How to install a transgo hd2 kit on a 4l80e transmission. This video included the installation of the upgraded intermediate snap ring and direct drum springs which are normally left out of the install videos. a21bravo
Wow, you make my 80e transgo video look like a hack job! Been watching you and hunter for 6 months, love the sloppy content! This was a very well edited series, can't wait to hear clapped out vs. Rebuilt & model results in the ranger. Keep em coming!
Thanx for taking the time to illustrate the rebuild in this much detail. Theres a lot going on but its not near as daunting after seeing you go thru this
Hey man, I’m a 52 yo hotrodder from Australia and I just wanted to let you know that I’m about to take on my first ever automatic trans rebuild and I have found your videos really helpful. Thanks for doing what you do!! 👌👍 very thorough and informative. Regards Rod.
Dude you told me you hadn’t done a 80E before! Dang you’re a master at it. I don’t know I would tackle one yet but I learned a whole lot about it. Thanks for the great detail you went in to! Bless you pal!
Great, to-the-point video! I have put TransGo kits in TH400's. I watched this vid more so to see if I could decipher what is in my trans, but also to see what is involved in the TransGo kit for the 80. What? I bought it on craigslist from a guy who had it built w/ a Monster Mega SS kit by his uncle, but changed his mind to go w/ a 6 speed manual instead. The trans worked fine at 1st...for all forward gears. I never thought about reverse, as long as it worked. Two months in, I lost reverse. Researching, I found that the reverse servo piston pin is the most likely culprit when everything is fine except reverse and low-gear braking. Taking the valve body out to get the servo piston cover/servo piston/piston pin out, I FOUND OUT at least some of what is in it...the yellow pressure release spring, orange reverse piston return spring, and 7 check balls. I didn't take the separator plate off as I did not want to disturb the gasket, but from what I found, the trans has the HD2 kit. Oh, and it looks like the boost valve on the pump was also changed/is new.
I have found that the "the pressure relief modification" is for 1999 and earlier. Somewhere in 1999 GM fixed (updated) the OBDII. This solved the runaway high line pressure problem. If using an aftermarket computer, this should not be necessary.
I know your vid is older but I inquired with transgo about the pressure relief mod issues and for the differences between the transgo 2 and 3 kits, here’s what they said-
