He was my 1st Jamaican and reggae singer I saw in concert in Britain/ London. . Even before bob marley , big youth and others. Shame he died. The music industry has many pitfalls. Not only to children, but adults as well. Gone mad, overdose, ripped off, overspending, bad management. Taken advantage off. Overworked. The list goes on. Good biography. 👍🎅

Fans of Bob Marley look surprised when I say that Dennis Brown was more infuential as a vocalist in reggae---and Marley himself had named DB as his own favorite singer. I had the fortune to meet and speak with this man several times during his two visits to St. Louis. Dennis carried the sun in his smile and face---it is true, he made you feel you had made a friend, within minutes of meeting. I believe he had before the age of 18 a lung removed, and if that is true even more amazing his vocal powers in life. IMO it is not accurate to say 'the music business killed Dennis Brown". A life of cocaine use and compromised livity did that. My final time speaking to Mr. Brown had me ask him "After all you have done, all the tours and music you've recorded, could you retire tomorrow if you wished??' His face looked very thoughtful, his face considering the question, and said 'That is a serious thing...and...I would have to say no." Dennis passed less than 2 years later, and who ever gave more to Jamaican music than Dennis Emmanuel Brown?? Give Thanks💜

I was once in a studio in NYC in the early ‘90’s with a friend who was recording an album and Dennis Brown happened to be there recording at the same time. I was talking to the owner (David of D &D Studios in the Village) who told me that he only hangs around when Dennis is recording. Dennis was so humble and smiling. Album turned to to be a hit. Saw him again at the Empire Roller Rink in Brooklyn and I asked about the album and he said it was doing great. It is the album that contains the song “Inseparable”.
