Phil Adams Oh actually liked the Constantine movie (Tilda Swinton as Gabriel was awesome) but it really wasn't anything like the comic and should have been a completely separate story on itself imo.
I agree, its the only one that doesn't look like he's wearing underwear on the outside. The old suit look like superman just left a pajama party. The new suit appears durable; conveys a sense of strength and style at the same time, without sacrificing a sophisticated look.
I actually like Wonder Woman's new look. She's an amazon warrior, it makes sense for her to wear armor. It seems like a lot of DC characters are getting suits that resemble armor. Instead of brightly colored spandex. Don't get me wrong, I'm huge fan of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman's older looks. However, the updated versions look fine to me. The Justice League heroes are warriors, and warriors wear armor not spandex.
@@Igot4balls I honestly compared wonder woman comic to the wonder woman in the movies. I just thought of it as ironic when the amazons showed up and they were much muscular than wonder woman in the movie. Though of course the comics do show wonder woman's arms as muscular like the amazons in the movie. Though I always thought wonder woman in the movies would have more muscular arms like in the comics most of the time though she does play the role well.
The headline is misleading. It is a good analysis of how costumes for DC heroes look in their latest incarnations, -- actually well researched and sourced, if you are a Gen-Xer and keep track of the DCU. It does NOT really address (except a few hat tips) the original costumes and, most importantly, does NOT overlay what the costumes "should" be. It just is a sort of thumbs-up (90%)/thumbs down where we think the costumes came from YT segment. LOOPER -- if you have a POV, man up and present it.
Aquaman''s color scheme always reminded me of a silly sea going carrot. Jason Momoa's look is perfect: tribal and totally badass. He looks like he could rip a person in half with his bare hands.
Awkwardman sort of dressed like Batman but in all blue and with flippers on his feet even when he was walking and not swimming. He's a member of the Inferior 5. He would trip over his flippers and trip over his long cape.
supermans outfit is spot on, bat mans outfit is spot on, wonder woman's outfit is spot on, aqua mans outfit is spot on, flash's outfit is spot on. you guys just flat out hate dc
Are you really saying AquaMan's costume is comic accurate? I love his costume in the dceu but the only comic book accurate thing about him is his hair and facial hair
Lord Billionaire Black Belt Gees dude really, you went there. I was talking as a fan of the fantasy genre. For those of you who don't speak it I meant that someone more athletic who actually looks like they could lift a sword and shield, not someone who spent their times posing in underwear. I figure a body type more like Xena or Ronda Rousey
Eh, yeah. Thing is in almost all the comics she does have a generic slim super model body type so I guess they are just staying true even if I think a hero with super strength should have some muscle like all the other heroes
pseudo-ethnic? You mean because he's part jew? Race is the least important part of most superheroes(excluding a few such as Black Panther). And he seemed more nerdy than hipsterish in the trailer.
I haven't read the comics, but I think that Grant Gustin portrays the Flash very well. I've seen people who HAVE read the comics say he does a very good job also. And who cares about his ethnicity? Who cares about his size? To be honest, it makes more sense to me that a person who is constantly running would be skinny and not have too much fat or anything.
I say 5'7"-5'10", blonde and definitely not a hipster or a Grant Gustin wimpster. Neil Patrick Harris's animated version of Barry/Flash in Justice League: New Frontier is perfect. Barry being a mid-westerner, not having the abilities and stature of Superman, Wonder Woman and the Batman would surely have him feeling kind of small by comparison. New Frontier Barry felt exactly that way.
Except they were actually colorful, stood out, and were iconic. Instead of grey and drab. Works for Batman, definitely doesn't look good on Superman or Wonder Woman.
***** Hardly. Cap wears bright red, white and blue, Vision is yellow, red and green, Iron Man is gold and silver, and then there's Spiderman. All have had current movies. Also, Christopher Reeves really pulled that look off even by today's standards, he looked like if Superman stepped out of the comics.
I think she tried to shape up. But her exercise routine was to much cardio and barely any strength training. Which of course leads to muscle loss, when you don't strength train at all.
How? Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, and Black Widow are perfect, Captain America has had plenty of costume tweaks that match what he has in the movies, and Hawkeye wore garish purple in the comics and I'm clad they switched it out. It would have been so out of place.
+David Bruder I think he means falcon, hawkeye and the fact thor barely wears his helmet. Scarlet witch is a bit off too. Other than that everything looks pretty accurate.
I personally like all the costume changes, they look more practical. I just think it looks awkward and almost unbelievable seeing the bright colored thin spandex in reality. It feels out of place. But with the change, It's easy on the eyes, and just over all pleasing to look at (for the reality setting)
Some of them works, like okay, I always liked the Batman Forever suit, especially the silver one he wore at the end. Nowadays we hate it, but back in the day, it was actually quite state of the art and we liked it. The Dark Knight Trilogy did a nice job with their suit being more like a state of the art army suit, and Justice League did a nice job with the suit being more traditional military, but I personally find he looks fat in it lol. Superman's suit is amazing, I love it
The designers of the "Arrowverse" TV costumes have actually said that spandex style costumes, like in the comics, don't transfer well to someone actually wearing them onscreen as it just looks cheap and weird. That is the reason why all the movie and TV adaptations of comic books, when they had an actual budget, designed their costumes as a sort of armoured bodysuit instead of a spandex ones that were in adaptations up until the 1980's when they switched.
Actually, It would be more "realistic" for Supergirl to keep changing her outfit style, considering her age. She should stick to a style for a while, then make a single change for a few episodes, then (keeping within the style), completely changing everything like she was almost doing a fashion change montage. For most of the character life of Supergirl, she is under the age of 25.
Problem is where do you get the fabric from. Krypton is destroyed. The only kryptonian fabric is from her capsule. Maybe the deo has created fabric that can withstand high speeds without burning. Flash has a scientific lab and a genius scientist to create his costumes.
Gal Gadot as WonderWoman was a very good choice, BUT they should have given her blue contact lenses for the movie(s). One of Diana's features from comics and animated series/films I always remenber is her bright blue eyes
he forgot henry cavill isnt exactly super tall being shorter than ben afflecks batman. Superman was suppose to be 6'6 and batman 6'4 their original heights as stated during the christopher reeves superman era where it was distinguished he had the height and the build and look.
Nah, I don't have a problem with The costume, with i do have a problem is that he should be SUPERMAN! That smiling guy we all know and love, not a fucking emo!
I like the SuperGirl and Wonder Woman costume the best Followed by the sleeveless one of Green Arrow Aquaman looks cool as well, pity he didn't have much to do in the JL movie Superman and Batman look ok,but the transition from torso to legs is not very smooth.A belt of some kind would have helped a lot. Batman From Nolan's universe was amazing.
I still say Christian Bale's Dark knight suit is the most BADASS suit ever! Not the batman begins one but the second one he dawns in dark knight. So tactical and military like.
I actually like Superman's costumes now. The red underwear over the blue tights just looked so corny. Plus, they made some great acting choices for Aquaman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Gal is ex-Israeli military, and she was awesome as Gisele in the Fast and the Furious franchise. Jason Momoa is going to be awesome as Aquaman. He was a badass in Game of Thrones and as Conan. His costume is awesome, the green and orange suit he wore in the comics was just tacky looking. Henry is by far the best modern day Superman. Tom Welling was great as him on Smallville, but Brandon Routh's performance was a little too wooden for me.
LoL @ "ex-Israeli military'. This spin by WB needs to die. Gadot fulfilled compulsory service in her home country, not like she volunteered. She alsoo pursued a modeling career _while_ _in_ _the_ _army_. Yes, you heard that correctly. The Israeli army was only too happy to oblige, and she was like some poster girl for them. If you think they seriously put her through anything tough you're delusional. It's why she came away from the military looking like a 90-lb. stick and _still_ looked like a 90-lb. stick after her so-called "grueling training routine" for _BvS_. She's a supermodel, nothing more. Read the facts and stop pretending.
+DarkVoid they are looking at him to play the crow. he's got the intimidation thing going for him. but dude will have to lose mad weight to be a better fit I think
When they cast Momoa in Stargate Atlantis, I thought, "Bleah, a Klingon ripoff, must we?" By the end of the series, I realized Ronon Dex had become my favorite character--tragic in some ways, but also funny, which you need to be a survivor. The Conan movie makers purposely removed all humor from the movie, which was a mistake; I think it would have been more of a hit if there was an occasional bit of comedy between the intense scenes, plus Momoa is great at snark. I hope they let Aquaman say something snarky and funny once in a while, so not too dark and somber constantly. Momoa would have been perfect in the Marvel U as Prince Namor; sadly they'll never hire him for that now since he has DC cooties on him! ;)
teenygozer He's part of what made _SG:A_ my favorite show. That ensemble cast was great, as was the show. Take the casting of Heyerdahl as Todd the Wraith for example, after he had already played a costarring role. Brilliant casting, as the guy was phenomenal in the role.
+Dominick Thompson I think Momoa's aquaman is gonna become a lot of ppl new favorite superhero. as you said, the orange and green made him SO underrated
Nostalgia is the only thing keeping my love for these characters alive. That said, people can like whatever they want, no biggie (It's back issues for me)!!!
depends.maybe one like this an hour or two.but preparation might take longer so like thinking of what you will say, download the clips and pictures ect and then recording your voice
Quite some time. In this video alone, there's what, a hundred different pictures and video files to go with the spoken text? (I only counted for Supergirl and it was 12 for her alone). Selecting those, finding the right spots and turning the entire thing into a narrative takes time.
musiclover An Amazonian warrior princess wearing dressing like some star spangled back allley prostitute was an unbelievable aesthetic, so I think her new look is a lot better fitting. I also think that the world's greatest detective would understand that underwear is designed to be worn underneath the legs and not over them. Aquaman always looked ridiculous, so the new look actually gives the character a bit of justice for once.

"How DC superheroes look" ... That should be the name of the video. You are explaning something, not showing "How they should really look"
The fact that his mask doesn't cover his nose (for both the cinematic and television versions) is actually faithful to the comics. Barry Allen's costume doesn't cover his nose. It was the Wally West version of the Flash that covered his nose in the comics (one of several differences in their designs - including a darker color and having the thinner lightning bolt around his waist that is separated with a gap in the front).Still, I don't care for the cinematic universe's armor-ish version. It too reminiscent of the design used in the Gods Among Us game, which looked horrible in my opinion.
Actually, that's not armour, that's just his costume. That's like saying Superman's suit is armour. It's not. That's also a prototype suit made solely by Flash with stolen bits of NASA equipment and 3D printers (plastic). Also, Grant's costume looks like absolute shit.
basically the dc live action is great to People Who dont like comics. Immoral Batman and Superman who kill people, Aquaman who dont have absolute any resemblance with the character in looks or personality, clothes to please people who make fun of comics, Wonder Woman that is a copy of Xena, etc.. I understanding Why DC failing and Marvel not. DC is not DC.
The only characters I need to see done right are Venom on the Marvel side and Power Girl on the DC side. If you can't get simple and perfect right, then you shouldn't be doing costume designs.
I prefer the traditional Superman outfit, although the actor Cavill does a fine job. The new costume is too dark and depressing. I don't care for the FAT BAT insignia. Wonder Woman's costume looks okay, but I much prefer the image shown at 2:36. The flash on TV is better than the movie, Green Arrow should have a beard and mask. What can I say? I'm just old school.
Texture on outfits make them look authentic not fake and plain like the older screen versions. They figured that out when they realized that environmental light changes.
Martian manhunter's costume in supergirl pretty much nailed it but it would have looked a lot better with his new 52 emblem the markings on his suit he had in young justice
She's an Amazon so you'd think she'd dress like one, which in the movie she does. In the comic she's dressed more like a female Captain America with the red, white and blue outfit covered in stars.
Originally wonder woman was all about kinky bondage. They recently made a good movie about it - the guy who created her also invented the lie detector with his wife
Goddamn... Gal Gadot and the lady playing Supergirl are both really hot. Gal Gadot will forever be my favorite version of Wonder Woman. Can't say I've seen the DC TV Shows, but now I'm thinking I need to go watch them...
Yes they're doing everything they can think of to getaway from the red, white and blue color scheme . No big surprise there . Flash looks more like Dare devil . Which was a great movie staring Ben Affleck BTW
OH NO! :) I liked the Red Tornado's costume. Pretty good for a TV show. Would make a killer Holloween costume. The way it was portrayed, however, left a lot to be desired.
Mlucious67 isnt there a scene in justice league or bvs or man of steel where his hair kinda falls into the little curl? Could be wrong but i thought i saw that somewhere
***** You mean the Indigo that's more turquoise in the comics. And even then, looks like Mystique from X-men: Evolution? NB4: Indigo 1st appeared months after the last episode of X-men: Evolution.
***** So you are going to ignore why they changed her color to that shade of blue... That's like Captain America showing up in a Superman costume in the next MCU movie and saying characters look different than their comic book counterpart.
oh dear God! red tornado! what happened? where is the DC fanbase? why aren't they angry? why those he look like that? he's all inside out and upside down and wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong!!!
+Hero Fall ok. iDC usually nails the costumes. marvel likes to be "creative" while DC wants to accurate. that's why DC fans don't care. and for the record I'm DC fan. I don't like marvel. I just like deadpool.
+biznu bizzness or I'm at work. i used my break to leave a comment and left. little did you know. we're both dc fanboys. nice try on making assumptions though.
you must be a fucking idiot if you think anything makes inhumans look good. flas his awesome but super girl is crappy but nothing can compare to the shittiness of inhumans.
The Supergirl costume looks like bad cosplay, it's certainly not the "best dressed on TV". Why couldn't they have just made it a version of Henry Cavill's outfit?
alll those are fine the ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS FOR WONDERWOMEN in the movies. The should have casted someone taller as the from when I was a kid up until now she was always a tall Amazon. Not this sort problem here. but I also wish that Aquaman sported his Orange and Green, but thats hollywood for you.
Agreed. They should've casted someone taller and slightly more muscular/toned. Also, I'm not fond of Gal Gadot's accent. It doesn't fit WW at all, given that she's literally never had an accent like that (not to my knowledge, anyway).
+Rayne I totally agree, I am not sure I like the idea as Gal Gadot being Wonder Woman, she looks more like a model than an Amazon. She needs more muscle, tallness, and just the confidence of Wonder Woman.
Nate Edwards I'm not saying that it's illogical. I just don't like when character adaptations differ from the previous versions in such a blatant way. Gal Gadot's voice and demeanor is nothing like the WW that I've seen in the past, which I don't like. That's fine, though. It's their movie, and there's certainly no rule stating that an adaptation of a character must be exactly the same as the previous versions.
Gadot is 5'10" which is kinda tall for a woman. I don't want a Britney Griner looking ass chick standing next to Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill lol. There are no actresses that are 6'+ in Hollywood that look like WW and can actually act. You're asking for too much. This was a good as they could get. I personally think she looks a lot like WW and will do well in the role. I liked her in BvS.
Henry Cavil not only doesn't look like Superman his mannerisms are different. Cavil really should play a sneering Roman gladiator or pasty white sneering vampire. Don't get me wrong he is a fine actor but wrong for the role of Superman. He is horribly miscast. He just doesn't have the warmth of Christopher Reeves or even Brandon Routh. The most iconic and enduring thing about Superman is that his alter ego Clark is a friendly hardworking everyman. Even when he is Superman his humanity shines through. Superman radiates what is good in men. Cavil does not emote that strength and innocence that Christopher Reeve or Brandon Routh have.
Louis Babycos Compared to Christopher Reeve they both seem similar. Dingy dark costumes like the corrupted bad Superman in Superman III. Depressing downbeat manner.
I think Cavill "looks" okay as Superman but I don't like how dark the character has become. It's depressing. I liked Routh's portrayal of Superman much better, though the Superman Returns script absolutely sucked (and as far as I'm concerned what especially ruined Superman Returns was the Superman/Lois Lane have a baby together that she hasn't told him about crap). I like how Tyler Hoechlin has portrayed Superman on the Supergirl TV series.
I call them "titty armor". What male heroes? On that note, you should look up the Hawkeye Initiative. It is hilarious and completely right on the money, but is funny because it clashes with the silently and often-spoken claim that women are things to look at. Where sexualization and product-driven obsession over one's looks is marketed (often by profit-seeking companies) to girls and women as "power", though what useful "power" this would be remains a mystery.
According to Wikipedia, from 60 AD to 200 AD, female gladiators existed as a form of entertainment beyond the typical male-only gladiatorial entertainment. This is not war. Titty armor does not exist outside of entertainment.
"I'm The Flash" "The who now?" Love that line, and yes I agree that Supergirl dresses the best. I love how DC went on and chose that outfit cause the other ones don't seem child friendly for her.
+arek migdesyan because it has been shown in comics sometimes. plus to draw a distinction between tv verse and movie verse. plus it might be that barry doesn't know how to handle speed force that's why the lightning goes haywire. Plus in BvS when he comes to warn Bruce his lightning is white. Which is the purest form of harnessing speed force.
all I know is that most of the times someone comes like " my idea is better than the former ones", he sucks at it. change it a bit, but keep the identity.
Grant Gustin's flash suit does not only look absolutely ridiculous, it also seems very impractical. I mean have you ever tried running in leather? It's impossible.
I am sooo tired to hear about this fucking red - underpants - thing,i can´t take it in words. Batman wore for ages blue / black "underpants" and nobody complained and many other superheroes. It doesn´t bother me.
