging can provide a wide range of charging (miles per hr) depending on the amount of amperage you're providing (30, 40, 50, 60) as I stated above. At the 3:58 min mark on the video, you explain that level 3 chargers can provide 60-80 miles of range in roughly 20 minutes. Tesla's new V3 Superchargers can provide 75 miles of range in 5 minutes or 1,000 miles per hour which was stated on Tesla's website on March 6, 2019. I think you should differentiate between Tesla's Supercharger infrastructure and 3rd party charging stations. Thank you!

These consumers that can't figure out how to charge the EV are a bit slow . If you can figure out how to charge your phone you can charge your EV.

One argument you don't hear much is the amount of effort it takes to get petrol to the pump. There's the intial extraction, delivery to refinery, refining process, delivery to central storage, from there to petrol station and finally into your car. All along this process a lot of electricity and diesel is being being burned before it even gets to your car. Then your car starts putting out Co2

A lot of folks talk about how Range anxiety isn't a thing since every EV owner charges at home. But the video brings up a very important point, not everyone lives in a house. Apartment dwellers are out of luck for slow charging over night as apartment buildings and complexes do not offer any plug-in option. So the wide infrastructure is critical for getting renters to buy in. Grocery stores, gas stations, parks, offices, restaurants. and places where longer term parking occurs are critical.
