I’ve just got back from Bangkok and visited Edelweiss on Chris’s recommendation. I not only got my implant done there (which I was incredibly happy with) the money I saved gave me a free trip around the Mae Hong Son loop, motorcycle rental, three day in Phuket and a week in Railay Sand & Sea resort. Plus all the accommodation and food free with the money I saved ❤. Back home I would have paid $8000 nzd in Bangkok I paid $2500 nzd (for removal of broken tooth, pain relief, same day implant, temp crown and ct scan and received better care than I would have back home). Can’t thank you enough Chris. It was an awesome adventure 🤙
We have a house in Thailand so it’s really cheap to stay! The dentist bill was $500. I wish we would have watched your videos a year earlier. My younger son had $15k done with insurance cost me $8500 out of pocket. Now we know. Fly to Thailand. Not sure if you have don’t a medical video. Cosmetic Surgery?! Lipo
Implant in Canada $6500, same implant in Hua Hin from the top dentist $1300, 5 fillings in Hua Hin $320 CAD, in Canada over $2,000 including panoramic X-Ray, X-Ray was free in Hua Hin, included in the $320 for 5 fillings.
I wish you can compare things by price but sadly you can not. You are not buying a certain model of car and shopping around it does not work that way witg healthcare.
Dentists in Canada are shaking in their boots. I read articles here recently warning about "shoddy" dental work in "developing" countries. Thanks for showing the other side of the debate!
Since may there is free dental coverage for seniors in Canada, cover everything except implants and bridges, I choose to fix my lower front teeth using bridges, in manila Philippines I fund a dentist and lab clinic together, they charged me 2,500 pesos=45 dollars a piece x 6 pieces=275 us dollars. That was last year, 3 weeks ego I return to Manila and I fix my front upper teeths, was 9 pieces in two parts, cost me 410 US dollars. In CAnada will cost me minimum 10 thousand C.dollars
I went to the dentist in Bangkok for a cleaning and check up plus a new night guard. it was the best experience I have ever had at a dentist in my life. Super smooth, everything was done in a day, including the night guard. I'm still using it, it works great. Cleaning and checkup was $55 CAD and guard was $140.
Awesome video and info! I had a tooth pulled and implant put in over two trips in Bangkok. I saved over $2500 and it was all amazing. Those trips as well as your videos have me on track to move there next year!
that dental office looks really high end. You can probably even find a cheaper price if you shop around. Also, in foreign countries, foreigners tend to pay more than the locals do. It's always smart to ask a Thai local like gf to take you to where they get their dental work done.
they charge the same for everyone there is a price listing in Thai and English. These are pros better then western dentists that most middle class in US can afford ang million times better then any western nations with 'free' dental service.
Hello Chris, Thanks for your video. I’m on three weeks vacation in Udon Thani, as I do twice a year. I was thinking about getting a crown and a teeth clean. After watching the video, I’ve now made an appointment for tomorrow evening at Edelweiss. Thanks Bruce
Wow! Thanks for video!!! I’m going to do implants there and whitening mine. Have appointment soon here in Sweden, but I will consider your place now. 🙏👍
Hi Chris, being a regular viewer of your highly entertaining and informative Vlog, my only comment would be to keep up being the beacon for thousands of tourists and residents to obtain the content you so skillfully provide. I have watched your VLOG related to medical coverage and signed up with safety wing. However, as German I like to comment on your pronunciation of EDELWEISS - 😂 it has nothing to do with “idling”. The E is as in “emperor” or “emirates” That being said 😂, I have made the step to move to Southeast Asia (Philippines) about 10 years ago, my only regret is not having come here earlier. Keep up the terrific work Whenever life takes you to the Philippines - be our guest, we would welcome you in our house .. All the best Manfred
Greetings Chris, YOU ROCK! Another amazing video on Dental Care in Thailand, what saving, off of this planet. Thailand is amazing on many levels. Surely you are enjoying your new location there in Ko Samui Thailand. I have watched all of your content and I still love the Light Switch video, its my favorite. Great episode, thanks for sharing mate.
I must say, I am impressed with what I see with the Dentist you just reviewed! Here is Australia it would cost 10 times more to have the same dental work carried out .
Hi Chris, I am married to a thai woman ❤ ... we've been together coming up on 17 years living in the USA. We have tried to find good dental care for her on my insurance over the years and have spent many thousands in copays only to get average or even poor care. We finally decided she should be flying back home to Thailand where she has been getting tons of major dental work done over the past year (a couple trips). I am PISSED how dentists and endodontists in the US have botched and overcharged her care. Can't wait to retire in Thailand! I hope Haley likes your teeth! (don't know Korean so not sure how to spell her name 555)
I have been going to Thai dentists for fifteen years, and yes the treatment and their equipment is world-class, and much cheaper than here in Australia. Unfortunately for family reasons, I haven't been able to visit for a few years. Recently, I was told I need a 10yo bridge replaced but they may not be able to save the tooth, and if so I would need two implants. They quoted AUD$14,489 for that including a bone graft. I sent the treatment plan and scan to my Phuket dentist, who quoted AUD$7338 for the same work. Implants need two visits six months apart. Adding up air fares, accommodation and walking about money for two people makes it slightly more expensive to go to Thailand. However, I have some other non-urgent work that could be done on either of those trips, so it looks like I have no other choice but to take two holidays in Thailand!😁
Thanks Chris. I went to this clinic last month with Doctor Mint. It took less than 10mins stroll from Terminal 21, pics and window shopping along the way. Did not feel any pain after that numbing gel which I loved.
I had dental work done in BKK 11 years ago. Was amazing bedside manner like he said, and when you also can save thus much money it's a no brainer. Wish I could live in Thailand love the island life.
Great advice Chris. Whilst I do not yet need implants to replace my crowns, i know I will at some point in the next few years. I will definitely use this place when needed. In fact on my next trip in Jan, I’ll book a check up and clean just so I’m on their books
Chipped my front tooth in 2023 , got it fixed for $34.45 usd on Sukhumvit near Thoung Lo BTS …. Can’t beat that price. My dentist in the USA ( SF Bay Area ) wanted $900
I'm in Canada and I was wondering if it was worth it but let me tell you my story and the price here in Canada. I needed 1 implant so the first part was the bone graft and the implant itself so this part was 2500 CND so 1850 USD. They have to let the implant heal for 2 months and after that they find out that the implant didn't stick well so they did it again for free (warranty). The next part is the crown, so this part was 2800 CND so 2075 USD and they used the same 3D tools, etc. Total cost was 5300 CND so 3925 USD for 1 implant but it took 9 months overall to let the surgery heal, the replacement of the implant at first time and the crown. I think that US dentist may be more expensive then Thai dentiste but Canadian dentists are probably more affordable and the fact that it took 9 months, I'm glad to have choose to do it in Canada.
I hear a lot about medical & dental tourism but one of my friends that lives local to me in Phuket recently had a full set of implants and flew to Turkey as he got a much better deal there including the flights and accommodation
Absolutely fantastic video just what I was wanting to watch after sending my X-rays to a Bangkok dentist this week. Will definitely be coming from Australia to have my dental work done. Your teeth look great I am a smoker too. Gee the dental clinics look so far advanced to Australia 😊
It seems like a pretty good rule of thumb that US costs for dental are about 5x Bangkok. That's true whether for basic cleaning/checkup or more advanced procedures.
I walked in off the street to a dentist in Isaan. I was in the chair within 15 minutes to have a filling done. It was all very clean and professional. The total cost was 800 baht. In my home country this would have cost me 8000 baht
I find it strange that this can be done in a few weeks. The concensus is that this takes months. This is what my dentist told me; The dentist will place the implant posts in the jawbone. The healing time will take 3-6 months. After the implants have healed, the patient will need to return to the dentist to have the abutments (connecting pieces) placed on the implants. The healing period will take around 1-2 weeks.1 I am pretty sure , if you do this in a few weeks, like in this video, that you will get problems in the future.
That's what I found out all the dentist's I spoke to sad the same 3-6 month healing time I am halfway with my 3 on 6 got it done in Istambul not happy I think I'll get a second opinion from this people 😊
I live near Mahasarakham sux months a year and get all of my dental, vision and yearly bloodwork (just preventive care, Im healthy) done. No complaints, and I save a boat load of money.
There´s good dentists everywhere in Thailand, i stayed in Phathalung for a few years and the dentist i had there was fantastic and probably half price from Bangkok.... then again i been to a few bad ones as well :) Never tried Edelweiss, maybe next time im in the city. The last times i´ve been to Dentalista, they are pretty good and affordable.. got clinics at Phrom Pong and Phra Khanong. Thanks for another great vid :)
It was cheaper for my brother and his wife to fly to turkey have a holiday thi had a bad dentist I will definitely get implants in thiland all u have to do is look at all the smiles u get in thiland &c there brilliant teeth 🦷 😊😊
Great video. Food for thought. I just had a 3 tooth bridge done in Australia. One immediate implant and one delayed implant, 2 teeth had to be extracted. Then after 6 months the bridge had to be placed. Due to my anxiety this was all done, except the placement of the bridge, under general anaesthetic costing a total of $17,000aud with only $2,000aud back on private health. I have a few more that need doing but I really need it done under GA.
Thailand is superb for dental work. No dental hygienist. Real dentist do the cleaning and additional work. The dental "industry" is around 70%+ women. 👌
Great Chris as always followed for long time now and learned utube from you. Great dentist...yes they look white shade and be careful sunlight...lol hello security. Enjoy Samui
Going through their website and comparing the prices to my dentist in Australia, it’s almost the same for a lot. The prices are great for perhaps people from america and Europe. We have very good proactive dental care in Australia. I found in Europe it’s very reactive and a minor fix isn’t done until it’s a major fix.
I just had an implant done a month ago here in the Silicon Valley, California, one of the most expensive place to live in the US. All and all, it costed me $6000.
$15000 for one tooth in Texas? I just had a single implant done for $3100 in Florida. It included everything. Bone graft, ct scan, tooth extraction etc. Whoever that dentist is in Dallas should be arrested!
The one area where Thailand wins for me is time saving. Could you imagine an absessed failed root canal causing extreme pain and being told you have to wait 3 months to get it repaired by a specialist dentist, yeah sure I could have removed the tooth, but it was an important tooth. Anyway, the cost was not the reason, in my case, $2500 for the specialist and that was around 10 years ago, but the wait! Booked my ticket to Thailand the following week, landed in Bangkok the next day, and all done! It's worth every bit of the $500 it cost me plus the airfare as a side effect. I got a 2 week holiday! Implants are complicated as implants can not be done as a holiday procedure, minimum 3 months between the screw and final placement. In my case, 3 Implants done, then over a year later, the second visit to get them finished. So add that to the cost of having Implants done in Thailand.
It's like anything you buy in the world, hype, and price vs. value and made in China. I am sure you can spend a lot on a tooth if you want the product made in Switzerland, thinking it's worth 2-3x the price of the implant that is made in Korea or China, at the end of the day both are made of titanium, both will outlast your life, same with the crown part, for me I chose the cheap but strong crown while others may want the most expensive that is made with real gold. $15k yeah, probably not that much, but $10k for sure with the best or at least most expensive implants and the most expensive crown.
I had 4 crowns done and 2 wisdom teeth taken out in Pattaya 15 years ago it cost 50,000 baht which at that time was about a £1,000. Never had a problem ever. 2 years ago I got a crown on the NHS for free, last time I got a teeth inspection they told me it needs to be done again. I'm going to Cambodia soon, I'll hopefully get it done correctly there.
I did 32 crowns on all my teeth last year in vietnam. HCM , cost was 155 million dongs. Took me a total of 9 days . Painless and very good workmanship. I would highly recommend anyone who needs to do dental work to go to hcm and do it and save your money. You get a free holidaywith it.
I live in Thailand but have gone to HCMC in Vietnam for all my dental needs. It’s cheap to get there from BKK and cheaper than Thailand too. I have had a couple of crowns replaced for 3.5m Dong each about 5000TBht. Takes only 2 days too from start to finish. Extremely modern practice and professional staff. All replacements match perfectly ….. just saying 🙏 Krup.
Thanks you so much for this video ... i do need a implant but im scared . i do visit thailand since over 15 years and i will contact this clinic on my next visit .
Great everyday, real world video that anyone considering moving over there would like. Nice job. I would like to see one about common prescription medications like for blood pressure or cholesterol. I have heard that in some countries these are considered over the counter meds that you can pick up in the drug stores; no prescript needed.
How about changing your diet I started carneval with fruit exercise most mornings walk 2-3 hours a day no sugar or processed food at the moment in Thailand I am being a bit overwhelmed with all the nice food try no meds for me non at all
@@kathyhirsch379 Thanks for the hint Doc. In the perfect world everyone would do that and if I made it to Thailand that would be a goal. But, I am trying make real world preparation based on reality and info available.
That sounds a bit expensive for 4 dental implants. I had one dental implant + bone graft done in Dental City (Los Algodones, Mexico, walking across the border from Yuma, AZ) for less than $2K, including the MRI and the panoramic xray. Plus, they used the best dental implant on the market, not the low end or medium end. I've had it for 1.5 years now, with no issues. They also have far more modern equipment compared to what is used in TX, NY, and California. Although, I do believe that today, that cost would be a bit higher now, as the Mexican Peso has gotten stronger and USD weaker, so that is important to state. Good to know they have excellent dental care there. The best part of this story is how compassion this dentist was with this man being so anxious. That compassion is worth a bit extra.
Do you know if Dental work count towards the new DVT as medical visa? Thanks for this video, I want to get an old root canal pulled that is gone bad and get an implant also just retired so want to visit Thailand.
Just got back to the hotel from Edelweiss on Soi 15 with my wife. She had 1 wisdom tooth removed, 6 fillings, x-rays (2 bitewings and one pano), and cleaning. The office was spotless and the dentist was gentle and comforting. Her bill came to 18,100 baht (512 USD).
I arrived last January, two days later I was in the chair at SmileBox, a place that Al recommended. Cleaning and check up was less than 20% of what it would cost back in Canada.
Hi Chris, great info. Thank you. Just one question. Did either of you have dental insurance from a Thai insurance company and if so, what impact did the Thai insurance have? Thank you
Sir, great information. You noted that Edelweiss has 2 locations. Are they both in Bangkok? What about payment; that is, can you pay with an American credit card? I plan a first time visit soon, but I have to figure out how to transfer money from the U.S. to Thailand for use on a regular basis and larger expenses like doctor and dental as needed. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.
I just paid $300 USD for a cleaning, x-rays and checkup here in southern California. That same procedure at Edelweiss earlier this year cost me less than $50. US dental costs are a total ripoff.
