To add to the points you've mentioned, I think the reason why PPOP idols are more free to express themselves and show more personality than their KPOP counterparts is that the landscape of the local audience here in the Philippines is different. In most East Asian countries like Korea, Japan, and China, the concept of being an idol goes beyond being an entertainer or a celebrity, they are almost deified and put on a pedestal to be admired, and that comes with certain expectations such as, but not limited to, not publicly dating, holding proper decorum in public events and spaces, being polite and well mannered on screen or in person, or to sum it all out, being perfect. KPOP fans expect their idols to be perfect and to keep up with the KPOP standards in terms of looks, behavior, and performance, and when these expectations are not met, a backlash is to be expected. Whereas here in the Philippines, we value nuances and strong characters, and we appreciate celebrIties when they show more personality and to an extent be unserious about things. I'm just glad we let our PPOP idols act like their young selves and not be so uptight about everything. ❤❤❤
Thanks for this input. ❤We're very glad that being nuanced and unserious is celebrated now in spaces like pop music. Especially with Filipino artists being at the forefront of this new era ❤
I think etong BINI yung matagal na nating hinihintay na girl group na kayang makipagsabayan at pwedeng ipagmalaki sa buong mundo❤ look at them now, mahal na mahal sila ng mga tao💯🌸
You hit every point. BINI actually shows that IDOLS are Humans. IDOLS are not meant to be design like a character in an Arcade Game. You can create them in whatever pleases you. They are not like a Vending Machine that you have to drop a coin in everytime to have access to them. BINI are very reachable. BINI actually do not have Fans, what they have are friends and families. They don’t consider their fans as fans but as one of their friends.
Yeahhh. Thank you! That's why we said in the vid that BINI, and most PPop groups today are more like our 'friends who happen to be famous' vs 'unreachable superstars.' And that's so beautiful ♥
This is very inspirational. BINI is that shining ray of sunshine we never knew we needed. And what a coincidence! our national flag has 8 rays of the sun in it. These girls are our cultural wonder and possibly the best gift we could share to the world.
Love this video and your take. BINI is truly authentic with their non-existent idol image, their chaotic, self-deprecating humor. Transcendent talent talaga sila. If they continue with this trend, I believe BINI has the potential to be the most successful, or most popular or the best OPM artists of all time. I manifest na yan. Eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Just watched some of video clips from they’re re recent Asiya performance, when in time ( only now Bini time )that fan cam appreciated and hunger for both their performance and non performance exposure, from behind the scene to sound check to their spiels all the way to theirs bloopers are being consumed by fans and some get viral more than there actual performances. As Filipino we have this phrase “Simot na simot” ( we clean the plate ) and that what’s Bini’s give away a Finger Licken good experience. Indeed Bini’s performance and presence transcends beyond…
yeah, every girl group with a Filipina member seems fun to watch. UNIS and Katseye are examples of those groups. Filipinas makes a group different from other groups. I am no Filipino, I'm German and that's what I have observed.
I believe the laid back Filipino culture allows us to exude that joie de vivre with youthful abandon and BINI embodies that. This is a compliment coming from an elder millennial who adores BINI ❤❤❤
This is so well produced! Watched every minute of it and am glad It’s not a brain rot adhd inducing edit. The pacing and story telling is just perfect and very warm. Well written and well executed. I’m a fan! A metalhead bloom here btw. ❤
This is true! Bini is one of a kind. They’re just having fun! Which is very relatable! I love Bini! Each one of them is a 10/10 for me. My bias is only 11/10 only because I see myself in her we have the same trait - Gwen. Hahahaha!
I look forward to BINI reshaping Asian Pop by raising standards for vocal ability. Reactors are surprised that every member of BINI is a vocalist, able to deliver live vocal performances (they are even surprised that the rappers can also sing). Although they are all pretty, the term "Visual" does not mean anything to them, because real talent is required of its members. Aside from vocal abilities, proficiency in the English language enables them to penetrate international markets, not only through English songs, but also in interviews. When Asian Pop artists try to duplicate these, they will realize that these qualities are the product of generations of singing tradition/competition, and our historical ties to American language and culture. I also believe that our centuries under Spanish control have imparted a "Latin vibe" on our musical artistry, something that is unique among Asians. And finally, Tagalog sounds distinctly different from Korean, Chinese or Japanese, and lends itself very well for all types of songs, especially for rapping. Good ingredients are hard to find.
I'd like to think the Sexbomb Girls could have gone bigger than what they've achieved if they were considered true artists rather than a novelty act. There's a reason that there are still those fond of them until now. They are an authentic bunch as well, especially the OGs.
This is such a good point. I think aside from the very sexist and elitist factors during those times, being "real" like they were back then was frowned upon. Thanks for this input!
Yeah that's also what I think... Not only Sexbomb but some other GG too. It's kinda sad of how they are promoted as a group. Looking back their concept is very adult and not good for minors but their music is a bit okay for minors.
I like to think that PH artists are more closer to western artists not only on how much freedom they have in expressing themselves but also on how they have more creative input over their music and even classic and new OPM artists have worked that way. Because I heard about kpop companies buying music from producers in the US, getting choreographers, getting writers, hiring personality developers, hiring script writers, social media managers for each idol etc. And then you hear a group like SB19 who does all those things on their own and even Bini writing and composing some of their songs, creating the choreo, and even created the art pieces in some of their performances.
Definitely see the similarity to Western artists but I do feel like PPop is, currently, in its own lane especially in terms of authenticity. And to your point about SB19 calling their own shots, I think this unique brand is because P-Pop is to a certain extent self-reliant. And that's sooo cool, right?
The culture of the PH is the complete opposite of Korea, that is why Bini seems so much more open and free in expressing their personalities in comparison with korean idols who must uphold a reserved image. Dont expect kpop idols to suddenly start acting like Bini or filipino artists in general, the culture just isn't the same. That would be like expecting Bini to be reserved like kpop idols, as you see even though being reserved and proper were the idol standard prior to Bini, they remained filipino in terms of their personalities even after making it big.
Yes what a refreshing conversation! I was in marketing and pr before my current profession and when i found out about Bini last year (it's only recently that i became a super fan) i thought to myself the management is sitting on a gold mine if they do this right. The pop music, garb, hair, choreography -- that's got to be a given. BUT what i think set them apart was their vocals. Nearly everyone in this group can hold their own on a solo performance. Furthermore, they got a musical choral teacher as a music director i mean come on!! The talent is insane. Most of all, what i think further allowed them to break out of their home market is thet they all speak English and that's so accessible for folks who aren't Filipino. Whereas K-pop groups would rely on the one or two members to do all the overseas promo, now anyone can speak and attract fans. Just look what happened to 2ne1 and then how BlackPink built on that. Then NewJeans. The cherry on top (sorry) is that the management cared enough to get them mental health care during lockdown and training. Keep the girls happy, keeps the fans smiling, keeps the bosses happy. There's a bit of long-leash here thats working and they trust the girls aren't taking advantage of it. It's a sweet spot because provincial folks tend to he more mindful of being too crass but being a silly 20something with your new sisters is going to be happen no matter what you do. . To contain that would be so hard but to contain it in 18-22 year old during lockdown? Pfft good luck.
They really are the perfect blend of talent and realness. Plus, the timing is perfect because the music industry (and everywhere actually) are shifting to a more authentic vibe which I believe is just a lot healthier for society hehehe
SANA NAMAN MA ACKNOWLEDGE ANG PAG ANGAT NILA DAHIL PINAGHIRAPAN NILA TALAGA YAN, HINDI LANG PANTROPIKO ANG NAG ANGAT SA KANILA KUNDI ANG PAGIGING TOTOO NILA SA LIVESTREAMS NILA.
I've been following kpop for as long as i can remember. It's been a long time coming to finally see a group like Bini who manage to emerge from the depths of the woodworks to global stardom. Bini core rocks! The authenticity and genuinity is what really got me aside from the undeniable talent. Hope they get to visit Taiwan and HK soon.
Kaya di nako nakikinig sa kpop since 2018. Kasi daming issues ng depression, overwork and abuse from both management and fans towards artists pero binabalewala kasi alam ng korean govt and music industry na yung system nila is what brings money, and that’s what’s important for them.
Because of Philippine culture being "western" in some aspect, Filipinos do strive for authenticity. Kudos for BINI for being real. It will not be shocking if one day we would penetrate western market because western artists are also like this.
We have to put into account the differences of Pop Cultures to each Asian Countries, especially for Kpop Idol System. But the commonality they have (not all) is setting limitations to any pop group what can and cannot do. BINI's behavior came from us typical pinoys, which is so relatable and embodies Filipino aspects and culture. With such Asian trend right now on filtered/controlled behavior and performances. BINI being real is I may say in this generation is revolutionary to what a Pop group should have and now we are bringing our culture to global stage.
_Colet’s Personality alone will surely shock the entire KPOP and JPOP industry and fans_ 😂 girlie can openly express herself , callout delulu fans and openly clapback to BINI’s haters and posting it online 😂
For me, what I like about Philippine entertainment industry is their edutainment approach while what I like about the news about Philippine entertainment is their infotainment approach. SB19 Pablo being ambassador and BINI Aiah's outreach are epitomes of that formula in this present era. Because that 40% of Filipino audience trusting those unique entertainment contents is also as important as those 60% na dun pa rin sa pang-masa.
This video presents a refreshing and genuine perspective on the group, Bini. The core clips are well-researched and effectively convey the message. Thank you for putting this together-it's both informative and heartfelt!
thank you BINI. (pwera BP i love BP hehe haha). BINI super omg. like from stage and off stage talagang napaka ano ba? napaka sulit nilang i stan. that's why I dont care. I subscribe, buy their merch, engage in socmed kase naman mga beshie super entertaining nga mga gurls. Anyways bye hahah see you sa GBV.
Great takes and very clear explanations. This is really a great video. You just narrated their long journey in just 20+ minutes, but still hit all great points. I agree that Bini embraces their flaws and imperfections that’s why they are loved by their fans.
Finally! I already found the true meaning of P-pop revolutions same as the Gramny awards say in their article . Amid K-pop's global domination, Filipino pop-commonly known as Pinoy pop, or simply "P-pop" - is becoming one of the fastest-growing music markets. Leading the revolution are the eight women of BINI: Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoannna and Sheena.
Okay...I've analyzed the "fart scene" many times. I know she denied it in one interview, but i believe it was Colet that farted. Ano sa palagay nyo Blooms? lol
One thing about PPop is that they less care about their Idol image, they tend to say what's their mind even tho they would regret it after because of restrictions or rules from their company. But I would say Bini and SB19 have the best interaction with fans especially Filipino fans. They are very sarcastic and mean but in a good and funny way. That's why if you are not a fan you would think they're rude to their fan bases.
