It's completely different. Digital storefronts changed everything and it's about to change again because the console market hasn't grown despite the games industry doubling in size. The days of the traditional console are numbered. Except for nintendo.

I remember the legendary Black Friday megathreads over on CAG back in the day. Before even "cyber monday" was even a thing, I would take a picture with my digital camera, again, even before everyone had a smartphone. And post my haul on IGN forums. Good times.

I heard of CAG from back in the day...I am a middle aged guy and back in the early 2000s and mid 2000s guys like him where we many went to find good finds and discounted media. Now its 500 m people doing it, but then it was only a few content creators and major media outlets...like G4, ign, etc...I feel bad bc guys like him either had to adapt or close up shop...Been enjoying this video as a strole down memory lane...thanks Destin keep up the good, hard work and great content.

Holy shit I love CheapyD, I was on the CAG forums daily in the Xbox 360 era buying tons of games on Steam, I'd listen to his podcast a lot too when I worked on the road with Cheapy and Wombat. CAGS ON NEWS theme still lives in my head, Shaqfu'ing the industry. Cheapy also seemingly hasn't aged which is alarming.

Great video @DestinL I did really enjoy your interviews. Am 44 and i agree that the industry has change not exactly for the better. I work 3 days 4 days of alternating the 3 days every 3 weeks. I do have time to play now. But not a year and a half ago. I hate games that makes me feel like its a second job. Lately am enjoying a lot of indies that lets you have FUN. BROTATO, Risk of Rain. Vampire Survivors, I still enjoy going back to Minecraft every now and then. I do miss the Grears franchise, I do jump on Halo Infinite every other day. This companies forgot what video games are about. Is for having FUN and escape from stress or from a really bad day. Why they see kids or us gamers as just a $?

On Xbox One, loading a Aliens Dark Descent save was like 20%...30%...35%...if I clicked the wrong save, it was like oh no...I gotta wait for the wrong save to load, then wait again for the right save. Now that I transfered the game data over to Series X, the save load time is 10%, 45%, 85%, DONE 🙂. I'm a perfectionist in squad type strategy games, get everyone out alive. Except for like Advance Wars 1+2, where it's just not possible 😂. In fact, you might have to sacrifice units at choke points, to win a level. But in Aliens, I can get the whole squad out alive. One get killed, reload. What a change having a quick save load.

Cheapy was a big name back in the day when we were doing Hard News and is a great guy. He's kept it going 20 years.

@@DestinL Ah... Now that I think about it, I shouldn't be surprised about not hearing about him up until now. I grew up gaming, but I didn't grow up in the culture of gaming. So I wasn't keeping up with gaming news and such. I didn't start doing that until I was an adult; heck, not until *after* I got married. Sooo... 27? 28 years old? Would have been back in 2013 or 2014 when I started following gaming news and keeping up with the latest information on upcoming games and such. So, I see how I missed him.

Battle Royale sucks. I'm sorry, but it's boring af. It's fine to make it an option, but Halo doesn't need to focus on it in a mainline game. Make a standalone Halo BR (not made by 343/MS) and make a classic style Halo (not made by 343/MS). Halo is known for it's variety in gametypes. If you want a BR, make it separate and give us a damn classic style mainline game (with zero input, management, or attachment whatsoever from 343/MS).

I’m curious how Destin feels about the audience he’s garnering. Angry, whiny gamers who want him to take on the “woke agenda”. Destin seems like a normal, decent dude but his comment section and live chats are always full of negativity and a desperate need for him to speak up and make a stance for the right wing talking points. I appreciate when I see him ban racists live or avoid joining in with the Elon sycophants on their tirades. But wonder how he feels about his audience. (Woke is just being a normal, kind and compassionate person who recognizes there are marginalized groups in our modern society and culture. If you’re against that, look inward.)

Dude you have the community manager at compulsion games saying she wishes white and asian male gamers never existed. The things you say woke was about I would get on bored with it. But that's not what's it's about. You have fully staffed studios with people who hate their while male audience and act like they are all Andrew Tate even though they no it's not the case, then get pissed when that audience no longer wants to buy thier games.
