First step of the build is here! Before building anything else, the first thing to go into the van is sound deadening. So that is what we did.
Armed with 3 boxes of Kilmat, 2 100mil and 1 80 mil, we went to work. Prioritizing the 100 mil sheets on the floor and wheel wells where the majority of the road noise comes in and the 80 mil on the body panels and ceiling.
In addition to putting the standard strips in the floor's ridges, we targeted the center of the floor above the drive shaft with up to 3 layers of the kilmat. Why? Because at highway speeds, there is a horrendous resonance from the drive shaft. Adding it heavy above the driveshaft significantly helped reduce this. The other place to go heavy is on the wheel wells. That is another source of road noise that won't get much additional insulation so adding here is important.
Hope you enjoy the video!
