I love how people get so ticked off about Wonder Woman wearing the colors of the American flag, in the comics it is Amazon tradition for their ambassador to wear the colors and symbols of the nation they are going to. Wonder Woman first went to America so she wore the stars and stripes, if she had went to the United Kingdom first it would have been the Union Jack.
That's a retroactive explanation, and a dumb one at that considering she's literally the first and only ambassador Themyscira ever had in most continuities.
One can lampshade Black Canary's fashion sense by explaining it as a conscious choice to attract attention to her legs. Which is a bad place to focus one's attention when fighting someone trained in boxing by Wildcat.
Dressing as a prostitute from the 1990s really doesn't make sense... her outfit reminds of something you'd see in a Deathwish movie or the video game Streets Of Rage. But for more realistic storytelling, especially for the modern day, dressing the way she does really makes no sense. :/
Black canary has a skimpy outfit because she wants men to judge her as "just a woman" or even, as a streetwalker. in the comics she is even judged by the mostly male League and goes on to hand batman his ass and beats the flash. in a non serious sparring match. Canary is a bad ass who uses sexism to her advantage
I think the CW redesign was bad.... the smallville one was ok. He has he same one as hawkgirl's. It's been her design for quite a while so it just looks kinda feminine.
As a fan of the CW Flash series, I just hate this flash so much!! I can't see anyone else other than Grant playing Barry. But I've always had a huge crush on Grant so that might also be to blame!
I believe the changes were because of legal restrictions, when there was a battle between DC/Warner Bros and the Siegel heirs. They needed to change at least 20% of the costume...the solution was to remove the trunks. There were other restrictions at the time. I guess even after winning the battle, Warner Bros decided to just stick with the trunk-less Superman.
2011, actually, with that New 52 bullshit. -.- Seriously... fuck that shit... and if you want to go even further back, we could touch on Superman Red/Blue back in the 90's, or the black regeneration suit, which also did not have the trunks.
I think they should take cues from the birdy the mighty anime, and make it more like plates or something. Something with definition. And It looks body painted... why. Dude looks almost too muscular in the arms, that stands out too much. It doesn't look like armor at all. And I think they could have put red down there like a crotch piece type thing, just like a triangular plate or something.
I like the material his suit seems made out of, but I hate how it looks for different reasons. It doesn't look good being all one color like that, the chest part would look better if it was white, and he had golden wrists and feet/boots. The chin thing is fuckin wierd. It should stop at his neck under his chin there and not fucking touch it for no reason like that.
I really like Katie Cassidy, I personally loved her as Ruby on Supernatural... however... let's be honest, she doesn't have much of a figure and she is pretty thin, so seeing her in fishnets and a tight black leather bodysuit wasn't going to go over very well... I think she'd look pretty silly. :/
was thinking the same. I saw a bikini picture of her after she was killed and off and her body was plenty fine... and I wasn't looking for it, it was a report about whether she'd be in the show or not and that's what they went with
Doesn't look to bad to me cdn04.cdn.justjaredjr.com/wp-content/uploads/pictures/2015/12/cassidy-continues2/katie-cassidy-continues-miami-vacation-17.jpg
You are "Pretty"? -- Didn't Pretty have a five year run in the Marvel Universe? She used her secret Venusian Pretty Potion Power to snare rich bad guys destroying them with community property awards. She wore a pink and black spandex negligee to Justice League meetings. Sadly for the character, in a backstory arc, it was revealed that her victims weren't criminals at all, but she used secret Venusian Pretty Potion Power to manipulate them. The readers didn't like that idea, and she was canceled but remains alive in the hearts of every Feminist. If you are Pretty, remember that with great power comes great responsibility.
The armored flash look was horrible, I also can't stand the DCEU version of Superman, it's like they took him and said "lets make him more bat-manish so they can fight in the next movie" and did that. Also the Superman Returns issue was not the costume, it was the fact they tried to make it a romance film first.
yeah they were trunks like wrestlers are the modern equivalent or other atheletic wear, like mma and volley ball. The size of it changes. 2006 was on the short side. It looks different depending on the artist, some make them look like shorts even
A. It is already doomed, and B. They did a shit load of reshoots like they did for Suicide Squad and BvS and we all remember how those movies went. Don't get your hopes up.
The reason the flash wears armor is because he is not a billionaire able to by clothes that don't burn up. He has to get old NASA satilights because they can withstand the heat!!
Treman Plays so you're telling me he's not wearing armour, he's wearing a dish. No wait! Multiple dishes, pretty sure Barry Allen is meant to be super smart. You're comment makes me think of him as a homeless man digging for metal scraps to repurpose.
But the Flash really shouldn't need armor because, originally, he had an aura that protected him from friction and heat while running fast. Of course, maybe they changed that after the introduction of the Speed Force, I dunno.
"Golden" armor, not gold armor. Golden is an adjective meaning "appearing like gold" or "gold colored". You'd think that a British person would know English.
Andrew Johnson I think that when he said golden he meant gold because he probably would have checked the meaning of golden so he had prove why they changed Aquamans costume.
No Way there is no way you could EVER PAINT "chain mail" [I's SCALE MAIL dumbass.] Gold! You would also assume a guy who's whoes country was around when people faught in armor would have gotten a chapter or two on armor of the time.
While most have reason to be "updated" to be "more realistic," I think it is being lost that these characters are larger than life. Sometimes, we get so bogged down with "realism" that we forget the premise and powers of most superheroes are either simply impossible, silly, or more danger than aid! However, the DCEU's Flash suit for Ezra Miller is nonsensical. THIS is, as the vid pointed out, a character for whom the sleek full-body spandex would not only make sense but be a bonus."But, the other guys have armor-y looking stuff on!" Yes, but each comic series has its own flavor. Some are well-suited to dark grimness and other demand a brighter look and tone. The JLA come together - in their own lives' spare times - to protect Earth. Differences.
Yeah, thank goodness we don't see her showing off her legs. That'd be horrible. Amirite? Tight, shiny leather is well-known for its maneuverability and protective properties.
It still always makes me laugh when they go with the new Superman.. it has to look realistic and believable.. because.. we all know how realistic looking that fight with Zod went.. -.-
Don't tell that to these fanboys who literally want exact copies of the costumes from the comics no matter how ridiculous and impractical it would look in live action
1) having armor for a speedster: if I am running at super speeds and something like dust particles or debris hits the flash, yes, he can heal, but to have armor that can deflect it would allow his recovery to focus only on damage from direct attacks from opponents. 2) weight of armor: new materials are lightweight and nearly indestructible. search only and you'll see that there are shirts/suits/pants/etc made that can withstand gunshots that don't weigh that much more than normal clothing. expensive? yes, but I'm sure a speedster who can learn and comprehend at super speeds could learn how to earn bitcoin and invest to counter the cost of an expensive outfit. 3) the fibers connecting the armor: if I were a speedster, I would have that as well as they would allow for give and retraction when accelerating and decelerating at super speeds. Those are the only 3 things I can think of so fare for why they did what they've done to the suit. I think it's cool. I like the CW's version better, but just like any comic multiverse, I like when the design of costumes diversify a bit.
louisalectube I agree with the Flash costume. Armor wouldn't be so bad, they should've redesigned it at least. Cyborg is understandable, he's a freaking cyborg. Only CGI can help him.
louisalectube Cyborg looks like he got scrap metal for limbs and flash looks like he stumbled through a hot rod auto show. Cyborg has too many little bits of metal that he looks like a mini transformer and Flash's outfit has no symmetry or aesthetic.
You are Disgusting considering it's something he designed himself, I like it. He's supposed to get an upgrade. Besides, the leather Grant wears makes 0 sense. That would burst into flames if he could really go that fast. Ezra's is at least made of parts scraped by NASA. Don't get me wrong, it works for the show, but Ezra's makes more sense.
I appreciate the backstory DC is creating for Ezra's Flash costume, but it simply doesn't look good. I have problems with Grant's costume, too, but I think his cowl looks great. Of the costumes DC has designed for Justice League, Flash and Cyborg look the worst.
metimoteo the thing is, it doesn't have to look good right now. It has to be functional. The hope is that when he gets his actual suit, it can be both.
the flash is the fastest person on earth and you think that a couple extra kgs of armor is really going to make a difference when no human alive can catch him regardless?
It might. His super power makes all of his body mass superfast, but clothing doen't have that superpower so he'd have to carry it around and accelerate and decelerate the armor
He doesnt actually just run fast he manipulates the speed force so id imagine itd act like a field so anything within the vacinity of his field would be manipulated aswell
But but but I(n REAL LIFE runners don't wear anything other than a tank top, Sports & Sport shoes. They should toss out the armor & put him in that more REALISTIC Track suit. Who's going to believe a man can run that fast in a silly costume.
Leather and Fishnet Canary looks better to me tbh “Over time the clothes covering Wonder Woman’s nether regions got shorter, tighter and skimpier...” Just the way i like it.
i think they should have done something based off of injustice 2 for her, the costumes were more practical but still had a little bit of the fishnet design and looked cool, and they probably would have looked good on a real person. in some of the costumes she was almost completely covers in leather/Armour but still had fishnet detailing in it, it couldn't have been any worse than her costume in the show, anyways.
Maybe Ezra Miller's Flash outfit is the worst choice for an obvious reason: A character who relies only on his speed shouldn't wear something that makes him heavier thus slower. Runners wear tights for a reason: its low weight allows them to exploit what they are designed for: Speed. Also skin tight spandex reduces friction which allows to become even faster.
You do know there is such a thing as light metals that are stronger than titanium right? Like so light it can be placed on a dandelion and it would be unharmed. Boeing.
And are those metals as elastic as spandex? No. Anyway none of those metals will be as light as tights. And like I said before for a character who depends only on his speed every little amount less of weight counts. More when (in the comics too) the faster he moves his mass increases exponentially to suposedly infinite making his body harder than any armor he could carry. At top speed he can lend a punch capable to KO even Superman with very little damage to his own bones. It's real physics but has happened in the comics too. Some strange guy had that idea. I think his name was Albert Einstein. BAZINGA.
5:20 One of the MAIN reasons why Hawkgirl was in the Justice League animated show, was because the producers wanted more than one female superhero in the show. They didn't want Wonder Woman to be the only one. They were really trying to diversify the show, which is another reason why the show had John Stewart be the Green Lantern for the show. I remember reading about all of this when the show first debuted.
Yeah ik it was never really going to happen, it just would've been so sick. Even as a massive CW flash fan, I wouldn't have minded a 6-month break or whatever to see Grant in the movie.
Yes of course, it is made by cisco a science nerd hahaha... from the movie, ezra miller just build his own suit. I want to see batman invent new suit for flash.
The only way to make Hawkman (and Hawkgirl) work in Legens of Tomorrow would have been two different actors. Maybe two that were actually able to, you know, act? And yea, Black Canary and her fishnets. Or as Savant said it once: "You could even put them on a goat and men would still be attracted."
I love the Classic Uniform of Superman he should be a person who doesn't care about his appearance and only care for the safety of his fellow man that's what Superman should be!
I dont like Black Canary's outfit in the tv show i mean the mask part is find but i would prefer to keep to the normal outfit many cosplays shown it could be done well
they could have done better on the costume, not full fledged fishnets or a low cut top because, ya know machine guns, you need Armour, but still, the costume wasn't good, i didn't like sarahs when she first showed up, either, but the white canary costumes good.
"Quick, Arrowverse, we need an updated look for Hawkman, reminds you of a bird but more batman like..." "Why don't we just rip off Watchmen's Nite Owl?" "BRILLIANT!"
Always disappointed in the direction various producers are taking The Flash in... I don't like the CW Flash with the 'Team' and 'leather-look' outfit. The new movie costume is odd and clumsy looking. The TV show with John Wesley Shipp was closest to the look I'd like to see. Mostly true to the 'Silver Age' Flash but sans yellow boots. Carmine Infantino designed that uniform for DC magazine and it was perfect. Carmine was a student of practicality and his design reflects that, right down to the soles of The Flash's Boots. The current crop of ill thought attempts seem to want a change for changes sake... :/
No, wonder woman's outfit is because she was the Amazonian representative to the US during WW1. According to Amazonian traditions, the battle outfit's color/pattern scheme is to reflect the nation she will be going to. Thus, the stars and stripes. The movie neglects this part of the origin completely, making the spy washed on shore to be from London and not America. Thus, her keeping her color scheme in the DCU actually makes no sense lore-wise, as her armor scheme makes no sense. Either she should be wearing traditional Amazonian armor, or traditional God armor, or armor in the scheme of the British flag. But she does none of these things. So while the armor fits her comic scheme well, it makes no sense regarding the lore given to her in the movie, while the armor makes sense in respect to her comic lore. Regarding actress choice, Gadot is not of the right ethnicity (lore-wise either Caucasian or South America make sense, no others), but this is okay as she portrays the sexiness, the beauty, the strength, and the compassion of the character on the screen well. I just wish that Gadot was not so politically charged and so pro-Isreal and so anti-Palestine. (I know she is Israeli, but come on - don't go publicly supporting Israelis kicking innocent Palestinians out of their homes; either say both sides are wrong or don't say anything - you are a freaking public figure that children will look up to now for gods sake).
1)Everyone knows that the CW's Flash costume is vastly superior to the DCEU's. It's sleek, efficient, and gets better with each season. 2) I hate the gritty Aquaman. Did I think he was cool when I was 12 watching justice league? A little. But the latest version of him looks like a Rock & Roll reject that never got the memo that black does not equal "edgy". The original design is scale armor that protects Aquaman, without weighing him down, because it is made of scales, like fish, not gold....
Judging from the truly awful writing and ridiculous plots in the CW's "Legends of Tomorrow", perhaps the producers just blew the whole budget on costume design and construction.
Tyrell Films that's the problem right there, "realism". Nothing about super powered beings in Costumes fighting crime is "realism". The only reason the costumes change in live action is mainly due to actual people not being able to pull it off unless they looked exactly like they're comic book double. I have no problem nor do I care about what the female characters wear cause again it doesn't matter they're not real it's all fantasy plus what they wear doesn't take away from they're abilities. I don't mention live action like shows or movies because the actors look stupid either way comic book accurate or not , the animated stuff makes more sense because you can do the things you can't really do with actors dressed like everyday cosplayers. My point is people need to stop trying to apply logic to situations that are Beyond illogical because you are just confusing yourself. So what if wonder woman or storm have they're cheeks exposed while fighting crime? They're powerful beings and the costume is just meant for fighting crime it's not that serious people. Does it really matter if a female character is dressed like a so called "stripper" if she can land 100 back flips in heels and literally punch threw metal with they're bare hands? In my not so opinion opinion it doesn't but you don't see me trying to put logic into comic book hoopfla and I mean this in general these live action movies are more of cash grab cringe fan service for clueless people who have no actual knowledge in the characters being portrayed by B list actors. Cosplayers on RU-vid can make a better damn live action but that's all it is at the end of the day just B list actors dressed in suits fighting crime with cringe dialogue.
Tyrell Films I didn't miss your point friend. I knew what you were talking about but I was referring to *in general* I don't really count live action cause that's a whole different situation but just in plain general how people judge a fictional character based off a costume they only where when there's trouble. I feel like people can't distinguish real life from videogame and comic book craziness.
Well, now that the Justice League movie came out, we did get an explanation for Flash's armor. Apparently it's made out of super heat-resistant plates that protect him from friction burns. This is actually a long standing gripe that the more physics-oriented DC fans have had with the character when they noted that a character moving as fast as the Flash would burn up from friction with the atmosphere. The comics waved this off by saying it's the "Speed Force aura" that protects the Flash from friction burn. In fact there was what-if storyline in the comics where a villain kills him by disabling Flash's connection to the speed force in mid-run causing Flash to instantly burst into flames.
Thats why it BOMBED...The reason why the classic look stands out is because of their bright colors and their heroic & upbeat tone in movies & tv...tell me does anyone remember and able to draw out these new latest costumes? Its boring and forgetable as well as dull & somber settings & tone in the movie put more people off!
All the DC and Marvel Super Heroes were great as they were!! You idiots have to ruin everything!! Very rarely can you change what was, you keep to the original version and you're bound to be a success!
Wonder Woman's "All American" look was explained in the 70's series pilot. It all had to do with ambassadorships, wearing the symbol of the country she would be assisting. Pretty good reason and kept simple.
Look, I get why Black Canary's costume was updated, and I can agree with the reasoning, but I call bull on saying CW's version was an improvement. She doesn't stand out, she looks like a poorly done SHIELD agent cosplay. It was not an improvement.
Gal Gadot looks like a joke compared to Lynda Carter, and the costume looks lame. You address the real reason why the super hero women always are picked now to have little shape on their bodies. The feminist will not allow a shapely women to play her on the screen, which is why the U.N. dropped Wonder Women from being the ambassador to young girls recently.
Take your tin foil hat off and relax with your nonsense conspiracy theories. Lynda Carter's costume looks like a campy ass mess compared to the new version which was fine for that time but it looks stupid now. This is not the 1970's anymore. Get over it
Anyone who thinks linda Carter's outfit isn't a joke compared to gal gadots is braindead maybe you inhaled to much paint thinner back in the 70s dumbass
What always amused me was John Wesley Shipp's costume on the the 1990's Flash series. It looked fine and everything but I swear a lot of the time it looked like it was made out of felt. It just had that felt-like texture. :)
I think it makes sense for Flash to wear an armored suit. He is lightning fast. That would probably tear or burn out normal skin-tight fabric. Also being fast doesn't make you bulletproof, but an armor will. Not to mention, it looks really cool.
Supermans and Batmans outfits match the "New 52" outfits from the comics. Wonder Womans, Cyborg and Flash are also based around this. The only one that doesn't is Aquamans, but that's a good thing.
The thing with Black Canary is that she's not a heavy hitter like some of the others on this list. She's acrobatic and quick so it makes sense for her costume to be light and allow for a lot of movement. Especially since she does a lot of kicking, having her legs free just makes sense. The costume in The CW show looks good as protective gear but you can tell she can hardly move in it.
DC has always screwed up Aquaman's costume. He's an underwater king and he SHOULDN'T BE WEARING METAL ARMOR because metal's a terrible body armor for a swimming, constantly-underwater hero. Aquaman should be wearing armor made from undersea materials; Coral, seashells, shark skin, crustacean shells, etc. It should be entirely organic, and if it were he could look pretty badass. Instead, they go with the gold armor in the comics, and with a dumb and totally nonsensical suit of metal armor for the movies. Again: WHY WOULD YOU WEAR CHAINMAIL UNDERWATER?!?! That's just plain dumb.
ok I pretty much agree with everything stated just going to say a couple of things: Regarding the flash, his old skin tights also served the purpose of reducing friction, when you consider his speed it means the strain on that new armour is going to be quite high, I don't even want to think what the maintenance cost for that would be not even counting battle damage, CWs Flash costume is better for that I think, pretty sure they stated it was made to resist high lvls of friction, hell even the Flash suit from the 80's worn by our present day Jay Garrick was supposed to be an experimental fabric designed to protect firefighters from extreme heat, so hopefully the movies will mention how they combat the Flash Friction issue... or they'll pretend it does not exist... Second point is about Wonder Woman, I would not particularly say she's that obsessed with America, it may seem that way at first glance, and the original creators may have indeed intended that with her costume design, but when in doing so they have kinda accidentally created an even more plausible reason for the coincidences of her costume design which with the reduction of the more flamboyant stars and a move towards a more greek armour look has it seem DC is leaning in this direction. The point I am making is that when the Founding Fathers of America were designing their country they took great inspiration from the Ancient cultures of Greece and Rome and even built a number of their monuments to mirror the ancient designs of Greece with some updated spin, even the American Eagle of freedom symbology can be traced back to either the double-headed eagle of the Holy Roman Empire or the EAGLE OF ZEUS (Aetos Dios) a Giant Eagle of Greek Mythology. So considering her close ties to Greek Mythology (various origin stories) I find it more plausible that her costume take inspiration and pays homage to the same culture as from which the Founding Fathers took inspiration that being Ancient Greece. One last note, Aquaman's new costume can similarly be traced back to the roots of Greek and Roman History as it is very clearly based on the armour depicted as used by Roman gladiators, use weapons were often nets and spears which fits which his character and his man of the Sea Origin once you swap a Trident for the spear of course..
Another note: Wonder Woman (and to a lesser extent, Superman) were colored to look like they were wrapped in an American flag. Now that DC fancies itself a global publisher, they had to ditch the old "truth, justice, and the American way." And that's why Superman's chest logo went from a simple letter S to "a Kryptonian peace symbol."
Why did you choose to ignore the Flash from the tv show, whose costume is much closer to the original from comics - and much better than the one from the movie?
