"which I believe is some kind of warranty void if removed type sticker which are apparently illegal in some countries around the world" - they are not enforceable in Australia. The company has to prove you damaged the device.
Same in the US (technically) although as usual companies have found (or paid for) loopholes to exploit customers. They often just make the whole process so frustrating that you just give up. Often the case on cars too.
Yep. I hate when companies do stuff to earn more money and to make people buy new stuff instead of fixing it. Apple shreds tons of working iPhones every day just so people buy new ones
@@desire_002 I hope people soon begin to realize how Apple has been shafting their customers ever since the first iPhone. And they have gotten worse over the years.
Yeah that's been my biggest issue with all screen phones like my S10, not much point in having the phone be all screen if there has to be a cutout for the front camera
@@Tiger9194 But then there wouldn't be as much screen. Fundamentally, hole punch cut-outs and notches have provided more screen real estate. If there was a top bezel to accommodate the selfie camera, the space to its right and left would be wasted - just dead space. With a cut-out or notch, the space to the right and left of the camera is instead used as notification bar space, holding the time, signal strength, and notifications (if Android). That means the screen can be used for more content in the same overall device size. Several Android phones provide the option of removing the cut-out/notch by blacking out the space to its right and left - this provides a useful show of what a phone would look like if it had a top bezel instead of a cut-out.
“company’s are evil because they don’t bundle chargers with their phones anymore” “the charger that they bundled is the wrong one for my region” C’mon Hugh, make up you’re mind…
That's funny how you said the wide angle camera looked like a 2010 webcam, because when you took the back frame off the camera area, I thought it looked suspiciously like a webcam lens and body. The tiny viewing hole, and the design of the larger-than-usual plastic around the lens just looked terribly reminiscent of cheap webcams that I've disassembled. Thanks for the interesting, informative and entertaining video!
Dude you're amazing, I couldn't even begin to do what you were able to do in disassembling that phone. Thank you for sharing this awesome video with us. 🤟🤓👍
You make disassembling a phone looks so easy. I tried to replace my note 9 screen following your video, it took more than an hour to remove just the adhesive. Phone repair is not for everyone
1:58 There is a visable notch for a part of a second. But I guess it's just a software bug. Maybe the manufacturer didn't configire their OS right for this model.
They could also very well have blocked this part of the screen off when something using the camera is opened (for example so that something like a notification doesn't ruin your selfie or recording)
I'm sure he had a contract with ZTE saying he could open the device and remove everything. Would definitely have liked to see a bit more comparisons between current models like low end S21, OnePlus and OPPO. It would be interesting to see how it actually stacks up side-by-side with the models it's competing against. Overall nice job as usual
In all honesty, I've never used the front facing camera on any phone I've had. I use it on my tablets for video calls, but never on my phones. I would like to see a phone without one as having an under screen one is a bit of a privacy concern for me personally. I would also like to see you get your hands on an a52 or a52 5g and see your thoughts on it.
The employee before sending it to Hugh Jeffreys: should we reduce the glue inside the phone ?? Employer: Nah double it to see if Hugh can teardown the phone. Hugh: challenge accepted 😂
Still happy with my galaxy s9+. No phone can make me upgrade just yet. I've had hands on experiences with all the top phones and I just can't justify upgrading yet. I've changed my battery twice over the yrs and back plate. Long live the s9+! Haha
I have been spot on with my Apple predictions ever since Android was a thing. Each time a new type of tech was invented by an android manufacturer, Apple would 'invent', rename and patent it 3 years later... but only a few percent of the tech that was apparently absolutely needed like nfc, bluetooth, fingerprint reader etc etc
@@jimjim435 true but they could avoid coming up with their own names and trying to fool people in to thinking that it is an 'Apple Invention'. Many people actually think Apple invented stuff while in actuality they invent nothing... they just market existing stuff
The loss in quality can also be because the lens and sensors are different than on the main camera but it's still awesome to see a camera capturing photos over layers of screen. I just wish this phone wasn't so glued down. Everything is behind glue even screws. Also hidden screws, void warranty stickers and the big stickers saying that the phone is basically unrepairable are seriously shady and shouldn't be legal. Non removable battery should be also illegal since it is one component that 100% dies with time.
The warranty stickers are not illegal. It is however illegal to deny warranty based on weather the device has been opened. You can use it to signal that further examination needs to be done to make sure the user hasent broken it.
Great review & disassembly 👍 I've had mine 6 months now & it's a fantastic phone for way less money than a similar spec'd device - I have never put a screen protector on it & it does not have a single mark on it, maybe the retail versions got harder glass ? I did send it for repair as my touchscreen stopped working (UK to HK) & ZTE sorted shipping & repair under warranty really fast with no cost to myself - only UK customs tried to get me to pay duty as it was a repair & not a complete new replacement (some rule they have) but released the phone after a week with no charges (were they trying to pull a fast one - I bought the phone from ZTE UK STORE 🤬) anyway, I can't fault ZTE or their product as it does everything I need, the display is nice & responsive, 870 chipset is very snappy & more than enough for my gaming needs - overall the best phone I could find at the time for less than £450 👍
04:00 you know what started this whole "do not open" thing. it's people taking them appart, breaking something, and then putting it back together to claim warrenty or said it broke randomly. that's why they started making it almost impossible to do. rather then just warning people not to do it. it's because you have no buisness opening it up as long as you can get a free replacement
i know that showing thermal paste applications on RU-vid is a risky job because of comments like "ur doing it wroooong" or "USE LIQUID METAAAAAALLL" BUT my question is, did your used a silver based paste? i mean i see a lot of people that work with computers puting the white kind of paste (that i call toothpaste cuz it's terrible) i mean, it isn't totally absurd to use "toothpaste" in this instance because a phone is passively cooled and that means, a low heat output I'm not telling you that this is wrong, I'm just questioning, why?
The battery could easily be removable, route the wires underneath it, put in the appropriate socket, about 1mm of plastic in the midframe to form the battery compartment, and use clips instead of glue to hold the back on There is no reason they couldn't have made it removable
@@arch1107 i mean, wich site, what kind of tape? some specific brand? he's from Australia and I'm from Brazil, i can't afford going to Australia just to buy some double sided tape
@@4nyNoob lmao, you seem to have problems using your local popular online store and write double sided tape i know you can find double side tape on brazil because mercadolibre operates there, as it does where i live and i found it there, as it can be found on alot physical stores who sell tools go to australia for double side tape, i almost got a hernia laughing form that stupid idea
The bootloader isn't unlocked I guess: if you unlock the bootloader, a phone restores to factory settings. It means that it is possible to unlock the bootloader. About the battery: ofcourse it's got more connections because it's got more cells. It's madness to put 65W in a battery this size and would be dangerous. Every phone charging with 50W or more uses more cells to achieve this. That comes at a cost though, because seperating the cells physically requires space, so you've got less capacity because of that
So you basically "un-glued" the battery, and light glue on other parts, so that the next owner can have his life a little bit sorted! Bravo modern robinhood 👏👏👏
This is my first video viewing of this kind. Great combination of courage and skills! But it also confirms my reluctance of buying similar electronics 'open box' from eBay. Not saying you would - but still.
Be *careful* with the phone now, the likelihood of the battery causing a fire went up after exposing it to heat and some flex. It's recommended to use a new battery after removing it.
i wish he would have played a video or showed an image with the camera out in landscape orientation. i mean is that just a simple hole in the display or are there working pixels in that area?
Grate vid man , the camera is nearly fully invisible, sits amazing how companies keep innovating , i hops Apple implements this on the new iPhone models.
