Yeah - learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/install/installing-powershell-on-macos?view=powershell-7.3 Using the direct download is probably the easiest installation method.

Did you install powershell using the direct download package? The script itself might need to be modified in order to run within the mac version of Powershell. I would need to look at it. Alternatively you could install windows on your Mac via boot camp then delete it if you would never use it again. UPDATE: 1)install powershell for mac 2) after you installed the powershell pkg run “pwsh” command (without quotes) in terminal to start powershell. 3) copy the entire contents of the script file (likely easiest to click the copy button on the pastebin website instead of downloading the contents to a text file) 4) paste the script contents into terminal where you executed the “pwsh” command. 5) press return The script should then run on macOS

How would I do it via wifi ? I have my old internet service still active
@helphq
@helphq Год назад
It’s only a matter of whether or not you connect to your T-Mobile 5G Home internet’s Gateway via WiFi or you plug an Ethernet cable into the back of the gateway and connect the other end to your computer before running the powershell script. If you connect to your old internet service it will not work. You must be connected to your T-Mobile 5G Home Internet service.

Thank you! After hitting my head on a brick wall trying to get this done yesterday and today I finally got the clue I needed for success from your video. When I set up the T-Mobile Wifi app initially I used the password on the back of the modem with spaces, not periods. Since Nate always replaces the default password for his videos I didn't realize I needed to use periods instead of spaces to get this to work but your video was the key! Keep up the good work (oh, and I'm using a Mac so there's proof that this isn't a Windows only job).

Hey man great video, I’ve got a few questions about using a router as apposed to just using the modem. What are the advantages to using a router with this? The main reason I’ve thought about adding a router is because my Samsung smart TV disconnects after sometime from my TMobile home internet and is shotty trying to get it reconnected and I have to reboot both the network settings on my TV and power cycle my modem. The TV says it’s unable to connect due to failure of automatic IP couldn’t be found. Also, will this effect my gaming in any way? This is my only source of internet where I live and it works pretty well for gaming and I don’t want to spend the money on a router if it’ll negatively effect my ability to game with it. I appreciate your time in making this video to help others man and hope you have a great day!

Hello so most people add a router and suck up having a double NAT to gain features that the T-Mobile gateway does not provide. This could be anything from parental controls to changing your IP addresses from the standard T-Mobile 192.168.12.xxx to something else or assigning a static IP. Having a double NAT will more than likely impact your gaming experience because your NAT type will be strict… moderate if you’re lucky. The other reason people add a router is to extend their Wi-Fi coverage. You can place the router in bridge mode to keep all of the actual routing of data and assigning IP addresses with the T-Mobile gateway but allows you to use the routers Wi-Fi capabilities. Using bridge mode does not incur a double NAT because the router is now operating as a Wi-Fi extender rather than a router. If you have the KVD-21 gateway the issue might be the gateway itself. I had a horrible experience with this gateway with constant cutouts resulting in rebooting the gateway as the only solution. Is your tv the only device that has this problem or when the tv disconnects do you have other devices that still work on Wi-Fi? You should isolate the problem to the tv or the gateway before purchasing anything. In either case adding a router probably isn’t going to help you.

What is the fastest speed you can get with the Arcadyan KVD21 router. What do they cap the speed to. How much of a speed difference between stock and added router? Thanks!
@helphq
@helphq Месяц назад
The kvd21 has two gigabit RJ-45 ports. So if you’re using Ethernet you can in theory get up to 1 Gb/s. It also has WiFi 6 which in theory supports 9.6 Gb/s but that’s for devices within the network not for using the internet. You’ll also never see that speed for many reasons regardless of the application. T-Mobile does not list the specific WiFi 6 spec on their website for this gateway so I have no idea what kinds of speeds you’d get. It simply says WiFi 6 which could mean a lot of things. I also can’t answer the question about the speed difference between routers because you didn’t give a router to compare it to. In theory if you buy one that’s newer it will be faster. I use a WiFi 6e router and it’s much faster than the T-Mobile gateway.

Ok, I have the stupid question. I have a Tmobile Gateway, but the supid question is: why do I want to do this(add a separate router) - is the wifi signal stronger; can I add more devices with a different router????? Please respond - as I am very interested.
@helphq
@helphq 3 месяца назад
Well you don't NEED to do it if the stock gateway is working fine for you. I did this specifically to add a mesh system with a higher (new) WiFi spec so that I had better coverage in my house as well as faster speeds. You definitely don't have to do it though. Plus for my situation specifically the gateway from T-Mobile got the best service in an upstairs bedroom window which meant anyone downstairs or in our finished basement had horrible WiFi signal.... which is why I added the mesh system.

The T-Mobile Arcadyan KVD21 receiver has two ethernet out ports.--This is great. My wireless router, where most of the devices connected, is connected to the First port. My desktop is connected to the second ethernet port on the receiver. This desktop now can’t access anything from the wireless router network. Do you know how to get them both to be on the same network? Or how I can access the wireless router’s network from my desktop while still connecting to the receiver’s second port? Can you make a video on this if it's even possible?
@helphq
@helphq Год назад
You can’t do what you’re wanting to do because it is essentially two separate networks unless the router you have connected to the T-Mobile gateway is in bridge mode. You need to move the Ethernet connection from the T-Mobile gateway to the Ethernet connection on the wireless router. It will then be able to see everything on that network.

@helphq
@helphq Год назад
All of the T-Mobile gateways are Wi-Fi 6. So I personally wouldn’t recommend getting less than that. You’ll often find good deals on Wi-Fi 5 devices but you’re basically replacing the gateway Wi-Fi with something worse so I wouldn’t do that. Most people with T-Mobile internet look for a gateway that supports changing the MTU (maximum transmission unit) because T-Mobile uses a non standard one since the internet connection is utilizing a cell phone tower. I personally have used routers that allow you to change the MTU and routers that don’t. I don’t think the change is significant enough of a boost in performance to warrant needing it. If you intend to put the device in bridge mode (recommended) then you don’t need to worry about whether or not the router supports this feature. I went through 4 different routers before settling on eero and I haven’t had any issues with it at all. I do run it in bridge mode though and it does not support changing the MTU. If you want that feature you will need to do some research to figure out if the router firmware supports changing the MTU with whatever one you pick because they’re all different. Asus and netgear typically allow you to change this within the firmware. Tp link is hit or miss - some do and some don’t. Supposedly if it doesn’t they can remote in and change it for you. I don’t know how much I trust that but more power to you if you let them. I’d personally stay away from any dynalink product or any orbi product. Hope that helps!

One question If I disable the inter and add my T-P Link router would it make my internet faster,because of my router or Will stay the same Speed thanks in advance I do have this Tp-link AX11000 and want to add it to my New T-Mobile internet
@helphq
@helphq 2 года назад
It’s not going to make your internet connection to your modem faster. It may improve your Wi-Fi speed if the router has a higher Wi-Fi speed rating or more powerful antennas. When you see AX1800, AX3000 or in your case AX11000 these numbers refer to the maximum bandwidth, in megabits per second, that the routers are capable of, on all bands simultaneously (including 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands). So an AX1800 router, should in theory be capable of transmitting and/or receiving up to 1800Mbps. These numbers can be misleading. Because devices can only connect to a single band at a time. This means the quoted speeds won't reflect the actual speeds you'll get in reality. For instance, an AX1800 router might only have a maximum bandwidth of 300Mbps or thereabouts on the 2.4Ghz band. All that to say is it depends. T-Mobile doesn’t have a Wi-Fi 6 speed rating associated with the KVD21 Gateway. It’s definitely worth a shot.

I would try doing a speed test over Ethernet. That way you have something to gauge the difference in speeds with. So if your Ethernet speed test is 200Mbps and your current Wi-Fi speed test is 150Mbps ish.. with the modem you’ll be able to see if there is even room for improvement using the new router.

@helphq
@helphq Год назад
Whatever router you end up using you will need to put in bridge mode. Some routers like TP Link call it access point mode. This will allow you to use the router for Wi-Fi coverage but the T-Mobile gateway will maintain both DHCP and NAT. Since the router is essentially a pass through it will eliminate a double NAT. If you choose not to use bridge mode because you do lose some functionality of your routers settings the internet will still work, but if you play games your NAT will more than likely be strict because of the double NAT. Hope that helps.

Overall no. The speed your gateway has based on the signal it is receiving will not change. It could help your speeds in terms of Wi-Fi coverage. If with the T-Mobile gateway you’re too far away or based on the location in your home the coverage isn’t good a Wi-Fi mesh system could increase your speeds but it won’t make it faster than whatever you get if you were standing next to the gateway. Does that make sense?

The back of the gateway already has Ethernet so you can plug an Ethernet cable from your computer directly into the port of the gateway. Likewise if they are sending you a power line adapter you will run Ethernet from the gateway to the adapter and plug it into the wall. Hi all, any chance you can comment about setting up the T-Mobile Arcadyan KVD21 with a Google Nest Mesh Wifi System. I currently have two Google mesh networks on my property, Main House and WorkShop. I'm seeking advice on how to best set up the new T-Mobile Gateway with these two network routers. I have a hard line Cat5e running from the Main House to the Workshop. I'm hoping to set up one network to serve the entire property. Any advice would be great!
@helphq
@helphq Год назад
Hi Shayne! I have not yet had a chance to use a nest WiFi mesh system. Can you add them all together to a single network? Are they all the same units.. model, speed, WiFi Technology 802.11AC or AX ..etc? With eero I can add as many units to the mesh as I want. If you have this capability then I would turn off the WiFi on the KVD21 and setup all the mesh systems on the same network at your "Main House" if this is where the modem will be then I would move however many units to the Workshop that you need but use the cat 5e cable from the main house as the backhaul to one of the mesh devices to provide better service to the Workshop. So it would look like this: Modem > Ethernet > Nest unit Nest units in Main house > Wifi backhaul (unless you have ethernet available) to connect to other Nest units in Main House Cat 5e cable from main house > Connected to Nest unit in Main House (preferably the one connected to the KVD21 modem) on one end > On the other end connect to one Nest unit in the Workshop. From here you can connect the rest of them in the workshop via ethernet to one another or just use WiFi backhaul If they are like eero you can set them all up via WiFi in the Main House first then move them where you need too and if you opt to connect them with an ethernet cable that will override the WiFi backhaul. Let me know if this makes sense or is clear as mud. Hope this helps!

I would verify you have the Arcadyan kvd-21 gateway as the Sagemcom fast 5688 gateway looks similar. I would also verify you typed in the admin password and not the Wi-Fi password from the back of the gateway. If you changed the admin password you would need to use whatever you changed it too. Last but not least you could check and see if the config file populated in C:\Users\ whatever user name you are logged into (click that folder) Config.txt might have populated in this folder. If you have an eero 6 or above then I would say it is going to provide you better coverage in your house over the gateways Wi-Fi. I use an eero system and haven’t had any issues. @@helphq I have two networks, Verizon for my house and T Mobile for my office (in same house). I use eero for Verizon and it works great relatively speaking, I get an average 25-35 mps download (highs 50) and 5-7mps upload. T Mobile can get 80-100 some days/times but it too has it’s lows. I am not necessarily seeking broader coverage but a reliable distribution of the signal? I have not heard before about turning eero into bridge mode? I don’t think I did that for Verizon, just turned off Wi-Fi… can you direct me to where I might find good instructions for turning on bridge mode? I’ll google too. THANK YOU!
@helphq
@helphq Год назад
I’d be more concerned with having two separate Wi-Fi networks conflicting with one another if they’re both in the same house. Bridge mode keeps all of the network devices connected to your network to be handled by the gateway instead of the router, but it allows you to use the Wi-Fi capabilities of your mesh system. T-Mobile uses an uncommon maximum transmission unit (MTU) and bridge mode also ensures that the MTU size stays correct because the eero mesh system does not have the capability to change it within the router settings. On top of all of this your adding an extra Network Address Translation (NAT) because the gateway already does this and the router does this too. In simple terms NAT is how packets of data get to where they need to go. When we have two layers of Network Address Translation - one from the gateway and one from the router it’s called a double NAT. Browsing the web will still work perfectly fine in most cases but it can cause strain when trying to conduct a web conference, play games online, or do anything that requires specific ports to be used. All of these functions will probably still work but they could be laggy or have a higher ping. If everything is working properly for you then you don’t necessarily need to put the eero in bridge mode. If you want too in the eero app you click settings > network settings > dhcp and NAT type > change from automatic to bridge. Note if you change it to bridge mode all of your ip addresses will change to the standard T-Mobile 192.168.12.xxx because the gateway will revert to handling your DHCP which is how it addresses are assigned to devices. This means that if you have network attached storage or a Wi-Fi printer or anything of the sort you will need to most likely re-set them up in order for your computers to see them. I hope this helps!

@helphq
@helphq 2 года назад
The T-Mobile modem/gateway is Wi-Fi 6 with 4x4 MIMO. If the router you’re using is older then you would need to get an equivalent router to that of the modem or a newer one (Wi-Fi 6e). The only other thing is if you didn’t turn off the Wi-Fi on the modem then the router and modem might be interfering with one another causing you to get bad speeds.

Why can't I have both the Arcadyan KVD21 and my Router?
@helphq
@helphq Год назад
You technically can but they are going to be fighting each other. You could in theory try to setup your router on different channels than what your gateway is broadcasting on and hope there’s no interference but I personally wouldn’t do that. Depending on how you have your router setup (bridge mode or not) you’d also be assigning devices to two separate LANs with separate IP addresses. The gateway uses 192.168.12.xx and your router will most likely use something different. Meaning if you want to talk to a device connected to the gateway from a device connected to the router it won’t “just work” because they can’t see each other.

No, disabling the WiFi doesn’t have anything to do with a double NAT. You want to disable the WiFi so that the third party router and the gateway are not fighting for bandwidth within the same channel or bleeding over one another.

I swear I responded to this already but it seems it’s not posted so apologies for the delay. All you have to do is connect to the T-Mobile home internet gateway’s Wi-Fi connection. Whatever you set it up as when you went through the T-Mobile home internet app and set it up. From there you can download the file and run the powershell script like normal in the video. Just be aware that as you turn off the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios your computer will lose connection to the internet. You would then need to use Ethernet to regain an internet connection or add a third party router.

The powershell script will take you back to the main menu even if it didn’t work. This method is only for the Arcadyn kvd21. There is another gateway that looks almost identical. Then verify Wi-Fi is turned off on the PC and that it can access the internet via Ethernet. Make sure you are typing in the admin password from the back of the router not the Wi-Fi password. It sounds like it didn’t work. You can test your connectivity to the modem/gateway by selecting option 4 to download the config file to see if it works.
