Nigeria is a common mistake by our forefathers, I'll never regret saying this. Africa is grace-land, but we use self-interest to kill our own lives and the future of our generations, this is pathetic I always think more than twice before I tell people that I came from Nigeria, a country that God blesses, but look at what our madness leaders turn us to...

I remember the oil workers strike that had to make us trek for miles to get firewood and sawdust to cook. There was this morbid fear of Abacha as anyone who was critical of this government risked imprisonment and death. People dared not talk against him in public. I still remember the wide spread jubilation on the streets after he the announcement of his death. How bad can one be for one's death to cause joy in others Very dark times it was for Nigeria. This channel should be made compulsory for youths for them to know what happened in their country Because as I see it, we are still going round in circles. The same issues then are still very present now Best channel so far. God bless

Omo, late Gen. Abacha really looted Nigeria's treasury that even today, most of the money recovered and returned is helping Nigeria to offset some of their debt. Also to mention that Abacha's rule produced the longest ASUU strike of close to 2 years, the worst ever. In my own opinion, even if Babangida did not annul the June 12 elections, i think Abacha would still had overthrown the civilian rule, because he was then the highest ranking commander of the army and this phenomenon had happened in the past when Buhari overthrew the then Shagari rule. But in conclusion, Abacha's rule was very scary as i can remember as very little as i was then, on hearing his death, great jubilation broke out across my neighborhood of Ebute meta and beyond. Continue to rest in peace MKO Abiola and Ken Saro Wiwa as the struggle for a new and better Nigeria continues.

Look if Abacha intended to take over he would have done so easily but he stood by the interim government until the situation in the country got worse. Prominent people from the south came out begging him to remove the interim government even at its inception. He never went abroad for medical treatment, he increased the price of fuel and used the money for infrastructural development building schools, roads, access to water, hospitals etc across the country evenly. He stabilized the naira, reduced inflation and reduced Nigerias debt all under sanctions and you have the temerity to label him evil and corrupt? He never left the country except to one or 2 African countries.

Observation: 1) Nigeria NEVER had Dictatorship. Perhaps, military 'aristocracy.' 2) Babangida's regime favored Abiola by banning other veritable politicians minus Abiola. Hence Abiola defeated a relatively unknown Tofa (newly imported from London but of Nigerian heritage). 😉 . Realistically, that election process was free but unfair. They annulled under 'pressure'/ inevitable impending coup. MKO himself assumed he was well connected to the military regime to be banned or disqualified like previous politicians 🤔. 3) By a stroke of luck Shonekan's administration ironically represented a true 'made in Nigeria' fair and balance government. However Nigerian political elites then preferred a 'mirage' but ideal (though not quite suitable) American style 'Democracy'. That has proven elusive. I welcome a rejoinder!
