How do they treat you in KERALA? | INDIA VLOG 2024🇮🇳
INDIA| Amazing THIS is how they treat you KOCHI, KERALA 2024! | Foreigners react Broadway Market 🇮🇳
Hi everyone! Today, in this 2024 India vlog, we are exploring the Broadway fruit and vegetable market in Ernakulum, KOCHI, KERALA! Please watch this video to see how foreigners react to an Indian style market. It was a HIDDEN GEM! Many foreigners will go to the bazaar and shops in Broadway, but we decided that the fruit and veg market would be more of a cultural experience. This experiences blew our expectations and impressions away! We couldn't believe how kindly we were treated by the busy workers and vendors. Our reaction was amazed and so surprised by how wonderful of an experience this turned out to be.
The fruit and vegetables were so aromatic and we learned about many new species of bananas. The market is known for bananas. Also, we practiced our Malayalam with the locals and they seemed to appreciate our efforts. We are having such a lovely time in Kerala, everyday trying more to understand and appreciate and show the world the culture!
Hope that you enjoy our journey!
Lots of Love,
Mac & Keen

Don't go haggling for food prices in Kerala. For food and essentials they will say the standard price always, you can haggle but they won't reduce the price.

Yea haggling is mostly done in north India, but there are some people who'd increase their prices for foreigners, soo you have to be a local to understand what the real price is, Or just have a local with you everytime you purchase something, like Kerala is well educated soo you can find them anywhere if you tell them your mission 😅

what happened with the mango vendor was (as i understood), The vendor told ₹100 for 2 mangoes and When you asked ₹50 (for 2 mangoes) , he replied that 1 mango is for ₹50, as he said 1- ₹50, it wasn't ₹150. it's a common way these vendors talk to customers with language barrier, they just say the numbers.. he said 1- ₹50 (justifying his price ₹100), didn't mean ₹150. this is what i understood from their reactions as a fellow malayali😅. great to see you guys in kerala. Hope you'll visit Manrothuruthu (kollam).

Fun Fact: Kerala Communist party is NOT the world's first Democratically elected Communist Government. That would be the San Marino govt. formed by the Sammarinese Communist Party in 1945. But the Kerala Communist party is certainly Number 1 in Political Killings. 173 political murders happened in Kerala between 2000 and 2016. 125 political murders were committed from 2016 to 2023 by the Kerala communist party. Much less than Mao and Stalin, so that's a win for kerala communists.

Sugamno? = feeling good? Sugamanu = I'm feeling good. An "o" sound at the end is used as a question signifier in Malayalam pronunciation and a "u" sound (spelt as uh rather than ooh) as a statement signifier. Kerala is relatively unique in India for most people knowing at least basic English due to colonial influence and Anglo education. You can get away with a lot of English over here as a result. Other useful basic words: Entha? = What? & Why? Evide? = Where? Eppol? = When? Engane? = How?

Namaskaram is a very formal "hello Sir". Now just imagine someone going around the market saying "Hello Sir" to every random person he meets. How absurd does that look ? Do you go around in England and US saying "Hello Sir" to every person you meet ? There is polite and then there is patronizing. Notice the difference ?
@jakeM3131
@jakeM3131 7 месяцев назад
I think that’s a pretty cynical perspective. They are in a different culture that speaks a language(s) they dont know. So, out of respect they are trying to incorporate a bit of the native language into their conversation. 0% chance their intent is to patronize. Also for what its worth, saying “hello sir/ma’am” in England or the states is pretty common
@odomangulati7079
@odomangulati7079 7 месяцев назад
@@jakeM3131 LOL. So you are claiming that most people in england go around saying "Hello Sir/Mam" to every person they meet on the street ? Apparently streets of england are full of people greeting each other all the time. 😂😂 Do you even hear yourself ? Randomly greeting busy strangers is not how you show respect. You do that by ACTING respectfully. By not assuming they are "cheating" you of a few cents when buying their goods. That would be a good start. In any case pretty much everybody understands Hi and Hello, so why would he say "Namaskaram" ? If that is not patronizing, then I don't know what is. Did you see anybody else out there greeting each other "Namaskaram" in the street ? 🙄
@jakeM3131
@jakeM3131 7 месяцев назад
@@odomangulati7079 I think you are either missing the point or just trying to find a way to be offended by their video. All the vendors and workers seemed to be genuinely happy to interact with them as well as reciprocate the greeting. I dont know the culture but all the locals seemed to enjoy them. In my experience, when you get off the internet most people in the real world tend to favor understanding intentions rather than dissecting language
@odomangulati7079
@odomangulati7079 7 месяцев назад
@@jakeM3131 If you go around greeting "Hello Sir" to Random busy strangers in england, how would they react ? They too would be surprised / happy and some would reciprocate back too. They would think its "Strange" but they will take it in their stride. Even if that greeting came from some jihadi/islamist. Nobody is going to beat you up just because you say "Hello sir" or if you act patronizing. Most will not even realize it. Those who do recognize such behavior, will get annoyed and irritated. Its nothing to do with internet, its just human nature. It IS patronizing because it is something they never do in their own country. Why such double standards ? Condescending behaviors often come from people who are insecure, controlling, and afraid to be vulnerable. And THAT is what comes out in the video. So its not about me taking offence, the "attitude" is what sucks. People will be friendly warm and welcoming even without that forced "Namaskaram". That is what they need to understand.
