thing is when you add the overgrip and say electrical tape for edge guard, it increases the weight as well

Seems like they aren’t using the gen 3 but they still had different configurations for the gen 3 paddles vs the Joola gen 2 paddles so the info is still useful.

LOVE your PODS ! So I will be getting my Persus 14mm MOD TA-15 today, and I'm wondering what the BJ 16mm Tungsten placement of your tape(I will buy on Amazon) would do to the numbers. Can you mimic this when you test the MOD TA-15? Thanks and Im really looking forward to the MOD reviews. A whole bunch of us are!

Interesting and thanks for the video analysis and all the others on this topic. In general, I find that the pros use more weight than the general population of players. They are in better shape, stronger, and train regularly + lots of other factors obviously! Braydon - how about an analysis of the 1 inch per 1 gram “typical” spec versus the 1 inch per 1/2 gram version? Most mortals only add 2-3 inches of tape to each side to get us somewhere in the range of an 8.2-8.4 oz paddle. This results in a pretty tight micro cluster for the tape. I am curious how going lighter on the tape spec and using say 4-6 inches (or whatever) of lighter tape across a longer area would impact weight, swing weight and general feel and balance of the paddle. My theory is that it would help. I do plan to test this theory and haven’t seen any content yet in this topic. Thanks.

@pickleballeffect
@pickleballeffect 3 месяца назад
I like the 14 more, it wasn’t quite as springy and I liked that though the power is still there.

Really helpful, but based on your previous testing results, I wonder why so many still put lead tape on the throat area of the paddle
@pickleballeffect
@pickleballeffect 3 месяца назад
Yeah, it’s pretty interesting. The Johns kept saying they like it in the throat/corner because it makes it more stable in the bottom area where the paddle is weakest. But adding less weight and only putting it above the bottom corners like I preach still does that and with less weight. But adding more weight makes the paddle more powerful on bigger strokes too so maybe they just like having the extra weight for that and they just don’t want to increase the swing weight too much.

The hesacore alone would jump his paddle up to 8.5oz which he said is about his target weight and you still see added weight on his paddle in tournaments so maybe it’s heavier than he says ha.

Some pros in singles still weigh up that much but in doubles the game has changed a lot in the last year and has gotten a lot faster, so pros are now using less weight to gain more hand speed.
