Foley artist must be a thankless job. If you do a bad job people complain. If you do it right nobody notices =)

The art of Foley is so impressive and so important. I remember as a kid, playing around with an OLD holmes brand window fan , with 6 blades. stick a clear flexible pipe to it and listening to it. through the tube. It sounded like an ENTIRE 1940s airforce flying at max cruising altitude overhead. Very Foley, and I didn't even understand what that was!

Oh, sure, when this guy does it in a specially-built studio, it's a fascinating, often under-appreciated contribution to the craft of movie-making. But when I do it in my garage, it's a tragic cause for concern among my neighbors and relatives.

I remember the first time I learned about foley artists was during Republic Commando. The props they used for the weapons and aliens seemed so weird and crazy but worked so well.

Sound mixing and editing are the two most important professions in movie making. It's one thing to make a film, buts a totally different thing to make it feel like you're in it.

I guess the foley artist fell asleep when Agent Smith sounded like dominoes and bowling pins in that big fight scene of The Matrix Reloaded.

You can tell how good the acoustics are in that room by how good the interview sounds

Always wanted this for a career. Even when I was in college and I took a tour in one of these ADR and foley studios, it felt like they were dodging a lot of "how'd you get started" questions so I still have no idea how people get this lucky.

I like that they have a sincere love for this craft.

i love how foley studios are basically just random rooms filled with random tat add in the fact that in film credits i notice often there's 2 credited foley artists sharing the same family name. the thought of a married coupe, or pair of siblings, dicking around in this sort of place for a living to help bring our favourite films to life is brilliant.

I really find this thing interesting. And I respect Foley artist. You doing great work

Think I remember seeing this guy at either Universal studies Florida back in the 90s, or MGM, either one. I remember his face.

Thats one thing everyone always wants is better visuals in movies more lens flare depth of field all that but to me i think good sound design is a vital part of movies even games and i love this man for his ingenuity and for following his passion Keep listening guys!

Someone make an interactive museum for such items, sounds, and movies please!

This is actually really cool

It seems he has a really sound job there.

I can look at a picture and tell you what sounds are there. That's what got me into making audioplays when I could. I've even made my own when I've had to, IF I could. Otherwise I just do my best. But I would love to meet him and explore this. And bearing in mind I'm HoH so this very ironic, I literally can't tell sounds apart in the real world because it all meshes together as One Indistinguishable Noise. But my ex bf who helps me make them and tell me if the levels are OK loves the fact I think of sounds that he never takes notice of, like if there's a motorbike going past somewhere or someone just randomly drops something that's not central to the plot. Just ambient noises, that I couldn't pick up on in the street if I tried, but I can put it all in there in Audacity. This would teach me what makes what sort of noise. Maybe I should look into getting this sort of job since I technically do it for my audioplays and actually really enjoy it, but it's not like anyone would realistically take me because I'm HoH and need someone with two ears to be listening to the program and telling me if it's not the right volume.

Another amazing bonus to this already amazing job is that he gets to watch the movies for free before they're officially released
