Fun fact - The guy who drew the border never did a field survey. His excuse - It was too hot outside.

I'm watching this today, 14th August, and people around me are celebrating 'Independence' but for me this date always reminds me of the trauma that our people went through just 2 generations ago. It was total madness from both sides. We are and will always will be one people no matter what.

No need for tears. If there were 220 million pakistanis muslims(at least 10-20% of the pakistanis are radicalized) in this country, then the real tears would've flowed.

I think the movie you were referring to is Bhag Milkha Bhag, where they showed the migration of people across the border. Milkha Singh the main character was in Pakistan and had moved to India during partition.

Is that the one where it’s late at night and there is a car with a little girl who later is much older? I don’t think so. BMB is the one where his family dies

Yeah the scene with the girl is from Sacred games. In BMB also they showed partition during which his parents are killed because they refused to migrate and he and his sister are forced to go to India along with thousand others. I thought u were referring to that scene

only good thing is seeing the attari/wagah border celebrations.... despite the huge rivalry between India Pakistan, opening the gates, with music and dance at a border is something that won’t work everywhere in the world... in the 2019 worldcup, there was a match between India England... if India wins, Pakistan stays in the wordcup, orelse they are out.... It was fun on twitter to see Pakistanis wanting India to win and Indians pulling their legs saying ‘we will lose the match so that u r out of worldcup’ 😅😜 it would have been fun if India had won that match... for the frst time after Independence, India and Pakistanis would have joined hands, had fun together and trolled England(East India company) badly 😂😂

I like to think, when the anchor mentioned that the incident "effected millions", I feel something wrong in my heart. Because it's more than that, more than a billion people live here in the subcontinent. It effects us to this day, it's put in mind, radicalising us, straining our time & resources. Resources which could have been elsewhere, if this tension wouldn't exist.

The British had to leave India early due to the economical crisis in Britain as the result of WWII. That's the reason to cut the partition time short...

hey heyy Nick, just browsing old videos and found this one. This is a really cool video and I enjoyed ur reaction to it..!!! I would say it is pretty accurate barring few things. It is mostly the politicians who are creating rifts to nationalize the voting banks in their favor during elections but there is an innate response abt the event because the stuff that these politicians speak, however jumbled, has some form of truth in it. Anyway, really loved this video. will be on a watchout for more..!!

The pronunciation normally used by non-Indians is Seekh. The actual pronunciation sounds closest to the English word "Sick" (only with an emphasis on the "ck" sound). The video was fairly accurate, but a very quick and highly edited version of the full story. Consider a 5 or 10 minute video on the American Civil War made for Jr. High School students. It would give the highlights, some of the names and issues. It could be pretty accurate, but certainly nowhere near comprehensive.

Sikhs and Hindus follow Dharmic traditions, Islam does not. Whoever made this video is here to promote Pakistan. Don't fall for it. Then separated Pakistan and today's Pakistan is different.

If it was only the politicians that wanted this war, it wouldn't have been a long lasting one. This exact argument of India and Pakistan being brothers and sisters and the reason for conflict being BOTH Governments of India and Pakistan has been advanced by Pakistan as a matter of state policy. Every propaganda piece churned out by Pakistan's ISI begins with establishing this false equivalence between India and Pakistan. This is done to cover the reality that Pakistan is a much more evil country than India, the innocent people and cultural similarities on both sides notwithstanding. . So excuse me if I chalk this Vox video to be plain Bull$hit propaganda. And I'll tell you why. Look at how the narrator puts together this video:- 1.) He mentions "India and Pakistan have fought many wars", he skips mention of the fact that Pakistan initiated every single one of those wars. 2.) He takes the speech of Indian Prime Minister denouncing Terrorism and talking about diplomatic isolation of Pakistan and paints it as jingoistic while muting the speech of the Pakistani Prime Minister altogether, then embeds them in a narration that (mis)leads the viewer to believe that only the politicians are at fault. 3.) He doesn't dwell on the basic cause for the Partition: The Two Nation Theory. He only mentions in passing that Pakistan is an Islamic state by Constitution, whereas India is Secular by Constitution. 4.) He doesn't even mention the use of Terrorists for Proxy Warfare used by Pakistan against India. 5.) Glosses over the Kashmir conflict using words that again show that both sides have an equal claim (or lack of claim) on it. No mention of how India has a legal claim (per International Law). . I could go on and on. The fact that this video has an agenda/narrative to put forth is crystal clear by the way facts are cherry picked and presented in this video. People new to the Geopolitics of this region will surely get suckered in by this kind of propaganda.

Agreed, it was quite obvious from the video. He also didn't mention that it was the Pakistani leaders (Muslim League) who wanted Partition while Indian leaders (Congress) wanted a united India without Partition.

And also India's problem with Pakistan state sponsored terrorism in Kashmir valley since 1989 which led to exodus of minority Kashmiri Hindus(4-5% of muslim majority Kashmir valley) from the valley
@anuragsinghrana9221
@anuragsinghrana9221 3 года назад
Video was pretty accurate. There are multiple layers to the conflict. The root is British policy to treat Hindus and Muslims differently to create a divide. This culminated into Jinnah demanding greater political representation of Muslims in an independent India (basically 1 Muslim vote having higher value than 1 Hindu vote, since Hindus were majority). This eventually led to the decision to give a part of land in the form of Pakistan for Muslims (where President and Prime Minister can only be a Muslim person). India decided to remain secular, where everyone had equal vote irrespective of religion (which was the whole reason why India decided to give away Pakistan instead of giving special treatment to a section of people).
@anuragsinghrana9221
@anuragsinghrana9221 3 года назад
In order to "justify" a highly technical demand as being the reason for partition, Jinnah who was a very educated balanced man, decided to portray himself as this highly religious Muslim man. The idea that Hindus and Muslims cannot live together was floated. Basically he said India is not a single country, it is actually two countries living together. That's when the phrase "two nation theory" got popular and still is the reason taught to Pakistanis as to why partition had to happen. Because the reason was given as a religious one instead of the technical aspect of giving equal weightage to votes, it became a very emotional and violent thing. So people were killing each other while they were migrating to the country of their choice.

I am no fan of religion and nationalism in politics. Infact I am an atheist and also I don't belive in the concepts of nationalism and patriotism as these are bullshit feelings a logical human being can have. But it is not as simplistic , politics is not the only issue. The main issue is terrorism. Like many rival nations Ind- pak take a lot of interest in defence, spying, diplomacy, lobbying , arms race , wars etc , which are conventional ways of warfare and rivalry. But the issue just explodes and becomes irreparable when you bring in the dimension of TERRORISM in the mix. And Pakistan simply produces terrorists and exports them to kashmir and India and also Afghanistan because they know conventionally they will never be able to do anything. So once that happens any relationship diplomatically is not possible. Also the founding principles of both nations and constitutional values are different. India is a secular state and all citizens irrespective of religion have equal rights but Pakistan chose to be an Islamic republic hence the intolerance and fundamentalism which leads to terrorism which is nurtured by pak army. It is not just one place but in India there are many religious and cultural places where people of all religions go for prayers and celebrations. Because our forefathers chose to be secular and not a HINDU REPUBLIC. That is the main issue here. Even if people in India want to assert advantage of being a hindu, the brilliant constitution of ours keeps that temptation in check.
