It was a very difficult task to plot a coup against Gen. Ibrahim Babangida’s regime because of his ubiquitous and omnipresent intelligence agencies.
In this video, we will explain the failed Gideon Orka coup of April 22, 1990.
We will answer the questions; was it really a Gideon orka coup?
Who were the core initiators and planners of the coup, and what was their motivation? Why did the coup fail? And lastly, we will look at the trial and execution of Gideo Orka and others.
Hello, Hello, Hello Hisplers, welcome to another history video on Hisple media.

Brilliant. This video took my back in time. As a child living with my parents in Dodan barrack, I remember waking up to the bang of a bomb. As I scampered for safety, my mum held me saying I shouldn't panic. That there was a coup. I asked where my dad was and she said he was around. I made sure I saw my dad, knowing anyone could be taken out by the coup plotters. That was one of the bodiest sundays I've seen.

I was on my way to church that Sunday morning, when the coup broadcast filtered into the air. The broadcast was just lengthy. Painfully, the coup failed. But one thing certain is that: all that the coupists mentioned, are what is being experienced today. None has been tackled. Except for the late Abacha who gave everybody a sense of belonging, by creating six goe-political zones to correct some of the problems of marginalization. However, it is just an ice in the cake. Perhaps, God would have just allowed the coup to succeed. Because lessons have not been learnt from the resultant. Funnily, when either of coupusts or heads of states succeeds in such moment, either of them will become the villain while the one that succeeds is the victor. May their souls and the loyal troops rest in peace always.

Thanks for this video. My father made me study why the coup failed. I remember in the battle for Ikeja Cantonment when the mutineers ran out of ammunition. The support weapons they were expecting in a fish truck were attacked just before Ikeja which meant the mutineers did not have weapons and Bamiyi pounced on that opportunity. I also remember when Chris Garuba and Abacha entered Radio House it was rugged. Then the blowing up of the presidential quarters in Dodan Barracks you could see the clock on the wall in IBB's room. The fallout of the coup meant IBB had to rejig signals in the Army. The signal barracks in Mile 2 was later closed down. You also missed the role the Navy under the command of Aikhomu played especially NNS Aradu. IBB never trusted Abacha but after that coup, he gave some trust to Abacha. You are right on why the coup failed as a child then we arrived at almost similar reason.

@masudsaleh5155 continue to copy and paste like the clown you are. This is logical fallacy appeal to hypocrisy at the highest order. 1) the Igbo population did not back the Ironsi regime. So claiming that “Igbos” created this is false. 2) there have been many republics and constitutions since February 1966, and all of them elected to not have federalism. None of those decisions were made by Igbos, they were made by northerners 3) unlike Ironsi, these northern dictators actually had support from the northern populace. Therefore it’s totally justified to blame northerners as a whole who back and glorify this decisions 4) at the current time it’s the Igbos who oppose Nigeria and it’s the north who defends Nigeria. So you saying “the Igbos started it” isn’t an argument because you are the one defending it today.

The lessons learned have not been heeded. The reasons Orkar gave are still prevalent today. Marginlizstion, injustice from lack of resource control, etc. I am not a fan of PDP, but I must confess that. PDP led by Obasanjo, Ya adua, and Good luck handled our diversity commendably well. These rascals and religious fundamentalists called APC stoke the religious bear and divided this country. Forced themselves on Nigerians through the rigging of the national election thereby putting the future of this country in jeopardy. Forcing your will on the people in the guise of democracy equal to a military coup. The military force their way just the same way politicians force themselves in through rigging. I am afraid it is time to truncate this republic. A military is needed again in Nigeria. It is clear our wicked politicians have not learnt from our dark past. GMB should hand over to the military. We are not ready for democracy. After all the politicians have looted much more than the military. I don't care about western hypocrisy.

When I was at the command and staff college Jaji. I realized one thing about a coup d'etat. A coup will fail if the society is not calling for it. No coup d'etat will succeed in Nigeria if the coup plotters ask a faction of Nigeria to leave Nigeria. If you are going to carry out a coup d'etat in Nigeria, justify your coup with enough evidence, and substantial reasons which the Nigerian society witness day in day out in the current government.

Y is this coup not called a Niger delta coup??
@HispleMedia
@HispleMedia 2 года назад
Well, Max Siollun called it so...you are free to call it so since the key planners were from the Niger delta and were fighting for the region and the Middle belt. Thanks for your feedback.

All the issues raised by Orkar are still prevalent in the Nigerian society and are worse, especially under the regime of "Mr Integrity",the worst president since independence. Meanwhile, the coup was a suicide mission

That the coup plotters wanted to implicate their members who were freed does not go well with me. I thought it should have been "one for all and all for one" kind of thing. Secondly, it was a poorly planned coup. U can't be planning a coup and leave telephone lines on in the city. They should have studied how ibb did his. Nice story i must say. Kudos
@AdamaMichael-rc6ez

Exactly but I find it difficult to believe that they complained about their freed co plotters but I read somewhere was that they told Babangida that he should not think he has escaped by executing them because there are more guys lurking in the corner
