How To Activate The iPhone 2G Without A Sim Card (2024)

For anyone that is having trouble activating the iPhone 2g and getting a white screen after redsn0w says waiting for re-boot. Try this method on a windows 7 computer BUT with redsn0w 0.9.4. That is the only thing that I did different and I just got my 8gb iPhone 2g activated just a couple of hours ago. Some people might have different results but this method worked for me. Also I got it to work with the latest version of iTunes. Hope that this helps because I’ve seen many people that seem to have a similar issue using Windows 10. Good luck.

Seems like it might not be working in 2023, at least for me. I get stuck in the "waiting for reboot" mode on RedSn0w, but I have tired literally every single suggestion possible on this. Sometimes the iPhone 2G, its confirmed to be one, gets stuck at the white screen, and sometimes its just still in DFU mode with the black screen. Tried it with two different pc's. Tired it with windows 7 through a virtual box as the software seems to be incredibly old, still nothing. Yes, I have unplugged and replugged, rebooted the phone and restarted, restarted the pc's, tired different versions of RedSn0w, etc. Really doesn't want to work, and I am hoping there is some sort of other software that might achieve something I could try.

Thanks for this tutorial! I find that it is more reliable on Windows (7) than on macOS (at least on High Sierra anyway). also, DFU mode will revert if you dont install the current itunes before all of this. Works like a charm now, happy hunting!

2019 (Windows 10 x64) : I got White screen & Waiting for reboot problem too. btw, I Open Redsn0w in Windows XP x86 on VMware the problems are gone. CHECK MATE!!

If anyone is having the "Waiting for reboot" issue on MacOS then simply unplug and re-plug the phone to the computer and the problem will be solved. It actually worked for me.

as of now, 12 August 2020 this doesn't work anymore. This is what happens: If you try to downgrade to iOS 3.1.2 in iTunes it seems that it will work for a second, however after that you will get a error code "2009". after that your iPhone 2G will be stuck in recovery mode. the only way to exit recovery mode is to install/open 3uTools and click on "exit recovery mode". after that it will just go back to the "No SIM card installed" activation screen. If anyone has found a workaround please let me know by leaving a reply here.

IT did Work!!! but first install 3.1.3 from itunes ....THen use 3.1.2 with redSnow ...DOwnload the bootloader files if you want a carrier unlock... then GO!

On macOS Monterey, iTunes no longer exists. Use the Finder to restore the ipsw. Unfortunately Redsn0w does not run on M1 Macs.

Hi! :) I have a problem with my Iphone 2G that requires activation. After starting the phone in safe mode and selecting the software from your server - the message crashes. The software is not compatible with the device.

the video is cut and edited at the begining, first of all how do you get out of activation window without a sim to have the homescrren ivons to later go to that mode? If I Press down the sleep and home the swipe to turn off comes up but it never shuts down to go to the next step.

Hey man I really need your help! I‘ve got my old iPhone 2G with a broken screen. Due to the broken screen I managed to type in the wrong passcode so many times that it says: „iPhone disabled - Connect to iTunes“. When I connect it to iTunes it says I‘m supposed to type in my passcode on the device. I only need to recover the music from this old phone. I used to record my own songs and this iPhone is the only place where my music is... I tried some iPhone recovery softwares but neither of them recognized the phone...will restoring the device help??

The simple way of activating the iPhone 2g stuck in that screen is simply insert a large style SIM card and connect it to iTunes (an AT&T card preferably) and it activates to the “slide to unlock screen”
