The British colonization of Nigeria tells a fascinating story of how the strength of the Maxim guns far outweighs a nation of more than twice the population of the United Kingdom. In this video, we take a look at how these British colonial warlords effectively conquered Nigeria for the British.

This is a nice documentary, but the story is one sided, given the narratives only from the British view point or rather narratives... The Nigerian territory of today is a territory of disparate sovereign nation's, with there different language, culture, faith, and traditional politics... The resistance of these past Kings and dynasties against the British is justifiable because the British or generally the European invasion wasn't to liberate the empires in Nigeria, but to decapitate there traditional power and independence and put it under the influence of the European nation's as a puppet and EXPLOITATION, which still continues till today... Hence, the Europeans aren't the hero's, but WOLVES IN SHEEP CLOTHING who brought in there language and culture to obliterate our identities... Our Kings might not be perfect, but they were people who were true to there root for centuries... In other words we need not to deplore our ancestors or the traditional systems that defines our identities, but to embrace and MODIFY things that needs MODIFICATIONS in culture models just like many Asian countries thereby foster our identities that best abide with the life cycle (Physical, Psychology, and Spirituality) of our Land as the copper skin race...

Ikr, in a way it's painful to see how they robbed us of our lives and forced us into a life where we had to depend on them. The only good thing that ever came from them coming here was the stop of cruel practices like killing of twins etc but otherwise we wouldn't have had to face all this nonsense today
@gzlander2948
@gzlander2948 Год назад
@@nickeni3050 And believe me. Even if they never intervened in those cruel practices, civilization would have taken care of them with time. Everything about their presence n colonization in Africa was way more harm than good. And sadly enough, we apparently haven't learnt our lesson. Quite pathetic indeed.
@nickeni3050
@nickeni3050 Год назад
@@gzlander2948 exactly, there's a saying that there's time for everything and that if you give a man something that they aren't ready for that you would be ruining the man.. The technology, the laws, everything they introduced to our people were things that we didn't need in our lives yet, as such this forced us to start depending on them for things that we didn't need thereby making us owe them Everytime I think about it, it's just sickening
@gzlander2948
@gzlander2948 Год назад
@@nickeni3050 It was just a careful manipulative n well orchestrated mind enslavement that they brought to us and we perfectly played right into their hands. Speculatively, that's why they contemptuously disregard us, always seeing us as lesser beings which lingers till this modern day racism. I'm no longer angry with them because the unfortunate reality remains that humans tend to take advantage of others' weakness n ignorance. Rather, I'm so pissed at our own people now, the elites, who in course of time, must or should have known better. Yet, they still allow such horrible history to be repeating itself. Just unimaginable!

@@atgs20 you are right. The decentralization of the IGBO Republican polities stermed from their unique Cultural ethos. They do not believe in a central king or an absolute Lordship over them and will resist such ferociously. The very few IGBO republics who at a point developed kingship didn't give absolute power to such a king. Infact, such kings were more of priests. If what I said up was correct then I have to ask why were the British here in the first place and where are they now.

All the British ever wanted was our resources, both mineral and human. They took more from us than they contributed. Talking about where they are now, you might want to go to the Niger Delta rich oil regions and find out for yourself. Even though they do not have visible influence that you can see around like in days past because of civilisation, they still have a strong hold on us, our policies and economy, even a bit of our politics.

You guys will never stop given bias information and incomplete information that's why nigeria remains the way it's today. You cannot narrate the story of the formation of nigeria and skip the sagas between the Benin kingdom and the British?

Why this is obvious bollocks, will be apparent if you ask 'cui bono'? ('who benefits'; or the traditional test of whether there has been a crime). Because if the colonisation of Nigeria was a 'crime', then certainly Britain, nor any white man ever benefitted from it. Rather, to the extent Nigeria has any organising principle or coherence, it's because of the British Empire. But I guess it's easier to blame someone else, isn't it Nigerians?
