How will quantum computing change the world? Neil deGrasse Tyson and comedian Chuck Nice learn about the development of quantum computing and what it means for humanity with theoretical physicist Michio Kaku.
What will quantum computing do beyond regular computing? Find out about the race to create the first all-purpose quantum computer and Michio’s book, Quantum Supremacy: How the Quantum Computer Revolution Will Change Everything. Discover quantum bits and how quantum computing breaks from binary. How will we use quantum computers in astrophysics? We explore disaster scenarios and how quantum computing could help us predict coronal mass ejections.
Where is quantum computing currently? We discuss brain mapping and whether quantum computers could be used as transporters. Plus, learn what it's like to work in string theory and how Michio got his start. Would it be possible to create instant interstellar communication using quantum entanglement?
Learn how quantum entanglement works and why it would be hard to send a message faster than the speed of light. Could quantum computing solve infinity? What is spacetime foam? What forces cause the strings in string theory to vibrate? All that, plus, what comes AFTER quantum computing?

They more than likely already exist and have for a long time, but we're not mature enough to handle them yet. But will we have access to them before NDT stops interrupting and bringing the overall quality of discussion(s) down 6 levels? "Im smart I know things I swear! Hey over here look at me! In theory, robot can be programmed to move its hand when it touches hot surface. How do I know its having the experience of hot using test tube(Deduction/induction)? The only thing i am certain of is that i have experience of hot. Speaking of the brain's connections: if those connections are at the quantum level then there is an infinite number of connections, all the time - all the possible 3D "hand positions". Brains aren't just about the connections but also the filtering and storage of data triggered through those connections. It's not just enough to map the brain but one also has to map the current storage and filtering mechanisms so that when reconstructed or revived the entity it is now active in behaves as the original entity at the time of transfer. In addition to the filtering and storage we have an emotional component, chemically produced, that impacts the whole system. Transferring it would also be required in order for a more complete person to emerge. I think the race to produce the first all-purpose quantum computers will be dumbed down versions - utilizing a minimum set of states or channels - that filter, store, weight, create new filters and output the result through a limited set of channels. As our understanding and ability to harness the power of that system is controlled additional channels will be introduced.

Beautiful! On the part of interstellar entanglement transmission however, our boys missed the simple tree for all the forest. For the purpose of communicating on 1 to 1 particle basis from one end of the universe to another, only 2 things are needed to relay a relatively satisfying amount of information: 1. The presence or absence of spin activity, complete disregarding state. Lets reduce it to a binary 1 and 0. 2. The length of activity and pause in-between spin activity. With high precision measuring instruments, you could morse code entire sentences and coded data sets with only the alternation of these two. For example the alphabet could be coded into the time of the pause between spin activations, for example: Three rapid spin activations in a row indicating beginning of transmission followed by 10ms pause = A Spin activation followed by 11ms pause = B Spin activation followed by 12ms pause = C Three rapid spins in a row indicating end of transmission. Sentence transmitted: ABC - Morse coded and sent from one end of the universe to the other in about ~0.04 seconds. For text based communication, more than enough. Of course the pause could be scaled down further and further to considerably speed up transmission speed, for data transmission purposes.

Unless you are a scientist yourself, you wouldn't. They need to dumb down for us to follow, just see how difficult it is for Kaku to do it, Neil is a better communicator and can do it better so we can understand. I'd love to watch a monthly show with the two of them and a few other amazing minds talking science and tech. THAT would be the greatest show ever after the original Cosmos.

Did he seriously not want to talk about AI in a quantum computer? Michio would have shed some amazing light on that subject
@SillyTube9

I would argue that it’s rather import to start considering the consequences of that now, before it overtakes us. I mean we’ve already lost the first skirmish to AI (namely manipulation by social media algorithms), but an adaptation AI with quantum processing power could be truly terrifying, if its not aligned with human interests.

Even though it was a scratch-the-surface type of talk, Professor Kaku’s explanation was the best and most concise picture of quantum computing I’ve ever heard or read. It was that “now I get it” moment.

Here's a question. If strings vibrate because they cannot NOT vibrate, 1) what happens to the concept that nothing can move without energy being injected into the system, and 2) is it conceivable that this could be harnessed somehow? We know how to create energy from movement, and if we're getting movement with zero energy input, if harnessed wouldn't that be free, unlimited energy?

"...can't do better than atoms..." It has ever been difficult to predict the future when factors unperceived are not in the equation. Michio Kaku knows this. I am surprised to hear him make such a statement though I admire him none the less. Glad to have him back on the show!

I don't have the equation of how the big bang and the big crunch is, but from my understanding is that at the end of expansion where the very last black hole gets ripped apart, and all is torn into subatomic particles and find their proper place though out the universe, is where the big crunch and the another big bang happens so fast that basically they are one and the same thing. I call it harmonic resignation.
