A really essential piece of kit for any Reptile Keeper concerned with surface temperatures. Probe style digital thermometers, due to the nature of probes, are really only suitable for the discovering the ambient temperature of surrounding air, water or other medium. Keep up the good work TC !

I like how I came across this vid today I received my temp gun just a while ago (literally an hour) was watching something else looked to the right and there was this vid and was like TC made this vid good source then had a giggle at the coincidence though. Thanks TC keep at the great vids :)

ReptileMountain.TV I was wondering... does the dog food have to be grainfree? Because I can't really serm to find any without grain...

+Snorkle Boi It doesn't "have to" however grain is used often as a filler and takes up space where quality nutritional items would be. Where are you looking for it? Its getting more common around the US.

What emissivity setting do I set the heat gun to if I want to check the temp for coco fiber?

Learn something new everyday. Disnt know about the distance thing also a good idea to check understuff. Mine spends alot of time under the basking slate. Must prefare back heat to belly heat. Question. Prob a silly one but hey throwing it out there what happens to the reading through glass? Again keep up the good work TC.

+Ben Taylor Thanks Ben! Although the laser passes through the glass the heat reader reads the first solid item it hits so it just give the glass temp reading. It also doesn't do very well on people (i tried it lol)

Which setting should I use? My gun measures for like the forehead temp or object temp. Both very different. Forehead temp setting will read 35 or 36C in forest bark above the heat mat which object temp will only read about 24 or 26C. Which one should I focus on?

I just caught 2 snails today i know skinks love them but i never gave one. But how can i prevent it from having parasites or any worms in the snail? For now i hold them in an small container with some food.

+Sjaak van der Vijver the only way I know is to freeze them below 15F for several days. Gastropods can carry some wicked parasites.

My heating mat is set to 89 and it feels around 89ish to the touch but my temp gun says 104..why

Sometimes the mat thermostat need calibrated. I would go by touch honestly. We usually think things are cooler than they are. I have two temp guns to double check stuff. I tend to trust the temp guns more then heat mat thermostats. 😬

ReptileMountain.TV so keep turning the thermostat down still the temp gun says it’s around a 90ish to high 80s even if the thermostat is on 75 degrees?

I would yes. Chances are that the thermostat is miscalibrated

The back is reading 97 the acurite I have is reading 82 idk what to believe..

What are you referring to as "the back"
