#Harborfreightprojects
The goal was to make the ultimate tool cart. We also add a jack holder to the other side of the cart. This thing is a beast now.

I REALLY like your idea with this to expand the storage capacity of the tool cart. I WILL definitely do this side cabinet mod to mine as well. Thanks! Also, food for thought, in my 22 years as an Air Force heavy equipment mechanic (mobility/deployments) we used to bolt the top and bottom toolboxes together by removing the drawers as needed for access and drill a couple holes and use bolts, fender washers and nuts to tie both together for better stability. You could do same by bolting through the corners and with spacers for empty space on sides on cart, along with casters that everyone has already suggested. Since you keep cart strapped inside trailer, this would prevent the side cabinet from possibly coming off IF you hit big enough bump or pothole then open trailer to find cabinet and tools off all over trailer.

I hung an add on cabinet to both sides of the cart. Built a cradle of sorts outta 1/4 thick angle for under both add ons and mounted the blue hd wheels under each end. Also mounted the folding shelf to the side of the add on. Heavy but works great.
@BringItMuscleCars

Do you move it around. That’s got to be pretty heavy. The side cabinets are heavy. If I could weld I would have built a cradle. I had thought of that.

I did the same thing on a cart I use at work. The thing I had to do was make a base for the cart and side cabinet. When I had everything loaded up and tried to move the whole thing, the side cabinet made it too heavy on that end and almost flipped the thing over. maybe your floor jack will balance it. Great job.

It's too much rolling around a factory. Unless you reinforce it really well the bolts will start to try to pull out of it mainly it seems to be the expansion joints they put in the floor. I've seen it happen on at least 3 of them now. Unless it just sits in one spot I'd suggest skipping adding any big locker or drawers on the end. If you still have to do it, IMHO best thing to do is get some angle iron and build a frame for it to sit on. Then move the casters out to all 4 corners.

Kenneth Burns 👍 and you can use the chock(s) for increased safety when using the jack to get the vehicle up on the jack stands. Parking brake or having transmission in gear works when lifting the front end with rear wheels on the ground, but chocks needed for the front tires (which have no parking brake) when lifting up the rear end.

I’ve done this with my harbor freight box just didn’t put the jack on it lol. But once it’s filled up it gets pretty heavy to push around to add a jack that’s gotta get heavy. And idk about lifting the jack up and down after a few times I’d just leave it off.

Just picked up one of these carts for racing superbikes. My cart will be travel to the race track in a trailer. You mentioned that yours travels in a trailer. How do you strap your cart down in the trailer? I assume you use ratchet straps, but how do you strap it in. With my current cart, I use “D” hooks on the floor and strap the hooks around the square steel tube of the Bluepoint cart frame. The HF cart frame doesn’t seem sturdy enough to handle being hooked and strapped. I was thinking of doing E-track on the trailer wall and strapping around the cart to the wall. Just wondering what solution you came up with. Thanks in advance. JohnV.
@BringItMuscleCars

I have two D rings on the wall I strap it to. It runs across the drawer and I have to slide the strap up and down. I haven’t had a problem with it moving or loosing up.

@@BringItMuscleCars Thank you for the reply. Do you still do that even with the extra add on box that hangs from the right side of the cart side? I guess the bumper guards, placed properly, can serve as a protector from any rash caused by the straps going across the front of the cart. JohnV.
@BringItMuscleCars

@@gecko6952 I still do. The strap did wear some of the paint though. It’s not the best layout overall because it’s a lot harder to load and unload from the trailer.

@@BringItMuscleCars If you were holding it with no tripod or steadycam, what you got was pretty good. I took the phone holder from a selfie stick and attached it to a small tripod. Well, I suppose if it works for you, then it works. Do you know the weight capacity of the casters? I'm thinking that as you fill the add-on cabinet, your total cart might reach their limit. A bigger tool chest is going to be more robust. You could upgrade the casters as an alternative. In any case, monitoring the casters might be a good idea.
@Spectt84
@Spectt84 4 года назад
I like your quest to build the best tool cart, and I understand why you chose to add the "end cabinet"(because you needed more tool storage while maintaining a compact footprint in your trailer)... Although, it may just be better and more cost effective to get a whole additional tool cart instead. Maybe one for SAE and one for METRIC; or one for SOCKETS and one for WRENCHES... Or just spend the $400ish upfront on a suitable sized box and then do your upgrades on that and have plenty "room to grow"... While maybe not practical, it was entertaining to watch and cool to see all the possibilities of what could be possible...

Spectt thanks for watching and the support. I would definitely agree that a box would make more sense for most part. For me I like the cart because I can store the jack stands and some other bigger items on the bottom. The end cabinet isn’t great. It’s narrow so arranging certain tools it tough. We will see how it works out this season. Two carts would work well for me.

This is my first time watching your channel. I'm wondering with the type of work you do, the bada$$ Pony in the back ground that you would even bother with HF. I see you have Kobalt and Husky as well. I'm not judging at all. I think that is genius how you set that up. It obviously wouldn't take a genius to figure that the cabinet will need casters. That's a given, I wonder if the structure of the cart it's self will be able to with stand the weight of all the tools. Sitting in one place would be okay but once it goes into motion, weight shifting, if that maybe cause a big issue? Definitely liked your video!
@BringItMuscleCars
@BringItMuscleCars 4 года назад
dmckimmey1 cheaper tools work nearly as good as really expensive ones. I need to save money on the tools to help mod the Shelby. Only so much to around. Why spend $100 on a tool when a $20 tool works just as well. That’s enough to buy race gas and a hotdog at the track. The cabinet may need wheels. For the most part it’s strapped into the car trailer.

If you make your cart so big it has all your tools then what's the need for a tool chest? I store all my rarely used tools in my cart to have more room in my main box. I leave the top empty to hold tools while I do a job and when the job is done I put them all back in my tool box then move on to the next job.

Retrogamer1010 for me it’s being able to store stuff underneath the box. Have the jackstands and other bigger items there is really nice. I normally have my cart in my trailer.
