Many people are living paycheck to paycheck. With inflation at an all time high and the stock market in a bear market, we often look at those things and assume that is why it is so difficult to make ends meet. Although those are reasons that make it hard to get ahead, there are others reasons it is hard to get ahead that are so subtle that they are hard to notice.
Our current economic system has many tricks that get us to spend money or believe certain things and in this video I want to expose some of those tricks and hopefully you can recognize them and avoid them in your life.
"5 Tricks The System Uses To Keep You Broke"
1. Fancy, Inspiring, Motivational, Empty Words
Words are powerful. And with words it's never about what you say, but it's about how you say it. Every industry in society uses words to make an argument. The argument is usually that something (a product or service) is better and can improve your life; however, these words come at a hefty price. Instead of focusing so much on the words, focus on the argument behind the words.
2. A Culture Constructed By Hollywood
In the United States, we do not have a culture with a single shared history of traditions. And because we do not have the long culture, Hollywood has constructed our culture. Our culture is mainly made up of movies, music, and performers. This has created a very superficial set of values and beliefs where the majority of people want luxurious things like a big house or a nice car; however, we need to be aware of how much influence the entertainment industry has over culture and not be influenced by it.
3. Trends
Everything runs in trends in the United States and around the world. We constantly move from one trend to another and the reason we do this is because trends are extremely profitable. People promote trends often because there is a lot of money to be made; however, trends are very dangerous because they encourage people to panic and worry. This can cause people to lose their life savings over night or make a big purchase without thinking about it. It is important to not fall for the hype of trends.
4. Thinking Solutions Only Come ‘The Cure’
When you encounter a problem in life, there are two moments when you can solve the problem: before it happens or after it happens. Society often gets us to think that solutions can only be found after an event happens; however, this can be very expensive. We can spend a lot of money trying to fix something after it happens. Instead of focusing on solving problems after they happen, it is more cost effective to solve them before they happen. Focusing on the prevention instead of the cure.
5. A System That Preys On The Poor
Many topics that I speak on like consumerism, materialism, and money might seem like the problems of the privileged. When someone is just trying to make ends meet, not buying a new item might seem to be irrelevant; however, these issues are often more relevant towards people with less money because society preys on the poor. For example, many designer brand comes market their products to the lower classes to make them feel rich. There are countless other companies that have predatory marketing strategies to take money from lower economic classes, so it is important to be aware of these predatory marketing strategies.

This doubt about a "luxurious lifestyle" came to me few months ago. It was perplexing at first. I was amused to think that I have been chasing that without putting a thought. I agree with you that it has all been glorified by the Hollywood or even the music industry. All I actually want is a decent comfortable life where my basic needs are met without much hardships. That has become my goal. Luxuries may not even matter.

I moved a lot when I was a kid where I went to 3 schools. It was a really tough experience. I think as long as the family stays in tact, then it doesn't effect the child too much (which my moving was because of parents separation). I'm not sure how abroad would work though as I think it's very hard to fit in in another country where the culture is so different.

Yup, I prefer to pay the price which just includes the cost for the manufacturer and their profit margin. That's it. If the materials that have been used are a bit costly, I'm fine with that too, provided the thing I'm buying is worth it. But throwing huge amount of money just to buy the "brand value" ain't for me.

As a kid in the 2000’s I noticed that “regular” families in movies and TV shows, like in “Home Alone” were almost exclusively upper-middle-class. Growing up in a poor/working-class family I thought this was simply because it was gave directors more options to have a relatively wealthy screen family. I didn’t understand that this was an “aspirational” or part of constant “subliminal marketing.

Couldn’t agree more! I stopped following tends years ago. I now dress true to me, which is timeless, and preppy. I buy quality over quantity and focus on its longevity. A collared shirt always looks put together, classic and in most cases elegant, and never out of style. Once you find your true style, you aren’t influenced by trends and that goes for decorating your home and even your vehicle.

Capitalism also preys upon other countries’ cheap labor and low taxes. It has done so throughout history and can’t survive without taking advantage of someone or something. The world has limited resources, people have limited money. Growth is unsustainable forever and we need more socialistic policies (not full socialism) to relieve the bloodletting. America is not a capitalistic country, it is a corporatist country that needs to become a mixed economy again.

It's amazing what marketing can do. I'm thinking about this as I drink my perked coffee. Yes, I still drink perked coffee. Why? Because it's so much better than drip. It smells better, tastes better and is way cheaper. It takes two tablespoons of coffee (standard coffee scoop) to make a full pot, there are no filters to buy and the percolator lasts a lifetime (mine is fifty years old, stainless steel, and still good as new). It also doesn't require counter space. So why am I the only person in the world still drinking perked coffee? Duh. A huge marketing campaign, forty years ago, convinced everyone to switch to drip. Perked was suddenly gross and inferior. Classy people only drink drip. Big scam. People still wrinkle their noses when I mention my perked coffee. Older folks who remember will repeat the marketing myths. GOOD coffee is dripped, not brewed. They sold us all on buying filters, buying way more coffee, buying cumbersome coffee makers that need to be replaced. And the coffee doesn't even taste like coffee anymore. One more thing. A standard cup of coffee used to be only six ounces. Nobody drank giant mugs of coffee. They didn't need to. Again, much cheaper.

6:40 Trend is a Money Pit indeed in our Modern Society of Hyper Consumerism fueled by High Technology of Internet, Smartphone and Socialmedia. Just wanna share my thoughts about "The System", way back 90s and earlier. Back when I was a kid here in Philippines, parents brag about on stuff they bought like : "See this *stuff* that I bought? We have it for almost a decade! Pretty durable huh? What a great purchase!" And trend back then in TV commercials are focused on "FUNCTION" of the product that they sell (including how durable they are) and not on "HOW CUSTOMER WILL FEEL" when they bought it. Fast forward today, me as a parent now... People on Socialmedia (I quit FB, 2020) and I know talks like : "What? You still have *any 2 y.o.+ stuff*, that's old bro! Buy the latest! Your missing out the fun! What's the use of money and your labor! Treat yourself! Your family! MAKE THEM HAPPY! What are you? A poor?!" My mind really boggles me on how people act nowadays like zombies showing that "The Man" mastered The System after the Boom of Smartphone and Socialmedia around 2013-2016 onwards, to make Consumerism even more a cancerous in our Modern Society and making people like their in a "Modern Labor Camp", a SLAVE of it. What a world we are living right now... Geezzz...

If it is going so fast why it needs promotion like this? Just Sell it and enjoy the income. But these tricks aren't aimed at people who think. It is aimed at the majority who forgot many things since leaving the compulsory education and switched their brains off for the rest of their life.

you never talk about cities, but the truth in france is, most people left paris because life out there is too expensive. i can't understand people paying $1500 a month for an home, when you can have the same thing in another city for half the price. of course it's not paris, but second or third biggest cities are offering usualy the same confort than capitals. hospitals, metro stations, shopping centers... everything you need in your everyday's life, within 15 minutes as a pedestrian. here in france we have poor quality of life. lack of healthcare, lack of security, lack of justice... there are some better places out there, place where your taxes just don't goes into a giant void. maybe dubai where rich governements provides more pleasant places to be, maybe australia, where the sun and the massive amount of parks brings joy and smile to the people, maybe spain, where good politics brings good quality of life. sometimes i even think about florida, where massive tourism makes easy to found a job, such as in orlando, with all theses recreation centers.

A refreshingly radical video! I would only argue that the system preys on everyone, though the poor are undoubtedly the most vulnerable. In pursuit of profit, the "man" is coming after all of us: think "Obamacare" insurance rates -- the poor are eligible for Medicaid in many states, the not-so-poor are not; think also the high cost of housing, particularly in large cities; private equity buying up nursing homes and hospitals: these things are affecting more than just the poor and indebted. An even better example is the cost of higher education: state institutions that used to be virtually free to in-state residents have become unaffordable to many young people, who have to take out loans to pay for their educations. You expertly avoided this but I would argue that your are the exception. Our government, in cahoots with private industry, is preying on us, its citizens, picking our carcass clean, and I'm not sure what's going to make it stop. Great job again, Austin!

The focus on materialism and consumerism in society is perpetuated by industries such as Hollywood and the entertainment industry, which construct a superficial culture based on trends and luxury goods. However, it is hypocritical for a RU-vidr to speak out against these issues while also utilizing similar tactics in their own content. You use flashy titles and catchy phrases to attract viewers and generate profits, without truly addressing the underlying issues of the societal and economic systems that perpetuate these problems. It is important to recognize that simply pointing out these issues without acknowledging one's own role in perpetuating them is not enough. Instead, there needs to be a focus on finding solutions that address the root causes of these problems and promoting a more sustainable and equitable society. This includes being mindful of one's own actions and the potential impact they may have on others, as well as actively working to dismantle systems that exploit and prey on vulnerable communities. Every individual's problems are unique and may be influenced by a combination of these factors. Additionally, it's important to note that some people may be more vulnerable to certain issues due to the intersectionality of these factors. But from my own experiences the problem lies more often in personal "choices and actions" and "family and relationships". Blaming the system for your problems is a nice and easy way of living within the victim role.

After I started traveling throughout the world a deep understanding came from some of the happiest people I met with the least lifestyle, now 'if I can't eat it, I don't need it. I never know where I'll be tomorrow and I love it so! If I can't carry it, I don't buy it because I won't store it now! I have very few uses for money regardless of income and have never been happier.

Sad how ads media never say save and buy something in cash (prevention, delayed gratification) but have it now now you deserve it, pay back later (cure). The system thrives on us being driven by instant gratification. Prevention much better, fewer things maybe but less stress.

The man tells you that their services will make your life easier, but really he’s just trying to reduce the friction between you and parting with your money. I read a book that discussed how subscription services have been found to be very lucrative and now you see so many companies trying to go to a subscription based service of some sort

How about the EV trend? My friend sold his families only car to go into debt for an EV. Not only are they further in debt but now limited to the range and ability to charge their EV. #trends

'Que tenga un buen día!' The verb shifts into the conjunctive and it should be tengA! No tengo, in this case! Just so you know.

So much wisdom here, we live in such a spend, spend and spend culture, the average American does not even have 400 dollars in the bank to cover emergencies, yet they have a 700 dollar car payment and 6500 dollar credit card balance, plus student loan debt for a degree they will never use!

Well if access is only given in exchange for payment it is obvious that many will be broke buying everything. How else are they supposed to end up with money if they don't buy money making things (cars, education, skills, access to items that increase the odds of making money?)
