As a fan of Studio Trigger, just seeing this over-the-top awesomeness was just too good, I expected nothing less from the director of Gurren Lagann, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Kill La Kill, and Promare
I enjoyed this short, now I can understand the mixed reception and divide from this short due to the fact that this is Studio Trigger better known for their work on _Kill la Kill_ and _Promare,_ and how some of the scenes such as Am and Karre breathing in space and the former having many lightsaber arms ala General Grievous but nevertheless, I still enjoy the short for what it is and I give mad props to Trigger for the animation as I became a fan of their work from these aforementioned projects (Promare and especially Kill la Kill) and before that _Gurren Lagann_ which although not made by Trigger had the same director and animators that would later found Studio Trigger. Plus the English dub of the short has Alison Brie (Community, The LEGO Movie) and Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) who voiced Am and Karre respectively and I enjoy their performances despite the dialogue being "hammy" and miscast. Although it's not going to happen immediately, I would love to see these characters appear again either in a Miniseries or a movie.
Plus Little Witch Academia which just had a character whip out a lightsaber near it's climax for no real reason... She's a witch, she's fighting a witch who has made a technological abomination... and all of a sudden she pulls off her cloak, and is wearing a body sock and has a lightsaber.
The aesthetic of this one was heavily influenced by the movie Promare (also by Studio Trigger), but also draws from earlier series like Kill la Kill (...also Trigger) and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (...pre-Studio Trigger, but made by the studio's founder). All are very over the top, but very enjoyable, and highly recommended.
This is my favorite episode because this is exactly what I was looking for in visions. Just over the top, balls to the walls crazy action, but with lightsabers and x-wings.
The twins is basically Anime Star Wars (as opposed to Star Wars Anime). What I mean by that is it has many of the......indulgences of Anime set in a Star Wars universe. It's over the top and I enjoyed it. It wasn't my favorite but it's still good
I love this short simple because it’s made by one of my favorite animation studios, Studio Trigger, they have a real tendency to go balls to the way crazy (for examples google Gurren Lagann, Kill La Kill, Space Patrol Luluco, and Darling in the Fraxx’s ending) and I love their take on Star Wars since it just bubbles it down to its base essence of being a story of choosing your path and of family.
That was a pretty spot on description of Studio Trigger. They're not the company to call for a deep rich tale that plucks your heartstrings like a classical guitarist. No, they grab your inner 5 year old and ask, "wanna see something cool?" And adult you just shuts off the parts of your brain that knows space is a vacuum and stabbing yourself with a kyber crystal shouldn't do anything but draw blood and hurt. But at the end you're not mad or thinking too hard about it because it was fun and somehow managed to check all the boxes for a Star Wars story. The Twins totally plays as something Palpatine would have done in the background, unbeknownst to everyone we're familiar with. Slim chance of success, huge payoff if it worked, and he'd learn something from it either way.
It's weird to me that I haven't seen anyone point out that B2ON is all exactly 1 less than C3PO. Also, I'm glad this one is getting love cause I felt bad for it being my least favorite. The action was just not for me.
When it comes to similarities between plot beats, character archetypes, and themes, I like to believe a reason for 9 episodes of Visions is that they can correlate with the Skywalker Saga (even though it’s just coincidence and the same Visions short can share solidarity with more than one movie - but hear me out!) I believe I cracked the code on which Visions episode is a soul partner with their Star Wars Episode: The Duel => The Empire Strikes Back Tatooine Rhapsody => Return of the Jedi The Twins => The Last Jedi The Village Bride => Attack of the Clones The Ninth Jedi => The Force Awakens T0-B1 => A New Hope The Elder => The Phantom Menace Lop and Ochō => The Rise of Skywalker Akakiri => Revenge of the Sith
“Don’t live for someone else, as long as you are alive you are free” is such a Trigger line and I love it. The visuals of Trigger’s most iconic fights (kill la kill, promare, gurren lagann) all are very visually distinct: showing a clear battle between light and dark/good and evil. They also often have a prominent character turn away from the evil and towards the good, and the stories always involve a lone/small group of heroes going up against impossible odds and persevering through sheer force of will, and these are all classic Star Wars elements. If something like the original trilogy came out today, it probably would’ve come from Studio Trigger
I loved every second of The Twins It was basically every over the top shonen anime trope I love thrown into a blender and I couldn't stop freaking out at how insane it got It's like an epic guitar solo of animation that exhausts you after but by God was it worth the ride And like you said when you stop to think about it it's got a little more in its mind too So it's basically Promare in less than 20 minutes Thank you Trigger
Out of all the shorts I just didn't care for this one. Beautifully animated for sure, as expected from Trigger, but the dialogue was on hardcore cheese mode, and the story could have been cool but man that dialogue really hurts it for me.
Thank youu, this episode recieved hate in the way that it shouldn't by people keep nit-picking stuff that was already meant to make less sense. Thanks for pointing out all of these fact and respectful opinion man
I liked this short, not my favourite of the lot but I still enjoyed it and I definitely appreciate it more after a few rewatches and checking out the BTS feature for it. I enjoyed the seriously over the top action and it took interesting concepts like the twins being born of the dark side and just ran with it. The drawn out dialogue that spells out what's happening constantly got a bit much but I feel that's more to do with me than the short itself. It's just a stylistic choice and I don't know enough about anime to know of it's common but it didn't take away from the action and what was happening so it wasn't a big deal and I still enjoyed watching.
The people who created the Twins are likely Sith Eternal cultists as the Sith cultists had the same attire. The Twins were possibly made using the DNA of Luke's hand.
I've seen this episode get a lot of hate in particular in certain spots on the internet, but I honestly don't get it. This episode is one of my favorites. Sometimes it's perfectly valid for something to go absolutely off the walls, otherwise what's the point of creative freedom?
Honestly, this was my least favorite episode of the batch, but that's mostly because it's just not to my taste and I'm glad that others enjoyed it more than I did. Above anything, what turned me off of it was the over-the-top, on-the-nose, screaming dialogue that seem to be characteristic to some anime. Just not my thing.
I do not care what anyone says. The Dub of this episode is Amazing. If there is an option for Neil Patrick Harris to be in it, you gotta take that option.
A question I’ve had floating in my head is “who is considered the most powerful character in Star Wars?” Whether that’s legends like Starkiller or Darth Nilus or Luke during the yu zong vong war, or rather canon stories like Vader or yoda or Rey and even outside of legends or canon like the twins, Karre and Am. Who could be considered the most powerful character??
Did anyone else notice how similar this short was to kill la kill? Artificially created super powered twins, fascist regime, super powered cloths, over the top visuals, etc.
I think this one might be ranked 8th place of the 9 shorts. About all it has going for me are the bombastic action and visuals. The story itself is not all that interesting to me and the dialog I find to be groan worthy half the time. So much exposition happens that I have to watch it dubbed, and even then, the only thing I really like is Alison Brie's portrayal as Am. I know her best as Unikitty from the LEGO Movies, so it's just fun to hear Angrykitty going ham in Star Wars. From "ROOOOAR!!! You all need to be more FRIENDLY!!!" to "Must I remind you of the purpose of your birth!" That's nice.
I was a little unsure with this episode. Mostly because they kept saying that what they were doing was "in service of the Dark Side". To me, the mentality of a sith should always be "the Dark Side is operating in service of me". If they made it "in service of the Empire" instead, I wouldn't have this gripe, which is admittedly a nit-pick
Occasionally some good visuals, but overall I thought there was just too much dumb and not enough anything else for me to hang on to. If I had characters to care about, or interesting ideas, I could easily forgive all the nonsense. As it stands, I was just annoyed by nothing happening making any sense, with only very simple characters yelling a very simple plot at me.
Sorry to be negative on the first 3 episodes of Visions but I didn't really like the and The Twins is probably my least favourite, it was just far to over the top and the short didn't give me any real reason to like any of the characters. However shorts 4, 5 and 6 are great and I have lots of positive thoughts on those 😃😃😃😃😃
Tbh, this episode just did not hold my attention. Like, as an animation student, I can appreciate what Trigger can do, but the actual content of the scenes just felt sorta...hollow? I dunno, and the characters just didn't interest me at all, I found myself sorta just drifting as I watched it.
