This is the Diamond in the rough people. SUBSCRIBE to Erin Wright! Erin Wright for PRESIDENT! Erin you are the BEST! Your voice is calm, perfectly timed and steady. You get right to the issue. The fact that you add SUBTITLES - shows me you're on top of your game. Not only for the hearing impaired of course, but they benefit me in case I loose the pace with the audio, I can quickly scan the subtitle. I got lucky on a simple search finding you and I'm LOCKING you in! 🙂 I don't know why programmers make it so complex to add page numbers. In the past I looked at other tutorials they were bad, I got traumatized and was diagnosed with "PageNumberphobia" (okay maybe not that bad). But NO JOKE when I realized I had to go into the RU-vid jungle again to search for a tutorial on adding page numbers I got the anxiety. I was able to add page numbers and remove the number from the first page (as you stated) because it was a cover page. You also were smart to include removing a number from a page. I feel so lucky, that I think I will go out and buy a Lottery ticket (and I never buy lottery tickets), but tonight I'm going to buy 200 of them! Maybe I hit another lottery like I did finding you!

Is this the newest version? My Insert tab looks different when I click Page Number! It shows: > # < on the header & footer tab. Have you run into that problem?

Yes, this is the latest version of Word (Microsoft 365). I just doublechecked, and I'm not seeing any problems with the Page Number button in the Insert tab. You may want to report your issue to Microsoft if the problem persists. Best of luck!

Thank you for watching! I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your page numbers. Although I can't be sure why the page number is only appearing on the first page, you may want to turn on the Show/Hide button (which looks like a paragraph mark) in the Home tab to look for unwanted section breaks. Also, you may want to check to see if you have "Different first page" checked in the Header & Footer tab. Best of luck!

This is a nice video, Thank you. I have a unique question to ask you, something that I have asked others and so far nobody has responded or knows the answer to. When you look at MS Excel, the spreadsheet, you have page tabs for each page on the bottom where you click on the tab to open that page, kind of like adding post it notes to a note book out on the far right side and put comments on that post it note about that section of the notebook. I am trying to find out if you can do the same thing with MS Word, put color tabs out on the far right side or on the bottom of the pages, to separate notes, using MS Word like a virtual notebook with many different categories of notes, with color tabs to click on. I have done notes but each category is a different file so you have to have a lot of files open to do this or stop, look for the file, open it up, type out notes, save then close. It would be so much easier to have tabs open to just click to open, type then save and keep on and on. I have work notebooks going back about 16 years now but the ink is fading, notebooks get damaged and I hate to lose that information. Please let me know if this is possible using MS Word. I know you can do this with Google Sheets to make interactive notebooks that teachers use with their students online but I would like to have something where you don't have to be online to use or depend on google drive. I would like to just open up the file, add notes to different categories and save, then back up on external hard drives so I don't lose the info. Thank you.

Hi, Chris. Thank you for watching my video. I can definitely see the value of the type of tabs you are describing. Unfortunately, I don't think Word offers that type of functionality. However, if you have Adobe Acrobat DC, you could assemble all your Word files into a PDF Portfolio. All the files would then be easily accessible from the Navigation Pane in Acrobat or Reader. thank you for this tutorial. I have a unique editing issue with page numbers. I want to start the page number "1" from the "Prologue" section which is actually page number 17 when the pagination is added from the first page. Is there a way to have page 1 start from the 17th page? Many thanks if you can help me. It's an Amazon KDP manuscript and this is the last stage.

Thank you for watching! Believe it or not, next week's tutorial will show how to start page number on a specific page. The tutorial isn't ready yet, but here are the steps: 1. Select the Home tab in the ribbon. 2. Select the Show/Hide button to show your formatting marks. 3. Select the Layout tab in the ribbon. 4. Place your cursor at the beginning of the page where you want the page numbers to start. 5. Select Breaks in the Page Setup group. 6. Select Next Page from the drop-down menu. The section break should appear at the bottom of the previous page. 7. Double-click in the header or footer area of the page where you want the page numbers to start. Double-clicking opens the Header & Footer tab, which only appears when the headers or footers are selected. 8. Deselect the Link to Previous button to disconnect the headers or footers in the section you just created from the previous section. 9. Select the Page Number button in the Header and Footer group. 10. Select Format Page Numbers from the drop-down menu. 11. Select the "Start at" radio button in the Page Number Format dialog box. 12. Enter the page number you want to start with in the "Start at" text box. 13. Select the OK button. If you had existing page numbers, the section you just created should now start with the numbers you entered into the Page Number Format dialog box. If you didn’t have existing page numbers, continue with the following steps. 14. Select the Page Number button. 15. Select a location to insert the page numbers from the drop-down menu. 16. Select additional location and style options from the submenu. (The options will depend on the selection made in step 15.) Best of luck!
