Thanks for these videos, absolutely love these. I'd known of Vic Buckingham's West Bromwich Albion side which almost did the League and FA Cup double in 1953/54 although they were only FA Cup winners that season. Deep-lying centre forward Ronnie Allen was there best player and was a different breed of centre forward who was different to the more traditional English centre forwards type such as Ted Drake, Tommy Lawton and a modern day Alan Shearer.
Great stuff - i would love to see longer videos on all of them, but particularly Jimmy Hogan as the British simply don't appreciate how much his personal philosophy of football influenced the world
You should do a series of sevens videos on the best internationally capped players to never play for the biggest clubs in their country: E. G. Top 7 Germany internationals who’ve never played for Bayern Munich Top 7 Spain internationals who’ve never played for Real Madrid or Barcelona Top 7 Netherlands internationals who’ve never played for Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord
Love these kind of videos. Keep making them and I’m sure they will get more traction. You could make these into a podcast which may get more listeners too
Can you make a video on Sir Alf Ramsey's tactics which he used as Ipswich Town manager (they're similar to the ones he used with England) and talk about his managerial career at the club please, it's often very overlooked because because of what he achieved as England manager.
The Club Team That invented Total Attacking Football in Europe Was Scottish Giants Celtic Who Became The First British Club To Be Crowned Champions of Europe And That 1967 Celtic Team Was By Far The Greatest British Club Side of All Time, Every Player in That Great Celtic Team Which Was Ranked By Fifa As Number One in World Football Was Born Within 10 Miles Of The Stadium, A Feat That Has Never Been Matched, The Great Real Madrid Forward Said That The Celtic Winger Jimmy Johnstone Was The Greatest Ever Player That He Had Ever Seen, Just RU-vid Jimmy Johnstone Celtic.
In your longer videos could you please cover the tragic true history of the WW2 Kyiv team that played an occupying German forces team? This is the basis of Escape to Victory. It is a fascinating true story although many myths now surround the team.
Lovely stuff, thanks APH. I was familiar with Hogan and Buckingham, less so Reynolds. I suspect I know the answer to this, but have you read Inverting The Pyramid?
Fantastic. It scandalous they are not better known. Especially Buckingham , what with everyone and his dog wanking off about how amazing Barcelona are. You would have thought it would be being shouted from roof tops with how hell bent people tend to be regarding nationalism. More of this sort of content please.
Nice vid, but you can‘t say that Total Football was their idea. They set the direction for it, yes, but they didn‘t invent it. In the end, Michels and Cruyff created it, using ideas of these british men and their own influence. So Total Football should still be seen as their creation. Offensive football with fluid passing hasn‘t have to be total football, smth similar maybe. (Sry for my english)
The Ajax tactics were almost identical to the Hungary tactics of the 1950's, even down to the idea that every player should be able to play in every position. The formation was even the same, for all intents and purposes: 2-3-3-2. Ajax would start as a 4-3-3, but Cruyff would drop deep from the striker role, Muhren and Haan would push forward from central midfield to get close to Cruyff, and the full backs would push forward towards midfield to fill the space left behind by Muhren and Haan, creating the same 2-3-3-2 that Hungary used. The only difference was that Ajax focused more on possession, which was a concept that the Italians had dominated with for the previous decade (albeit with a far more defensive, containing style). Michels and Cruyff didn't actually implement anything particularly new on the pitch. Cruyff's role was almost identical to that of Hidegkuti from 15 years before. Rinus Michels even played under Jimmy Hogan, who was the one who introduced the concept to the Hungarians. I'm not sure that it's correct to suggest that Michels invented anything, to be quite honest.
Both great Jack reynolds and pep failed as players in man city. Ironic. And one start the Total Footbal and another one evolve it and finally end it in Mancity
Is The Same Like A JACK REYNOLDS, VIC BUCKINGHAM, FRANTISEK FADHRONC, MATTHIAS SINDELAR, GUSZTAV SEBES, STEFAN KOVACS, JIMMY HOGAN, ERNST HAPPEL, RINUS MICHELS, JOHAN CRUYFF, FRANK RIJKAARD, VAN MARWIJK, VAN BASTEN, VAN GAAL, KOEMAN, HIDDINK, GULLIT, TEN HAG, BLIND, COCU, And SLOT.
I'm not sure why Vic Buckingham is included in this video. All he did was copy what the Hungarians Sebes and Guttmann made famous. I love that you've included Jimmy Hogan for his incredible influence on Hungarian football, and Jack Reynolds for laying the foundations at Ajax, but I find the Buckingham inclusion baffling, even if he was influential at Ajax. The Ajax team of the 70's simply added possession to the old Magyar tactics, nothing more, which is what Reynolds brought in decades before anyway.
You contradict yourself in so much as you say he was influential at Ajax, as a man he found credit for anything he did at Ajax hard to justify and publically gave credit to Reynolds who went before him, VB was way ahead of his time in football philosophy and ultimately negotiated with the Spanish FA, whilst Barca Coach that they should allow foreign players to be able to play in Spain, when it was not allowed, he's godfather to one of Johann's children, says it all really, plus he was a true gent, and I KNOW
