How To Add ATF Fluid To Sealed Lexus/Toyota Transmission And Fluid Leveling Procedure

My Lexus RCF automatic transmission was acting up. Whine noise, jerk shifting, jerking after going into reverse and drive. It was bad. So I added over a gallon of Amsoil Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid and performed the fluid overflow procedure to get the correct amount. Enjoy!

Dude, all you had to do if you wanted to know if the fluid was low or not was run the engine up to the proper temperature, which is 95f to 110f°, remove the allen key check plug while it’s still running and see if anything comes out. If not install fluid “while it’s still running” until it starts running out that same hole where that allen bolt goes. When it’s only trickling out, put the plug back in and you’re done. If you’re having trans issues it would have been better to remove the pan and check for filings and what’s in the filter. Clean the pan and magnets, clean or replace the filter, reassemble with a new gasket, approx 5.5qts of new approved fluid. Run through all the gears, idle in park up to temp preferably using a scan tool for temp, remove that allen key bolt, wait until it’s only trickling and you’re done.

Thank you for the video & extremely cool that you can get a place with car lift to do the job. I would suggest the following to DIY's: 1. Get yourself a decent code reader...Autel or Foxwell to read live data ATF oil temp. 2. Draining level fluid when the temp is going up rather coming down is the proper way. Also, great choice to go with AMSOIL fuel-efficient ATF fluid, this is a superior choice and probably the reason why your tranny is no longer whining. I know there people here that will say use only Toyota ATF WS, I got 100K, 200K on my car without tranny issue and that may be the case, but AMSOIL has proven to deliver a smoother shift, better fuel economy. I've own 9 Toyota/Lexus different for the past 25+ years, all of them is still running even my 1987 Corolla with 465K miles. Keep the video coming!

you just underfill your tranny. the engine must be running when checking the level. I just accidentally shut the engine off while doing this on my GSF and so much more came out and i had to redo the procedure. also it's way easier and accurate to pin the OBD and go through the gears rather that using the temperature gun. I will post a link on how to do it but I added the link to your previous video.

That was hilarious watching this guy who had no idea what he was doing try to fix his last mistake he made when he underfilled his transmission. I wonder how long he drove it like that because he probably did some damage driving it like that. If he ever needed to replace all his fluids before, now would have been the most important because I'm sure there is a lot more metal shavings in that fluid now that he drove it underfilled. And he just said screw it and tried adding way more fluid than he was supposed to, just wasting all that fluid only for him to drain it right out leaving most of the metal shavings clogging his filter and covering up all three magnets on the bottom of his pan. He never bothered to change any of the seals he just used the old ones again and he decided to say screw torquing any of the bolts he put back in. He needed a scan tool to find out the proper fluid temperature to begin draining the excess fluid and he just used a laser thermometer and checked the temperature of the outside of his transmission pan which isn't the same thing as checking the temperature of the fluid itself. And then he just went TADAAaa And that is how you do things the right way. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL I couldn't imagine anyone would ever take this guy serious. It was total comedy and a lesson on what not to do to be perfectly honest. I'm sure the mechanics in that shop got a good laugh watching this banana work on his car. I'm sure that they will see him again when his transmission blows up on him and he needs them to replace it for him. I can't imagine why he would have still posted this video after what he did. Did he at least watch this video once before posting it? Does he really think that this video shows people the right way to do this job? Because I would be so embarrassed by a video like this that I would have to move far away to some cave to avoid having people laugh at me. And he is totally fine with it. WOW

I want to do the transmission service on my Lexus IS 200t. I don’t have a scan tool to measure temperature. Is it safe to measure how much fluid comes out with a 5 qt measuring container and then refilling exactly how much comes out with new WS fluid?
@thehuangbros
@thehuangbros Год назад
I prefer to fill what came out. I like my other method better but because of my accident on track, I lost an unknown amount of trans fluid. The theory behind this is that if it worked with x amount, then putting back x amount that came out will make it x amount that it was running at. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@markmoosai
@markmoosai Год назад
I did this and the amount was not sufficient when I did the temp check. OBD pin and check temp is easy to do
@michaelangelo5783
@michaelangelo5783 Год назад
The only way that would work is if you let the car sit overnight (or many hours) so the fluid in the Trans was same as ambient in the bottles of new transmission fluid.
@rontan8954
@rontan8954 7 месяцев назад
You can get away with that method, but keep in mind that when ATF reach a certain temp, it expand a bit. For example, if you let fluid out in the cold, it thicken vs when it warmer it much softer, so you let 2 qts thicken vs fill in when it warmer it not going to be exact. My point is, if your let out 2qts of 110 degree fluid and fill in 2qts of 110 degree fluid, then you have no issues.
