I have owned this machine for over a year and it works very well. Probably the best value in a budget machine.

That's actually amazing from a portable welder that can run on a 20 amp 120V circuit. Even a relatively small generator (2500+ watts) ought to run it. Could take it to the race track. You could even go RV-ing & camping with it. Take it rock crawling and patch your UTV up when you break it.

I had also considered using a portable gen with my Lincoln SquareWave200. However after talking to Lincoln if it could be done, the answer was yes, but. Portables apparently have terribly dirty voltage signwaves. So picking one, you'd need to verify the total harmonic distortion to be really low. Certainly under 5% or better. You basic Coleman might pop transistors, is what was explained to me, on inverter units. Something worth researching.

This is an inverter welder, the power comes into the machine and is immediately rectified into DC. This filters out any harmonics. From there, synthetic high frequency AC feeds the main transformer which is much smaller due to HF. The problem is power factor which is corrected for higher output. This is what loads the generator as most can't deal with VAR much higher than rated kW.

Looks like a capable machine. Still dumbfounded at the consistent spacing of each 'dime'; a complete inspiration.

Pre heating is always the trick 👌. Not only will it help you get the job done with low power it will also help the weld look smooth and wet in nice and not cold and clunky .

I can say from experience the primeweld Tig 225x with Maxcool 3000 watercooler is a awesome setup been rocking mine for 3 years now! 😮😮 I purchased mine after seeing you and Justin's review brother when I was looking at Tig machine I was very confused what was what I was thinking about the green one and the yellow one and then the Primeweld Tig machine came in the light. After about a year and half of teaching myself lift Tig with My Amazon Chineseum multiprocess machine I pulled the trigger on the whole setup Best tool in my shop payed for it self in the first six months of having it. Thank you for the great content and sharing reviews with the Primeweld.... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 My next addition to the setup is the Tig button for my flex-loc torch then it will be a total package for sure 😄😄😄😄

Preheat is your friend when welding aluminum. I will preheat even 1/16" and 1/8" to about 150F to 200F. I found that it makes for easier starts and better control when welding.

I’m sure it’s a good machine and all but I also think you could weld with a crayon and magnifying glass on a cloudy day. Long time subscription. Impressive content as always.

I love my 225X. I’ve never tried it on 120 volt but good to know it’s actually useful running on 120.

Good video 👍 After 3 years still impressed with mine. Have done steel, stainless, and aluminum, all flawless. Running a CK20 with 25’ cable and the Primeweld water cooler, CK and Furick consumables, and a TIG button. Winning combination.

I’ve had my 225x for about 2 years now and it’s been perfect for me. It’s never been ran on 240, only 120, and has never once hit the duty cycle even after long sessions.

That is a great welder for the price. It seems like it has a bunch of features, which is amazing considering the price point. Wish I had known before I spent so much on mine years ago.

Another educational video! Cut and etch would have been interesting. On that 1/4” lap joint, do you ever bevel the top member so you can guarantee full penetration into the root when limited to 120VAC?

@6061 I have this machine and love it. I mostly TIG stainless with it, but have messed around with aluminum a bit. I feel like I struggle with getting a clean weld with aluminum. What AC Balance settings ETC do you recommend as a decent starting point on this machine?

I tried my Primeweld at 110 and it seemed to work better on thin aluminum. I'm a not a very good welder so take that for what it's worth.

I have a question can this welder make repairs on aluminum cylinder heads??
@Steelcrafted
@Steelcrafted 2 месяца назад
Sure, the welder can, but honestly, prob not on 110v....the thing he's failing to mention is that those coupons get so hot, so fast, that .25 aluminum at 125a is quite possible....on a huge casting like a cylinder head, I have doubts that 125a would even begin to puddle, even after a local preheat with a torch.....it's just too much mass that'll suck the heat out so quick.

In the real world (with metals bigger than 2”) you’ll spend all day resetting your breaker. One major factor in welding isn’t just the thickness, rather the size (mass) of the object. - hence the necessary preheat step. In some cases, a second person continues to apply heat while welding. Aluminum swallows heat like a teenager with a bag of potato chips. But hey, 110v is better than nothing!
