How the Yankees burnt $1B
In the realm of Major League Baseball, few names resonate with power and prestige quite like the New York Yankees. With a legacy steeped in triumph and tradition, the Yankees have long been synonymous with dominance on the diamond.
However, behind the glitz and glamour lies a cautionary tale of excess and miscalculation. Over the past two decades, the Yankees embarked on a spending spree unlike any other, amassing a staggering bill of over $1 billion on failed player contracts.

@@coachalexander4969 Do they have 20+ years of failed mega contracts? $700M scandal is still developing, let's see if it is proven out first. Perhaps they are on the same path the Yankees are on, attempting to buy championships with little to no development of their own players. Time will tell.

I can see your point to an extent, however Burnett had a losing record with the Yankees and almost a 5.00 ERA...hardly worth the money and probably could have gotten the same performance out of someone much cheaper, which may have allowed them to get some other key pieces which may have translated into more playoff wins. Tex I can see more your point of view...he had some good years but injuries were a constant factor, he only hit .248 and his OBP was on the lower side of average his final 6 years. In support of him he did hit a decent number of home runs and his fielding was very good. Thank you for your feedback and thank you for the comment!

He definitely had some good ones, but his last two games he got absolutely bombed...10.00+ era. He also lost both appearances in one and done wild card games...a place where a guy they were paying so much money should step up. I would call it a mixed performance...just one man's opinion. Post season games are almost always a toss up, the best team doesn’t always win. They make the post season almost every year. Have they had bad contracts? Yeah every team does. You can’t say they only sign the biggest names when they chose Clint Frazier over Bryce Harper or choosing Volpe over every big named shortstop on the market.
@BBUYTTV

The Dodgers are similar in the way they spend and have made the playoffs 10 out of the last 10 years. The Yankees have made it 7 out of 10 and haven't been in the World Series while the Dodgers have been in 3. Looks like to me a team employing a similar strategy is doing it better than the Yankees. Additionally, they have been getting beat in the standings by a team (TB Rays) who spends a fraction of their payroll and gets much better results. Who says the Yankees didn't chose Harper and others? Maybe the player didn't want to play in NY or the Yankees didn't offer enough. Nobody knows for sure. You can always come up with examples of lesser players. The bottom line is that the Yankees reputation is that they are always in the market for the top guys. They have neglected the development of their own players since the homegrown core of Jeter, Rivera, Williams, Pettite, Posada retired or moved on. Just one man's opinion. Thank you for the comment.

While their spending hasn't resulted in winning rings, the team has a whole has had unmatched financial success in return for their investment. fans have packed the stadium every night for decades and in addition to ticket sales are the uniforms, merchandise, etcetera. So its not like the money was burned because the players weren't worth it in terms of WS rings, the players made their contracts back in spades for the team. the team has also been the most consistent playoff contender for almost 3 decades straight despite only a few rings. the winning and money has not stopped rolling in with their large contracts
@BBUYTTV
@BBUYTTV 4 месяца назад
Financial success is not how the Yankees and their fans measure success. Their own standard every year is championship or bust. By that standard they haven’t met that standard. With their financial mismanagement, if they were a smaller team, their team would be mired in the bottom of the league for years. Their financial resources are the only thing keeping them competitive. Not the competency of their front office or skill in developing talent.
@JasonThomasLionHeart

@@BBUYTTV As a Yankee Fan, yes I am disappointed by the lack of championships since 2009, but I love that they are competitive year in and year out and that they are a postseason mainstay almost every season. From a strictly business stand point, their success has been unmatched. Hal is not his father, the championship or bust mentality died with George despite living on in the hearts of fans. So sorry but they are far from failures

@BBUYTTV
@BBUYTTV 4 месяца назад
Not really he is one game over .500 (5-4) with an average era (3.33) and six homers surrendered. The Yankees have many great ones and he is far down the list. Whitey Ford, Mariano Rivera, Lefty Gomez, Ron Guidry, Goose Gossage, Sparky Lyle, Waite Hoyt…I could go on with many more. All are hall of famers or near hall of fame. Tanaka is definitely not near that. Thank you for the comment.
