Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ru-vid.comUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
Total hack Job didn't vacuum the system. Shouldn't use access valves to charge systems only recovery. Also those will leak over time. Should recover any refrigerant leak check system with nitrogen. Braze or solder in a permanent access port and weigh in correct charge amount.
No ones going to spend $400 on a service call with labor and supplies on a $500 10 year old fridge, if a $15 Amazon hack job gets you another 2+ years on it then so be it.
No refrigerant in the system, where did it leak out at. Before you put refrigerant back into service you need to: 1. Put some dye refrigerant in and find that leak, or use some Co2 and pressurize it and use a gas sniffer to find the leak. You can buy a sniffer cheap at Harbor Freight or on line. 2. Seal the leak. If it's a really small leak or if it up in the box coils, you can use some stop leak and that may do the trick. 3. Pull a vacuum on the system and let it sit for an hour to make sure it has no leaks. You can rent the vacuum pump from an auto parts store, free. You put ~ $180.00 dollar equipment deposit down and you get it back when you bring the pump back. 4. Fill it with at least the recommended amount of refrigerant. Use refridgerant that has oil in it, since you don't know how much oil leaked out. If you don't do those steps you may be back in there in a few days to a year, depending on how bad the leak is. Also clean all the coils, as you mentioned. Other than that good video, clean and helpful. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
@@RogerPack Any of them will usually work if the leak is real slow. My leak was so slow it would take a year for it to make a difference. So it worked the first time I used it. Best Wishes and Blessings. Keith Noneya
How can I tell If the problem with my refrigerator is being low on Freon ? What are the signs that the problem is due to having low or no Freon? My refrigerator works and the compressor sounds normal but it does not cool the refrigerator nor the freezer !!!!
Thank you first for the amazing video. It was very informative but didn't waste my time with a bunch of unnecessary Mumbo jumbo! I wish everyone thought like this!
To be fair, there are lots of other videos for that specific function, but all he had to do was mention it and how to do it. Point taken though. Kind of skipped that whole part, arguably the most important part. I learned already how to do this from refilling car AC.
@@billyjoehodges3743 Once you have the valve tap on the fridge, it's not too difficult. What I do is add just a tiny bit of R134a over several days and watch the operation of the fridge. Fridge/freezers actually use very little refrigerant, so it's very easy to over-fill if you are not careful. (If you see any frost on the compressor's suction line, it's usually overfilled). Aside from the valve, one of the best investments I made was installing a digital thermostat on my 20yo Amana.
Here is a picture of the sticker inside this particular fridge used on the video. With the information for the amount of Freon that it needs and the type. So , meaning that there can be a possibility of your fridge having that information as well, if not then calling the 1800 number on your sticker the support team will be able to provide you that information in case that your owners manuals does not have it. instagram.com/p/BWTOZ8WHSlN
This might be the best no bullshit no filler video i have ever seen great edit to the creator or whoever did this makes me want to attempt fixing my parents fridge thats not cooling 100 percent.
for those commenting about "oh it will leak now blah blah blah ...." - this is meant as an alternative to buying an entire new unit. I have converted mine just like the video & i have to add freon about once a year for $9 bucks, vs a new refrigerator for $1000. ...so slow leak and pay 9 bucks a year or go out and buy a new refrigerator ..... you decide.
A trick a repair man told me he uses is he has a special dye that he adds to the freon. He then later takes a backlight and the dye will show him where the leak is
Just came across this video, I have been teaching myself how to work on old fridges and more lately vending machines. I think this video will be key to helping me when I find cooling issues. Thank you!!
It’s not Freon . Freon is R22, he says it several times showing his inexperience. It’s referred to as refrigerant. That’s what the R stands for in front of R134a or R410 so forth and so on.
Freon is not R22 , Freon is a brand name. I agree he is not using Freon and it was bugging me as well. I have a can of Freon 410a refridgerant next to me , and a can of Arkema R22.
Question for everyone and author...I see you using automotive r134a to recharge. But when I ask google whether it is ok to use automotive r134a on a refrigerator I get the answer back that NO, it should not be used because the materials in there are different and can cause corrosion on copper systems. I'd like to hear what people think about that and whether or not this is a real concern/problem.
How do I identify the suction line? I saw a line coming out of the compressor with a port at the end. Another line connects to some kind of filter before it runs off to elsewhere. They both are quite warm to the touch, one is somewhat warmer than the other.
Why did your trained professional invert the R134a can when charging via the low pressure port? That will cause liquid to enter. My understanding is that charging via a port on the low pressure side near the compressor must be by vapor only to avoid slugging the compressor. Is that right?
You are correct on this: "charging via a port on the low pressure side near the compressor must be by vapor only". The reason for "professional invert the R134a can when charging via the low pressure port" is this: That indeed will cause liquid to come out of the R134a can. Because the can is at 400 psi while the low pressure side near the compressor is (if done right) near vacuum, the change in pressure will cause the R134a to turn (instantly) from liquid to vapor.
Question: With the bullet piercing tool.. When you pierced the tube, overtime have you ever experienced any leaking? Because through my experience using piercing tools, ive experienced leaking through pipes.
Those piercing valves are for initial access only. You are supposed to put them on the process tube, and remove them when you done, because they always leak. This guy is just creating more problems. There could be a restriction in the system instead of it being low on refrigerant..
Mich Po The word “Freon” is a trademark for refrigerant. Freon is basically the company name for when CFC’s were manufactured and sold back in the day. Freon literally just means a propellant or a CFC. While I agree it sounds better to say 134A he is not incorrect. It’s just a slang word
How much is enough? How much is too much? You left out the most important parts. Duh

Because he dont know!!! Nobody knows if there is no proper procedure done, and this is definitely not proper procedure. Where is missing refrigerant is qestion number one! Nobody asked that in this video! Could be normal leak rate (everything leaks), or it could be real leak (more than accerptable leak rate by type of equipment which is in this case less than few grams a year). In appliance factory, they determine proper charge by experimintenig with various operating conditions (since there is no active elements to adapt to various operating conditions like in TXV valve systems) and that charge is most suitable for that set of possible operating conditions. The only proper way is to recover refrigerant from fridge, measure its weight, determine loss of refrigerant and judging by that, proceed with either finding leak or fixing refrigerant flow blockage ( which is more likley with R134a hermeticaly sealed systems than a leak) , or if leak rate is acceprtable for that type of device, charge it to original weight using charge cylinder by nameplate data. Every other path to fix this is hack job.
@@dstiburon03 You know not of what you write. Mine is a hybrid system where the evaporator and compressor are not normally united. As I found out when I contacted the manufacturer. The chandlery though was more than happy to sell me these mismatched assemblies because they just wanted to sell things. Thanks anyway for your 2 cents worth. All it was worth.
I build the Vent in the wrong pipe... on the WaRm pipe ... the messurement was very far in the Red danger Zone... what now ? ... when Machine was turned off, than everythings looks good. But when i turned the machine on, than i reach the middl of the red District... :(
Great video. Thank you for sharing my Friend. Hello Friend, Here is a new friend, giving you all love and support. Let’s always stay connected because together we can make it. I wish you always success in your life. 💖🤝🔔👍😀
Is it possible that the fridge just needs freon vs a new compressor? It's difficult to know being though I'm not a mechanic only the person tired of being taken advantage of by those people holding the large repair price tags. *$1,800* to fix my 2016 fridge. Quoted Only. Folks don't care about your situation ♿️ ⚱️, only theirs 🏠👶🏽🧔🏽♂️👩🏽🛻. Gratitude for your time.
Brother!! Easy and clear instructions. The music was a nice touch. Even knew when to lower the music levels when you're talking so we can hear you. A lot of content providers put music in the video but don't lower it and sometimes you can't even hear them
Here's a real dinger for ya.. I thought my compressor was getting weak, frost was on my frozen stuff and the fridge was around 40F, ran all the time, so I got the kit. I was ready to recharge it tomorrow...then I found what I think IS the problem. The flapper on the ice dispenser was OPEN... I was looking for a seal leak around the door and when i got to that area i could feel a slight cool draft. Looking up, the flap wasn't entirely closed. I opened the door, a bit of frost was on the inside of the chute. I removed the tray and not running the ice maker... I made a styrofoam block fit down the chute and wedged the flap perma-closed.. Hopefully, SOLVED!
can i yourefrigerant sold as car use? R134a refrigerant is banned in EU. But there is R134a freons for car AC. Will it work for household refrigerator?
I just ordered this valve on Amazon for $10. I got a freezer for free since it does not completely cool. Hopefully in a few days I will have a working $10 freezer. Thank you.
Does anyone know why my pressure gauge is reading 70 psi when I open up the piercing valve to get an initial read (with the compressor running). Definitely not showing up as negative pressure. I’m 99% positive I’m installed on the suction line.
This video shows how not to fill the refrigerant. The empty hose must be first cleared from air and a special precaution of keeping the hose filled by refrigerant when connecting and opening the valve. No check of vacuum or pressure is made... No details how to prevent underfill or overfill... How to know the required amount of refrigerant and how much was actually transferred.
My refrigerator is not cooling well, My freezer is warmer than it should be. Everything is clear of dust. I can not find the defrost timer on mine. IDK if that is the problem, but it seems to be the least expensive fix, so I wanted to start w/ that. Any ideas as to what my problem is? No ice being made either. I dont know if this has anything to do w/ it or not, but while i was on vacation, my daughter accidentally flipped the breaker to it, and all the food went bad and sat in there for 2 weeks. We cleaned everything, it was working fine afterwards, now going on about a month. Could that have anything to do w/ my issue?
first , what i would do is locate the defrost timer, you can call the 1800 number usually inside of the fridge so they can refer you to the correct location according to your specific model number. then ,check if any of the ventilation holes are clogged, if the fan is working, verify that there is no frost, if the compressor is working and the thermostat.
also check the condenser coils at the back of the fridge (the one that get warm )for dust it can build up so much it will stop any air cooling the coils
He failed to state the importance of cleaning the tubing before attaching the valve. It should be cleaned with 200 grit or finer sandpaper. This, I understand, helps prevent leakage.
Well that’s a critical charged system and yours was out of Freon so you have moisture in your system which will cause damage to compressor also the bullet valve is not meant to stay on. Also it could be a restriction in the system and show low charge but you wouldn’t know unless you looked for it or knew what your doing so this video is not worth it in the long run get a warranty when you buy it and or call your local appliance repair man what’s 200 bucks for repair or buy a new fridge
My refrigerator is not cooling the Barton only the top and makes ice on the wall tech had come and all they do is clean the ice. Both same one even change the Cumputer in the bottom part. And the problem came cake a few days later. What cañí do my self to sol ve the problem the unit is only 5 years old. Any help will be great
Where did u get the adapter piece from i cant find it at home depot, lowes or amazon?!?! I hooked my bullet valve up then realized i didnt have a connector
I have a new freezer and Compressor was found defective and replaced and Freon added that freezer froze to Zero again. Fast forward Refrigerator went on vacation a year later and temp rose to 25 in freezer and nothing blocking vents, no dust build up, all was the same. Did my computerized fridge quit again or does it have anything to do with circuits. Note: I did many tests unplugging for 3 minutes, lowering freezer to 6 below zero and freezer acted the same. Thanks 4 support.
I actually work on fridges for a living. The bullet valves leak.. Always.. If you are missing refrigerant in a sealed system, it means you have a leak. Adding refrigerant, does not fix the leak.
What if you found the leak and fixed it? What kind of refrigerant do I use? I have r-134 will that work? I’m trying to fix a smaller refrigerator in my semi that I accidentally pierced the walls and put a pinhole in the line. I repaired it with quicksteel putty. It is good for up to 6000 psi will that be strong enough to keep the refrigerant contained?
He has no idea what he’s doing. That’s why he has that much pressure on the low side. Also the compressor valves could be bad. He probably didn’t check for that once he put on the gauges.
Dude, you’re awesome. I like your initial checklist that narrows things down, and the clear step by step. Found and patched a small leak first, got r134a and adapter at auto shop, fixed same day! Thank you!!!
Those are test pressure ratings. Nothing to do with how much freon. BTW you can't tell how much freon is in a system by pressure because the pressure will basically be the same regardless of how much is in it unless it's about empty or extremely full. It's a bit of a complicated process.
The truth is, things like refrigerators, vacuum-cleaners and rocks are full of living-cells. These so-called inanimate-objects actually have all sorts of thoughts and feelings. You saved the life of this Refrigerator, it was probably feeling doomed and in despair before you performed life-saving surgery.
I have a refrigerator that the power comes on, the light comes on inside but the compressor does not engage doesn't even make a sound, what would you say that would be?
The EPA and any EPA certified individual will tell you that these valves are not made to be put in place to add a charge and left on, in fact the part 1 EPA 608 certification covers that these should NOT be kept on as they will leak. The proper way to use these valves is to add one, recover the refrigerant in the system, and then braise on proper service fittings making it a type 2 appliance which then can only be serviced by that certification individual.
The proper way is to put the piercing valve on the process tube and then pinch it off before the valve and braze the end shut when you are done. These units hold so little refrigerant, and should be left a sealed system. I guess if you don’t fix the leak, it really dose t matter.
excellent video. I was able to save $300 from what I was quoted for a charge and now can use my car charger for it. Perfect. Just be really careful and add a little bit at first. Then wait a few hours. Must be really careful not ro overcharge. ;)
+kenjams Nice! Yes. It's just a little that the fridge needs in all. The gauge is always going to go up when charging. The waiting is good as well, bc it gives time to the freon to go around the system.
I have an LG lfxs29766s not getting cold. I have the 134a refill. As the compressor has a threaded valve for refill. But. I only have the automotive refill hose that is wrong fit. What store would carry proper frig refill line with guage.
Hello. I see your video on recharge. Question, did you let the air out only few minutes, or let it sit over night and come back next day to recharge? I'm about to recharge my chest freezer and was told need to use pump to let air out over night
Evacuation or vacuuming is something technicians started doing in the 80's according to my HVACR master of 40 years. they used to let it in one side and out the other as a purge. EPA has banned this practice.
What of finding the LEAK first???? How can the system be charged prior to finding the hole? If not it will just leak out once again, right? Can pressurized air at 50+ psi be used then vacuumed out to remove moisture? Thanks.
Since there was no Freon in your system, how did you make certain that there was no air in there also? Did you put it on a vacuum in order to eliminate the air? If so, what was the micron rating that you wanted? I'm wondering if you vacuumed it to 500 microns or less.
How about you start with signs or symptoms that would indicate the freon level is too low or completely out? If a refrigerator isn't working, there could be other issues besides low freon, so specific symptoms would help to do a process of elimination
SIR good eve.,im here in the philippines in following your video,i have a question how to find leak in the refrigerator ?and what i have to do?thanks sir.
