They should have implemented an alternative start position selection for the changeling. 1 start position for eash area he has a grand scheme in. This would give more replay and variety.

Changeling is a shit experience if you're looking to play Total War conventionally, yeah, but I firmly believe you're not supposed to. He doesn't have a failstate by design, which is the most immediate difference. Changeling, at least as how he's designed suggests to me, is about causing chaos for the other factions and being able to get away with it almost every time becuse of the enormous power he commands right out of the gate. To counterbalance that, he can't raze settlements or wipe a faction off the map directly. He destablizes the world and goes from place to place pulling strings and getting the outcome he wants from other factions' conflicts, whether its supporting X with symbiotic camps or sabotaging Y with parasitic camps. Approaching it with an angle of optimization and just doing "what's best for the changeling" is redundant because his faction can't die and he's never under threat anyway. It misses the point of the campaign, which is to fuck around and have fun, mostly. You already won by selecting Changeling, so just have the fun. Novelty for sure, but approaching it like he's any other TW experience is square peg round hole. I was easily able to go 200 turns on his campaign and ended up pulling strings with the EGC to let the Chaos Dwarves paint the map and completed the schemes.

I wish that they gave us undercity battles with unique settlements for skaven and cults so that instead of it just being a quick button that you press, you can actually garrison and fight undercity battles, this would make it so that they can nerf the discoverability so that the chance at actually losing a campaign as changeling goes down because now you have to consider if this new undercity will be sustainable and if you can fight off the enemy faction if you get found out

Changeling is fun if you RP as protecting the empire, and support the Order factions in The Empire/Cathay. Makes it hard lol

I literally made a campaign without purchasing any units or using the Changeling. I just spread cults and buildings. When I had enough, I spawned 200+ armies and razed the 272 settlements in 3 turns. On legendary, with ultimate scenario, and that is no challenge at all cause you dont lose😂

ma' boi Daniel made Ku'gath his lapdog. I'm so proud of him. (Literally in first 3 minutes you could see Ku'gath owned by Legions of Chaos. Prob from "recruit defeated LL")

There's nothing new about that. Previous reworks, such as Beastmen and WoC one also stripped respective factions out of any risk, by giving them only pros but no cons, or removing existing cons. There's never gonna be DLC like Tomb Kings, which has like the best balance between fun gameplay, complexity and mechanics that require the player to put in effort for the best gain. I personally blame Prophet & Warlock for this. The tendency started from that point. They didn't finish Tehenhauin's part, despite it having even greater potential. And they they saw people drooling over Ikit, which, outside free rework of the skaven undercities, was pretty much just a nuke and OP upgrades that pushed already powerful units to the absurd level. And hating Tehenhauin's campaign which was much more challenging. And decided that structuring future gameplay around simply giving new LLs OP trinkets and buffs with minimal chances of backfiring is the best way to go.

The changlings implementation in this game just proves he should have been a LH… not a LL. Leave the cult building to Horstmann, make the Changling the paid LL and the scribes the FLC hero. Would have been perfect. The heralds as FLC heroes for each dlc would have been perfect way to herald the update/dlc arrival

All his schemes are bugged raging from battle against AI that do not count, conditions being blocked or being removed, enemies being able to do his schemes. There is also no reason to build parasitic buildings in his campaing they generate less revenue and supplies in the end. Also since corruption and PO have not being reworked it is pointless to spread to try and caused havoc in the campaing map apart from transfering settlements.
@elegantoddity8609

I think the changeling is a massive flag that the cult and hidden settlement mechanics on the whole need a big update. Because on one hand, chaos and the vampirates need theirs expanded in terms of building options, since right now theyre underwhelming. Always thought it was weird that only Slaanesh cultists can spread cults; felt like only letting Slaanesh do diplomacy with non chaos, a short term fix at best. On the other hand, the ability to *root out cults* also needs to be expanded. Looking at you witch hunters. Like, witch hunters and patriarchs and death hags and whoever else as appropriate, whoevers responsible for corruption in their faction, should have a 15 turn cooldown to just checking if there is a cult building. Also on the changeling specifically, razing the settlement should destroy the cult. This is stupid otherwise.

Well at least I'm not missing out on anything. That's sad for this campaign because the premise of pulling off a bunch of schemes sounds interesting enough. Too bad the _changeling_ is so static.

developers not knowing how to play their own games in teaser trailers is nothing new. I remember a dev video for a new map pack for mw2 and the dev was using the starter class. they could not even be bothered to get a rank 50 press account.

CA always have the habit of trying to sell DLC by making the facions/lords overpowered, not fun. the Chorfs were a nice expection, because while they WERE overpowered, you had to use their mechanics and playing tall to then steamroll the map. With the Changeling it just feel like playing in observer mode and use cheats to alter the map as you desire.

Didn't expect the rant at the end about CA players, reminded me of those D4 devs that also could barelly play it. Well I enjoyed your rant. :D Yea... I was looking forward for changeling DLC and it seemed only interesting thing in Shadow of Change, I just didn't buy it because of the price. Now I can't believe how much dissapointing it seems, not being able to lose didn't seem like big deal to me, but I expected him to be weak in battle. So you could get in a circle of not beying able to recover, but that was before I knew he can just recruit elite armies, I expected Chaos Dwarf system perhaps, where he unlocks units, or even he is forced to use weak units of other living faction as a "troll" he is. Perhaps being invibisble to AI should only apply up to his first battle for him to allow to actually recruit army. Changelling just felt like it had so much more potential.

The problem with ca is, that the people that cared about gaming left after ca got a ceo that only care about money. So they dont play there own game. They just think about money and how to get 150% more money.

I think they messed up with not making a rogue lord similar to Oxyoltl to be some type of direct counter mechanic and spotter of the changling. Yaun bo does shit all, Karl Franz and even Kislev do a better job as sniffing changeling out- but his biggest problem is he just doesn't have a contender to slow them down. Taurox and Oxyotl definitely didn't really 'counter' each other but both had such a unique playstyle and the 'cost' wasn't anywhere near what this is. They probably should've made some sort of Slanesh or order legendary lord that has a mechanic to draw attention to the changling such as the Slannesh hero throwing elaborate parties and manageries that bolster trade and lords to visit once they do they slowly become afflicted to stay for a few turns and after those turns they will corrupt into slaneshy units~exempt are Legendary lords or something and can rescue partying units. Obviously the Slaneeshy unit probably will get the best parties when trashing or exposing underling cities.

I guess this is the campaign where I finally get my L/VH achievement :x That said I understand your concern there and it's an old truth that the DEV's don't necessarily need to be good, or even competent at their own game :x (you actually have that quite a bit in several games where the DEV's don't even know half the shit players can and will do to win even if it's only little life hacks here and there) Also just saying about the Realm of Chaos campaign. I only really have 2 misgivings (okay can count them as 3) 1 and 2 being the Realm of Tzeentch and Slaanesh which are just waiting games, you use a Portal, you wait, you use a portal, you wait and nothing really happening in between, it's literally a Turn Tax on your LL to be away from the outside world. Nurgle and Khorne Realm are fine, including the extra rewards you can get there, NOBODY would ever get the Slaanesh Rewards for example. And the other thing is that you can't beat the game before turn 120 or 150 even because you HAVE to wait for Urson to roar and there are no means to attack and steal souls from the other Faction who got them to speed up the game. Everything else is fine in my view ^^

It killed me how in the narriation for the marketing video the narriator says he sends an agent to damage a building in order to stop the enemy from recruiting XD, long gone are the days CA hired peoplee who liked and gave a shit about TW like Darren was... The marketing videos try to paint a picture that doesn't exist, in their mind sieges are what they are supposed to be not what they are, In their mind, you do need to siege for lengthier time and prepare so you won't take much casualties, in their mind sieges are risky for the attacker ... and this is how they wanna sell it. Making everyone has ASS LADDER and Siege Attackers made this game so easy.

Christ, I figured I'd at least _try_ to give the Changeling a fair shake before ToD drops, but good lord this campaign is one massive, pointless slog interspersed with small moments of idiotic design that seems almost laser-engineered to be obnoxious specifically for a Tzeentch faction by way of a couple of the Quest Battles. Man, this DLC was and still is such a mess, even beyond the corporate fuckery that lead to it. This is just bad content, flat-out.
@Crucial_End

The entire DLC seems like CA just went "would't it be cool if xxx" and then just went with every idea that they could think of. The worst part is that they did nothing really to solve the problems the base factions has despite clearly being aware of them because they "fixed" it for the new factions but completely ignored the base ones. This DLC is a complete disaster from the price to implementation and content. As for this particular campaign they completely dropped the ball. Being stealthy and scheming in games is only fun because being detected or otherwise failing is devastating and gets you killed so there is a risk vs reward gameplay but that is entirely lacking here. Also making an already extremely powerful faction like this get absurd power level awards like those trickster rewards is just baffling. Its as if no one on the entire team even had a hint of game design theory knowledge. I would like to see them try to remedy this but I just cant see how that could be done in a good way and I dont even think CA would know where to begin as they clearly saw nothing wrong with it in the first place and Im not sure they even understand after being told by critics either. I hope they fix the base factions atleast and moves on to not screw up ToD but I wont hold my breath on that.

Personally, I like the Changeling's campaign. You're not hampered by the climate mechanic, and you don't get frustrated if your army dies because it doesn't mean you'll lose a big chunk of territory if that happens. [insert oh no, anyway meme.] Most other campaign I play, if my main army happens to die to some bs (like AI having 2 extra armies exactly at the edge of my sightlines somehow) I just kind of quit because it doesn't feel like my fault that my entire momentum gets killed and I get set back a province or two while building a new army. With the Changeling I simply don't have to care. It is a nice change of pace for me but I do get why some people won't like it. And I also think that some of those grand scheme rewards should have a bit more impact. The empire one doesn't matter if all the empire provinces died or got confederated already for example.
