It was not a surprise to me lol... Since I bought the R5C I have been looking at Canon from a totally different lens. 😅 The way the R5C changed my confidence and passion for creating was mind-blowing. I'm still revving on all cylinders and love to learn about this new camera tech

What did you have before? What do you enjoy about the R5C? :)
@PizzlesTechTime

@@sebfleebee I had the GH5 from Panasonic and it had amazing Ibis and it was really easy to use. The OS was simple yet detailed. The only thing I didn't like is Panasonic tries to make you buy V-LOG on that camera. It really didn't offer too much value so I never purchased it. Now I try to shoot in c log 2 on the C70 and clog 3 on the R5C. If I shoot in super 35 on the C70 I can use the raw easier without running through a terabyte every video in 8K. The dual base ISO on the R5C is a game changer for shooting indoors and the full frame field of view with the wide angle lens is amazing for overhead shots. I really didn't know what I was missing with full frame. The only thing that is bothering me about the C70. I got the focal reducer and a few old lenses until I figure out long-term. Probably will end up with a better EF lens for use on the c70 for A cam. Canon has amazing colors and I love the image from R5C as it relates to noise and quality. I still have a lot of testing to do with the C70 but just having the ND filters in the longer battery life is a huge game changer. I can only imagine if I had gotten a full frame cinema camera!!!

Telling someone who's waiting for a photo first, hybrid R5II to think about getting a c400 instead seems a little like a stretch. These cameras do not have even 1 similar feature which means they are for 2 totally different groups of people. The c400 are for people who've outgrown their c70 and need more. Or for people who want a B cam to their C500. Or for Komodo owners who want something more practical and versatile. But you are right about the R5 photo features... I don't need anything else from my R5 except for better dynamic range, better white balance and slightly better AF in photo mode. Basically, if they unlocked the R5 features like they did in the R5c without that terrible fan i would be happy.

I'm just hoping that this somehow brings down the price of the c70😅
@PizzlesTechTime
@PizzlesTechTime 2 месяца назад
I think 4,999 US dollars is going to be the lowest price. The C70 is $3,000 less than the c400 and it has more dynamic range. People will still be buying the C70 and Canon knows that

Yea I still hold the C70 in higher regard...but same lol!

I think the R5 mk II is just going to be a minor update really, mostly quality of life stuff rather than a leap forward, matching the Nikon Z8 at a lower price: - no mechanical shutter - better IBIS with less wobble - automatic subject detection AF - two USB-C ports, full size HDMI - breathing compensation, false color, and hopefully a good remote control app.

It's hard to know before an official announcement, but none of the rumors have gotten me that excited. I guess we'll wait and see. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!

Since you asked for some viewer perspectives.. Yes I'm really tempted by the C400. My situation: started my production company about 1.5 years ago, started in luxury real estate but currently firing my clients on that side of things to focus on commercial, docu and narrative work ideally as DP/handling the entire production, but also going to grab any gig I can get as crew. I have the R5C as my main cam right now and no B-Cam to speak of for video besides my ancient 5DmkII and some action cam/360 cam stuff. Getting the C400 as my main cam and keeping R5C for B-Cam seems to make a lot of sense but I'm still torn with just getting something cheaper like the Pyxis or a used Canon Cine body, because the truth is in terms of image I could get there with much cheaper solutions. The C400 does seem like the only realistic option to get into a Cine body full time without going used, and used in my market is terrible people sell very close to new price and don't mind not selling, I usually get the same price new thanks to getting the tax back. Only on really older cine bodies you can find some deals. I also did lock myself in a bit with the purchase of a 15-35mm 2.8 RF which is my bread and butter lens on my R5C, the rest is EF but also going to be looking at either 24-105 f2.8 or a set of cine primes...

That really sounds like an interesting situation, and exactly the kind of position I think a lot of people will find themselves in with the C400. I think the full frame combo of the R5C and the C400, would be really nice, though. Thanks for the comment and good luck on the decision!

The funny thing about the R5C to me is for photos it is a 99 out of 100, but using it as a cinema camera has a lot of downsides. I ended up getting a C70 last month and I knew Cannon was dropping a lot of cameras this year.

I like the cinema OS in the C70 and R5C, so I would prefer the C400 unless they use it on the video side in the R5 mark II, too, but that doesn’t seem likely

I like the Cinema OS, I just wish Canon would fully adapt it to the Canon R5C body. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!

Love your videos...but it's a miss on this one. If you're a filmmaker who is in the market for an $8,000 cinema camera, a $4,000 hybrid photo-first mirrorless camera isn't going to sway your decision one way or the other. It's not like choosing between the R5C or paying an extra $1500 or so for the C70, which has a lot of features in common. These are two completely different cameras for two completely different audiences..
@DeafDirector
@DeafDirector 2 месяца назад
That's a really good point, and one I really thought about when making this video. But in the end, I figured if you were investing over $4K in upping your video game, that extra money would be a stretch but not completely unattainable for your business, and might be worth the investment. But all things considered, I'd say there are going to be a lot of people who agree with you on this, and think I'm completely off my rocker for even suggesting it. Thanks for the comment and I hope you have a great day!

Seriously c400 is very cheap considering sony fx9 costs 3 grands more when it was first released and only gives u dci 4k recording even though it has a 6k sensor. Canon is late into the game and has been hit hard by fx6. Many folks r heavily invested in sony ecosystems and not many will change ship even with c400. Sony needs to flop in order for that to happen. Just like how canon flopped and let sony overtook.

If you're swayed by popularity contests, then go with Sony and don't even discuss the merits of Red, Arri, Canon, Blackmagic, which are all arguably better cameras than Sony as far as picture quality.

The C400 + R1 would be so awesome... 24MP and 26MP would match well now that they have C-log 2 also. And then you have a photo camera for photo and a b cam for video... But right now my setup is R3, R5C for photo and two C70 cameras for video... and that DGO sensor.. uhhh its really nice. and funny enoght C70 match well with another C70 :P

There are a lots of things for photography that r5 needs and for example r6 mark ii has! Like choosing or locking eye af to specific eye! Like transparent flash group menu over image for trigger control. R5 has very weak face and eye af for photos when using 6-10 ev ND filter if you don't want to shoot hss but in x-sync. in r6 mk ii nd just doesn't make a difference (I'm talking about 6stops ND with RF85L and full body shoots) I have r5 and r6 mk ii and I just stoped using r5 for photos because of that. I could write whole day about what R5 mark II needs to have for photos that other cameras have... did i mention global shutter for my ad1200 pro?!

I have kind of niche -question. I own the C70 and the R6ii and do TV run and gun work. The R6ii has great downsampled lowlight and a great looking but only 8bit 4k 50p. I got the R5ii now for the 4k 100p and better codecs but I shocked about the lowlight capabilities. If you had the C70 and R6ii and the chance to replace one of them - would you get the C400 for the C70 or the R5ii for the R6ii?

The c400 certainly has some great features and looks promising. I'd like to try grading some test footage to see how it compares with the R5C before any consideration of buying it.

I have an R5 and It has terrible DR = 10.8 stops. I want the R5II to have at least 12.4 stops like every other camera brand plus 4k60H and FHDHQ like the R5c, no record limit and absolutely no overheating. Hopefully it will have Clog 2 and and 2 base ISOs. Canon needs to learn how to make small fans like Sony and Panasonic instead of the big ugly fan on the R5c.

I have a C70 and R5C and am really looking forward to the C400. The R5ii was never really all that exciting for me.. would be more interested in an R5Cii (or at least if the R5ii just came naturally with Cinema OS).. though even that.. idk. The R5C is an imperfect camera.. but the only real issue I have with it is battery life, and I already have solutions that I've been working with it for 2 years and I'm fine with the workflow. It would feel difficult for me to spend thousands just so I can move away from a battery solution that honestly I'm fine with.. and what.. C-Log 2 maybe? Not worth the trouble. Jumping from the C70 to C400 though seems like something I'd be more willing to do. I'd honestly probably prefer a full-frame C70 successor so I can keep the smaller body (and would be great if they could add just one SDI port), but having a full-frame RF cinema body would be a game changer for me in a lot of ways. Being able to normalize my lens lineup, and not have to worry about a crop here, and speedbooster there, etc. would be huge.

I guess the R5 MKII will also come with 3x base ISO, and hopefully, with 15 steps DR. But it doesn't look like if there will be an internal ND filter in it. As a hobby videocreator, I won't get the C400 (too big, too heavy, and too expensive), I hope the animal-AF from the C400 will find its way also to the existing R5C (this is my main issue with the R5C). The second issue with the R5C is the missing IBIS when shooting with the 100-500mm, and shooting birds with a C400 and 500mm would make no sense for me. So it looks like if I'll get the R5 MKII. Now the C70 MKII will probably be a 6K 120fps (because I think readout from a 35mm could be easier than from an FF). I won't get a C70 MKII because I prefer FF with my lenses and because it probably won't have IBIS. If there will be an announcement of an R5C MKII with internal ND, then this would probably be my pick, even if it won't have IBIS, and 100% if it will have also IBIS.

Hey brother, thanks for the video. Yeah, considering how long it’s been since Canon put out a new cinema camera. This one’s lunch bag letdown there should be a electronic variable in D. The audio should be 32 float built-in my gosh they can cram that into a little zoom recorder, they can certainly do something with it in Cinema camera the size of that brick and the fact that they’re auto focus still doesn’t come anywhere near Sony’s. Would I bother I can use an FX three and get amazing footage even up to 120 frames per second. I got a nice tiny package that I can put on a gimbal that doesn’t weigh 300 pounds that my arms are falling off by the end of the day trying to use it on a gimbal the things just too big, it’s classic canon. They’re still living in the 90s.
