Janna is my #1 favorite guest of all time. She is such a wonderful science communicator and person. I love her chemistry with Neil and Lord Nice

I used to vehemently hate Neil because i thought he was arrogant, and a know it all, and obnoxious. This was difficult due to my love of cosmology and science at large. He would come up in numerous videos I watched and he just sort of became a necessary evil in my search for understanding of the universe. But the more he came up, and the more I listened, and heard not just what he said, but also how he said it, and who he is and what his mission is as a human, I can now say I genuinely adore the man. I say this because as I was listening to his monologue at the end and I was staring into his eyes, I realized how much I love and respect him as a scientist and a fellow human, and was struck with this weird feeling that I somehow used to despise the man. Listening to a persons words and learning their heart can change yours. If there is someone you hate today... maybe give them another chance, maybe 10 or 20 or 100 more chances, like I did, and you may very well realize your hate is simply misunderstanding, or your own ignorance. Thanks Neil for making the Human Race a group I'm proud to be a part of.

#Question In the TV Series Star Trek Voyager The Borg open a “Trans-Dimensional Rift” which opened a “Gateway” to Species 8472 and when Voyager goes through that Rift they end up in “Fluidic Space” when Space isn’t really Space, it is Matter. So think of Space as we know it Only it isn’t “Space” it is filled with Matter (Think of moving through water like a Submarine) the Submarine is the spaceship and the water is Space. (Keeping in mind the “Multiverse” would something like that possible AND how would Physics work in that Realm?

She does an absolutely phenomenal job of explaining complex ideas. And even more impressive, she manages to stay coherent and focused through the constant (I mean CONSTANT) interruptions and peripheral inputs Neil offers. I would have loved to hear her complete her thoughts/arguments to completion. I bet she would’ve have developed them even more impressively.

I've re-listened to previous episodes and the scientific growth of Chuck is interesting to see. Then thought it most likely mirrors mine!

I would describe Janna's outlook as "I live the life I love and I love the life I live." How frickin' wonderful!

General relativity and quantum mechanics will never be combined until we realize that they take place at different moments in time. Because causality has a speed limit(c) every point in space where you observe it from will be the closest to the present moment. When we look out into the universe, we see the past which is made of particles (GR). When we try to look at smaller and smaller sizes and distances, we are actually looking closer and closer to the present moment (QM). The wave property of particles appears when we start looking into the future of that particle. It is a probability wave because the future is probabilistic. Wave function collapse happens when we bring a particle into the present/past. GR is making measurements in the predictable past. QM is trying to make measurements of the probabilistic future

Chuck needs an honorary grad degree with how much he has sponged up over the years. Fabulous to see someone who used to think on a more juvenile level to relate and comprehend on a more upper scale level! Props to him for being so curious and taking the show serious enough that it benefited him! Keep it going chuck! I remember forever ago you used to joke about StarTalk forever being on the air.......BUT maybe the torch can be passed to you in due time.

What can you do the complet episode.

The existance of only one electron in the universe that simply runs back anf forth through time can explain a lot. 1) why they the same 2) problems of large numbers: in a universe with a mass of 10^56g approximatly 10^80 electrons and the ratio of the visible universe size to the electrone size exatly 10^40. That is just one layer to go back in time 3) the experiment with two slits is easily explained 4) positrons just electrons moving back in time 5) collision of electron and positron destruction of the loop. Therefore , there are so few of them for the whole structure to work.

I gathered a small part of this so far, what I did gather will not be retained and I love it.

I’ve been watching Startalk since the nat geo days and Janna Levin is easily one of the best guests you have on. I like when guests and the hosts can all be in one room. Face to face interaction is better than webcam interactions, though webcams are convenient and allow guests at a distance to be on that might otherwise not be.

Neal, Janna, Chuck. The one electron theorem was explained in Dion Fortune's 1942 book, "The Cosmic Doctrine". Ring Cosmos (the attraction to the center and the inertia of remaining still), Ring Chaos (the attraction to the circumference and the inertia of remaining in motion - which left unchecked would continue on to oblivion). The Ring-Pass-Not becomes the balance point that holds everything within the toric field). And that is the point of manifestation. (That is what string theory shows.) The initial movement between Spirit and matter, once set in motion will continue around indefinitely. So yes, until the Oroboros is filled to satiation it is as a plane of existence. Once filled or satiated the Oroborus opens up to exhibit itself as a spiral and then there is a splitting off akin as to one cell becomes two. The inversion points are akin to the Guardian of the Above and the Guardian of the below, both of which are our reflections mirroring back to each of us our level of consciousness. It's one electron and it ALL OF US. See, so WE ARE ALL ONE!

your measuring is the partical in universe. so wouldn't it not care if its in milky way or Andromeda it scans the reality to see if it is still exists or not. the question is can you send it and it not pop up? that would mean it left the universe which is the first steps to traveling to the multiverse.

I think superposition describes the wave function which won't apply to the particle. In transit energy takes wave form and when it contacts a surface that can absorb the energy it reaches it's destination as a particle. What we know as particles are like the holes left behind when a rifleman shoots a target, but to make the analogy work the bullet would be pure energy and travel as a wave. Waves also can't be seen by us because of the fundamental properties of waves and our sense of sight. Our sight works because waves of light are reflected off a surface and hit our eyes which take those particles and with the help of our brains were able to get an image of whatever light enters our eyes. On a side note I think it's incredibly fascinating how light can relatively accurately portray everything around us. The pure mechanism of light bouncing of a surface and then interacting with our eyes to form shapes, colors, depth, and everything else, it's hard not to be humble.

In the discussion about rotating euclidian space via a lorentz boost, something in the description right after felt off. You can't actually orientate something within 3-dimensional space without utilizing the lorentz boost (time), or treating it as a portion of a four-dimensional euclidian object being observed in 3-dimensional space, which can be oriented in a separate way from it's other fourth-dimensional counterpart in any 3-dimensionally observable way without breaking 4-th dimensional consistency; but you cannot re-orient something within 3-dimensional euclidian space not utilizing another form of dimensionality without breaking the euclidian space to do so. That is to say, 3-dimensional orientation is static; as are any observations within it. It would be like taking a holographic photo of a room, and never being able to reorient the things in the room without altering the photo or utilizing time in order to accomplish 'change'. Whether that be change in observable perspective, or change in the observed space (eg, people growing physically older as time passes). 'Change' of 3-dimensional space is thus possible only in a fourth dimensional sense, either reconfiguring the observable orientation of 4-dimensional euclidian matter, or considering the natural 'change' of said orientation as 'time'- 4-th dimensional movement observable in our 3-dimensional euclidian capacity. It's much like the common misconception people have of light being the speed of time- that's not accurate: as a thought experiment, let's say there are three stars, stars A, B, and C. Stars A and C are moving directly away from each other at just over half the speed of light, while star B hangs out directly in the middle. Let's say each has a planet with a civilization eventually capable of light-based communication with each other. Light from star A and C will never reach one another; their combined movement would be too fast for light. However, both A and C can communicate with star B. Let's say that star A communicates a message to star B at (for simplicity's sake) one light-year of distance from star B. It reaches star B one light-year later, and they then communicate that same message to star C when they receive it. Star C is already a light-year away, but moving at just over half the speed of light, they'll receive the message from star B that was sent from star A approximately 1.5x more the amount of time it took star A's message to reach star B. Ala, not infinite time. Likewise, light not being a barrier for information exchange. This separates light from having anything to do with 'being' time, it simply measures it in a scale, as Farenheit or Celcius measure temperature. Time exists regardless of light's interaction with it, but our own ability to observe distance- space, is limited by our observation of light through time. On another matter, touching on the question regarding the stretchiness of spacetime being finite; in classical theory, if spacetime is not infinitely stretchy, black holes should be 'eating' vast quantities of spacetime far more than what we consider 'matter'. Thus, white holes should expel far more spacetime than matter, and should realistically be observable as cosmic voids. Yes? By some theories, inside a black hole would be a vastness of space compressing possibly leading to a white hole; if this is the case... if a large black hole eats a smaller black hole, if matter and spacetime is swallowed by the blackhole in a causal sense (one thing getting 'eaten' before another), in theory if a swallowed black hole by a black hole means a white hole expelled from a white hole, the distribution of both matter and spacetime/void into a blank canvass lattice would not be even, as say, a black hole that has become a white hole which gotten 'eaten' before another different black hole would come out as a white hole expelling its own 'eaten' spacetime and matter causally before the other 'eaten' blackhole turned whitehole comes out and begins expelling its own 'eaten' contents of spacetime and matter. Ala dark energy, and uneven matter ...what's the term here...? 'Creation'? 'Observability'? Matter's 'coming into existence' within our observability of the universe. I realize this is long; I felt it worthwhile to share these thoughts.

Neil is the very definition of someone who literally loves the sound of his own voice, which I suppose we all do to varying degrees. I just wish he'd learn to allow his guests to speak occasionally.

If I had to drink every time these two interrupted her while she was speaking with their feeble attempts at humor, I'd be dead.
