When I first watched it in the movie theatre, I thought the sound effects were genius especially because of the constant breathing noises throughout the whole movie. So symbolic. What an artistic touch. After it ended, and people were getting up, I saw the guy behind me leaving. He used a portable breathing aid. Which made some noise when he inhaled. Breathing noises. It was all him. No artistic effects after all. I never watched it a second time because I think my unique experience will be ruined lol

well, look how long the credits are, you gotta pay all of them a decent wage, equipment rental, space rental, post production, advertisement, not to mention the story board phase. it adds up as most movies take at least 2 years to make and thats if they are rushed. i dont know how they decide when the movies are released, but there might be a bribe or a pay this much for this time frame, and you want how many copies of the movie to go to how many theaters, and for how long? then you have to actually make, package, and ship them around, plus all of the infrastructure you need for that. it adds up

My biggest issue with a quiet place is, if the aliens can hear you step on a branch from a mile away, why can't they hear your heartbeat, your chewing, your swallowing saliva, your footsteps, even on sand, and anything else? And if they're that good at hearing, why doesn't the sound of every single thing on earth moving simultaneously overpower them? And why aren't they attracted to very loud things such as a waterfall?

actually there's a limit to their hearing, and they don't care about natural noise (leaves rustling, waterfalls etc.) so your voice is covered up by the waterfall, which they don't react to. I think Film theory did a video about the hearing range of the aliens, so you could check that out.

Sound design for this movie had to be so much fun. Like he said, when sound is literally what the entire movie is based around, the success or shortcomings are all on you. These guys got to show their true creative side for this movie.

The first time I watched this in theatres there was one guy laughing in the back after the kid was killed, which made everyone in the theatre laugh for the next 30 seconds. After that every time we saw a creature everyone would laugh, took away from the horror but it was the best theatre experience I’ve ever had

I always thought that this must be such a cool and fun job. Ever since I watched the foley video for Star Wars Republic Commando when I was a kid. I’d love to do something like this. But I don’t really know what all you need to do to become a foley artist. Or if it even pays enough to be worth it.
